Chapter 330 Leo's Emerald Calamity
Laying her head on Leo's lap pillow, Yeon got herself comfy as soon as they climbed into the carriage. Since the carriage was just as big as the one they used the last time, she had more than enough space to do what she liked with two-less passengers!
Although the situation might have appeared out of place from the perspective of an outsider, Sohee and Yong didn't seem to be particularly bothered by it. Yet…
Neighhhh!
The one who was experiencing this fantasy-like situation could only care about the bow that he was holding!
'This thing, it's still carried by the materials isn't it?'
Unlike Mountain Splitter which showed how much of a skill the Iron Chief had as a metal expert, the Azure bow that Leo held was purely made out of two primary materials. There were some small additions that formed the whole thing into shape, but it was obvious where the emphasis was.
While the carriage still wasn't big enough for him to freely try out a mid-sized great bow, Leo could feel the great elasticity of the bowstring, just what one would expect from the tendon of an otherworldly dragon!
Compared to normal bows that would usually have a set pull strength, dragging the string back could be done with almost no strength. It was only when Leo applied more force that things got interesting!
The bowstring instantly hardened, demanding more strength from him! The more he went tough on it, the stronger the required pull strength got. Rather than having a minimum and upper pull strength, the bow in Leo's hand had an open range of weights, anyone could wield it, but it would only show its true strength in the hand of a deserving owner!
'That prankster is no joke either…'
On the other hand, the handle was made of nothing other than wood. However, it stood strong as Leo exerted most of his strength on the bowstring, even when he didn't hold the force of his other arm. Despite melting easily under the First Calamity's poison, the Azure Tree's wood was no joke!
This creation was only possible thanks to the loot obtained after the First Calamity's descent, but they had quickly fallen in Leo's hand. Although they swiftly left with fashion after intimidating everyone, the other Heavenly Strength Society members made sure to come and collect a good part of the spoils under the supervision of one of the four pillars.
The Society was the undisputed king of the flat plains, and Leo was one of the Scarlet Sky Warriors of that hegemon. Just by exchanging some credits as well as a part of his resource quota, Leo was easily able to obtain these perfect bow materials!
Going along that vein of thought, Leo could have even asked the Society's smiths to make his weapons for a far cheaper price. However, the image he preserved as a logical member couldn't be destroyed just to save something that he had a lot of.
Bringing back some questionable weapons was okay, but trying to forge more varying weapons was no different than announcing that he was splitting his focus against convention…
'It can only be revealed in a true display of versatility.'
Naturally, Leo wasn't planning to hide his diverse fighting style, but stirring up talks about him did him more harm than good. Instead, he made everything in preparation to show that he could equally handle more and more, and the opportunity to do so wasn't very far off!
'Named after your birthplace. You shall be known as the Emerald Calamity!'
Not giving it much thought this time either, Leo just went with the first name that came to mind. Though he did hope that this bow would truly become a sign of Calamity for his enemies.
In the strength-oriented murim where everyone preferred to exchange swords and fists, the bow wasn't a very popular weapon. However, its potential wasn't anything but top-notch. After all, the cumbersome need for arrows could be ignored once someone achieved a certain level!
Beyond transcendence, Martial Artists could eject Internal Energy. Building upon the ability to form Sword Qi, energy blades and the likes could be sent out from one's body. The Internal Energy Cost was insane, but Qi Arrows were the most cost-effective objects that could be conjured thanks to their small volume!
'Well, let's hope it all goes well in the end…'
Finishing his last weapon checkup, Leo caressed Yeon's hair as he lost himself in thought. He had done everything he could, but that was exactly why he was worried. The next event could be argumentatively considered the safest one for them, making the chance for it to turn into a monstrosity a moderate possibility…
Not everything always worked just like how only 7 tasks out of the 10 he retracted counted for his chain unique event. From another perspective, however, wasn't the result of obtaining double the Reading Points at this point already worth celebrating?
In addition, his fighting style could be said to have wholly evolved to fit all of his needs. He had even practiced the throwing skill that almost let him down back at the Sword Continent, pushing it beyond the Prologue level!
If he was judging himself from a reader's point of view, Leo was sure he wouldn't give himself full marks as there were many more things that could be done, but that was just how reality was. No matter how smart or knowledgeable a human was, they could never compare to a computer machine that simply executed the tasks provided, nor a spectator that underestimated everything from the high pedestal of their imagination…
'I even lost the chance to get that item from the Northern Island by messing up the timing…'
Understanding the reality of being faced with the situation itself, Leo didn't beat himself up about everything. However, going ahead of time had made him miss another Internal Energy Restoration item of Geochin that he would have stumbled upon there.
It was another essential item to take back to Earth, but repeating the long trip wasn't feasible, so Leo couldn't help regretting the opportunity that he missed. In the end, he could only focus on the bright side and hope for a chance to make up for it as the warm sunlight consoled his weary mind…
