Our differences are irreconcilable!
"Having lived this long, I've finally realized that words can carry warmth..."
Xiao Bai shook his head vigorously and deleted the email without hesitation.
Apart from advertisements, his mailbox contained only a few automated replies like "Thank you for your submission" and "We've received your report and are investigating." He deleted them all.
All the anonymous letters Xiao Bai had previously sent had gone unanswered. Whether through official channels or self-proclaimed "whistleblowers" and "truth-tellers" on social media, not a single person had acknowledged his messages.
The only normal reply he'd received was a "death warrant"...
"The worst-case scenario has come true. The murderer is actually working with the Great Demon Lord of Discharge, and they've already targeted me!"
"It seems the Funeral Rangers aren't as 'low-key' as the news makes them out to be. They've actually built a massive network of influence. That makes sense; with such terrifying power, it would be stranger if they didn't have influence."
As Xiao Bai spoke, he quickly searched online for his parents' workplaces and his home address, but found nothing unusual in the news or public announcements.
"Good. They probably don't know my identity, and they wouldn't expect any survivors. They must think I'm a real witness..."
"Phew... I'm glad I've been treading on thin ice all my life, encrypting my messages, avoiding implicating my parents, and never telling Professor Wang about this. Otherwise, not only would I have endangered him, but I'd also have lost the Raven account for sure."
"Damn you, Funeral Rangers! I'll never rest until I destroy you all!"
Xiao Bai cursed bitterly, clenching his fist with such force that it emitted a grating metallic sound.
Even the Little Milk Cat in the cockpit jumped in fright, dropping its toy and cautiously peering around.
Xiao Bai extended his mechanical arm and stroked the cat's head, signaling that he was alright.
He then logged into the 'Tavern' and tried searching the 'Bounty Board'.
The board existed, but neither the Thunder Emperor nor Fanxing were listed. The top bounty was a mere 1 million Universal Currency for a member of the Children of the Abyss, accused of an attempted poisoning.
"This board is a joke! They're too afraid to list the truly dangerous ones to avoid causing panic."
"Heh... what's the point in thinking about this?"
Xiao Bai chuckled bitterly, then continued sifting through the junk as if nothing had happened.
What good did sighing and blaming fate do? Would it bring back the murdered killer?
The only thing to do was to become stronger, stronger, endlessly stronger!
Strong enough to send them all to the Second Dimension with a single slap!
Time flew by like an arrow, and before Xiao Bai knew it, two weeks had passed—marking a full month since he'd been thrown into the graveyard.
"Phew~ Finally collected everything. I really admire my own diligence and hard work."
"Hate and fear are truly the strongest catalysts," Xiao Bai mused, gazing at the 'empty' graveyard with a soul-deep sigh.
Though the mountain of junk remained as tall as ever, every useful resource had been thoroughly scavenged, not a single part left behind.
He glanced at the updated performance data:
Model : Unnamed Mecha
Power : 500
Defense : 300
Processing Power : 200 (2000)
Energy : 10000/10000 (100)
Equipped : Terror Turtle Power Engine, Celestial Feather-class Medium-Sized Mecha Structure, Medium Reactor, Level 6 Energy Storage Battery x2, Other
Estimated Combat Power : Tier 2
The impr ovements weren't particularly dramatic. Partly because some resources had been used to repair other Autonomous Mecha, and partly because the junkyard only held so much. The "small-fry" outside the "tutorial zone" had already run out of experience to offer.
The additional "Estimated Combat Power" value was obtained from a combat power calculator downloaded from the Tavern. After collecting a series of data and performing formula calculations, it provided a simple assessment of a mecha's paper combat power.
It was purely theoretical, ignoring factors like combat experience and battlefield environment, and assuming the opponent was a stationary target. Its reference value was limited, mainly serving as a bit of fun.
Improving it was simple. Xiao Bai was currently in his energy-efficient, lightweight form. Switching to his full-armor form would instantly boost his rank to 5th-tier.
As for the base attributes, the Terror Turtle engine, which affected "Power," was becoming increasingly demanding. The local resources were no longer sufficient to sustain it; it needed a change in fuel source.
The "Defense" attribute, however, had seen significant improvement, thanks to acquiring two new pieces of equipment:
Type 3 'Deflection' Electromagnetic Shield : A protective energy shield c rafted by Black Fortress Fine Engineering using Paradise Technology. It uses magnetic confinement principles to deflect most solid projectile weapons and low-power energy weapons, but performs poorly against liquid-based weapons and close-quarters attacks.
The fine print below cautioned:
"The military rejected it due to excessive energy consumption? Don't you have reactors?"
This device was assembled by Xiao Bai using components scavenged from the Mecha Graveyard . When activated, incoming bullets and shells would be automatically deflected, making it seem as if the enemy had suddenly missed their target.
However, it lacked the flashy visual effects of science fiction movies. Instead, occasional sparks of electricity would flicker in the surrounding air, and the Little Milk Cat would remain perpetually bristling like a hedgehog.
The energy consumption was indeed outrageous. Even at full power—the state providing maximum defense—Xiao Bai's medium reactor struggled to sustain the shield for more than three seconds before it had to shut down to prevent overload.
Even at minimum power, the energy levels would plummet from a normal "100" to a mere "20"—a voracious appetite that explained why the device couldn't be sold.
Later, after some thought, Xiao Bai used the Wish List to obtain several automatic control programs. Through Professor Wang's recommendation, he spent some Contributions at the Tavern to hire a Big Shot who helped integrate these programs into a comprehensive automatic defense system.
After being integrated into the Main Control System, the electromagnetic shield only activate s when an attack reaches a certain proximity. It can automatically adjust its power based on the intensity of the attack and shuts off when the mecha fires to avoid interfering with its own projectiles, preventing them from "racing" with the enemy's shots.
With these energy-saving optimizations, the system becomes quite useful. Combined with the Comprehensive Autonomous Combat Module's automatic evasion function, even Xiao Bai, a newbie with no battlefield experience, can effectively protect himself.
As for close-range attacks and liquid weapons, a second piece of equipment complements these defenses:
Self-Healing Bio-Armor Module: Developed by the Future Evolution Society using Paradise Techno logy, this chitin-controlled organ was cultivated in high-intensity radiation environments. It covers the mecha's surface with a dense layer of hardened chitin, capable of automatic repair and boasting exceptional physical defense and corrosion resistance.
The small text below seemed somewhat familiar:
"Are you all blind? That's just a child! There's no way he could be D-Class Personnel!"
