Chapter 7 Everyone Fights Over the Prince  “Amazing beauty?” Meijun grew excited. It’s great that the client is beautiful, it’d be so easy to be a pretty princess’ bodyguard... lots of opportunities for things to happen. He stood straighter, slapped his chest, and declared, “trust me! I will protect the princess and make sure she’s 100 percent safe!” The housekeeper looked puzzled. What was the young guy talking about? It’s not even certain who’d win the job yet. He was getting excited too early. Considering he did look very motivated for the work, the housekeeper advised, “it’s not that hard to protect the princess. It’s just the princess is very playful, and you have be careful.”  “Playful?” Junzhi looked stunned and then laughed. “No worries, I’m playful too!” They’d be a good couple, both being fun-loving.  “That’s fine.” The housekeeper sighed, while still feeling off about the whole conversation. He was experienced, however, after a pause, he said, ”young man, you know our princess is five-years-old right?” His words stopped Junzhi cold, “what?... isn’t the princess 18-years-old?” The housekeeper was chagrined, so the young man did covet the princess’s beauty. “Of course not, she just celebrated her five-year-old birthday.” Finally Junzhi understood. The so-called “amazing beauty” and “playful” Princess Butterfly was actually a little girl. His hopes dashed, Junzhi pondered going back home to the clan. But his classmate, Languo, had already gone inside the palace. They had just left the Happy Life clan, they couldn’t just go back looking like losers. But it’d be so pathetic to follow behind a five-year-old all-day; he didn’t want to work for a child! After some thinking, Junzhi had more questions.  “Sir, are there a lot of people interviewing to be the prince’s bodyguard?”  “Yes, at least thirty or forty, mostly young, unmarried women.”  “What about for the princess’ bodyguard?”  “Quite a few, three or four people.”  “What?” How could a few people compare to thirty or forty? Does the housekeeper even know how to count?  “It’s just...” The older man looked a little embarrassed. “The princess is very playful...”  “Well, we’ll meet again!” Before the housekeeper’s stopped talking, Junzhi bowed and took off. He ran so fast that he was gone in a flash. The housekeeper looked at the dust Junzhi kicked up in his haste to leave, “aye, another one gone...”   ****************** Junzhi may have left, but Languo was still fighting. She was led to the central hall, where a big group of people was waiting to be interviewed for the job as the prince’s bodyguard. She has never realized she was so short and so small; the other female candidates were all taller. Did they grow up on horse milk? Languo was so buried among the group that when the interviewer was counting the number of people, she was overlooked. She was forced to stand on tiptoes and announce herself, “hey, I’m here too, I’m here too! I’m Bai Languo from the Happy Life clan!”
