Chapter 732: Chapter 261: Harvest
“I hope everything is as you say, Aphrodite, and remember to prepare your Divine Descending form.
“I will prepare mine as well, this time, only success is allowed, no failure.”
“I also hope that what you've prepared is truly as useful as you say. As for my affairs, you need not worry.”
Calmly speaking, Aphrodite touched her belt.
“It will be useful, there will be no second possibility.”
“Strike with precision–Athena will never have the chance to intervene, as that's ultimately not her territory. Once we succeed, let the kingdoms of the mortal realm form an alliance.”
“Athens has their magic and alchemy,” Hera let out a cold laugh and gripped the armrest of her Golden Throne, “but that is no match for All Gods!”
“Metis, Prometheus, Athena… these so-called wise gods have always been so arrogant, but history will teach them a lesson.”
“…Ah, yes, a lesson.”
Without expressing agreement or disagreement, Aphrodite smiled, “But Hera, you still hold a grudge over the existence of Metis.”
“Do you need me to lend you my belt? Honestly, rather than obsess over someone who might have vanished, why not take actual action to make the Divine King revolve around you, rather than running to the mortal realm every day for amorous pursuits–oh, almost forgot.”
“Respected Divine King His Majesty, he's now not just pursuing women–”
–Boom!
A low rumble echoed within the Divine Palace. When the dust settled, the Goddess of Beauty had already vanished, leaving only Hera in the great hall.
Panting heavily, this is why she and Aphrodite had never gotten along.
It's not just because the freedom of love and beauty inherently conflicts with the constraints of marriage, nor is it solely due to Aphrodite's provocative words. In truth, perhaps deep down, Hera has always been somewhat envious.
She envied Metis, envied her wisdom and her powerful daughter. Even though Zeus swallowed her, it actually was because he feared her children's threat to his throne.
She was envious of Hestia, envied her eldest sister's independence and strength, depending on no male god. If the Goddess of Law hadn't left Olympus, indeed Themis would have been in her range of envy as well.
However, compared to the former, these two goddesses with either gentle magnanimity or just stern natures made her jealousy fade, leaving behind more admiration in her heart.
But Aphrodite… a passionate nature, infatuated with her husband. Her son is infatuated with her, yet she could never restrain her own husband.
Even though Hera tried to convince herself to accept all this, she ultimately couldn't.
“The Divine King is always arrogant. The ancient Celestial Gods considered all gods their slaves, never thinking they would dare to resist; Cronus stood on Mount Othrys believing his strength could help him defeat Destiny, but the result was futile.”
“Zeus, would you also have such a day? If it truly happens, what would my fate be, like Mother Earth, like the Mother Goddess, or… have my own ending?”
In the Divine King and the Heavenly Empress, perhaps due to some mysterious influence, they always displayed either virtues or flaws of both genders.
Yet even Hera herself could not distinguish whether her jealousy stemmed from her position as Heavenly Empress or her nature.
“If Zeus remains the Divine King, then let us continue to torment each other.”
Spring sorrow and autumn melancholy were only temporary, and Hera quickly regained her spirits.
She needed to first focus on completing her tasks, as for the future?
Every tale of Zeus's amorous adventures invariably involved her. Even though she always played the role of the spiteful jealous wife, she didn't care.
It was such in the past and will be so in the future. Let those innocent, suffering mortals hate her… she would bear it all.
In the blink of an eye, years passed in the mortal realm.
In the distant Alien Realm, time might have passed not too long ago. But in the Chaos World, more than a year had already gone by.
This resulted from Egypt's downfall, a quite normal occurrence.
After all, even in the present world of Chaos, there had been temporal disruptions due to Typhon's chaos; hence it's no wonder similar events happened in Egypt's mortal realm.
So standing on a high cliff of the Acropolis of Athens, when Laine returned once more to this final guard before the City of Athens, it was already vastly different from his previous visit.
More and more elite guards, materials accumulated in warehouses. And though it appeared unchanged, just a slight sense would reveal the magical array patterns gradually forming beneath the earth.
They would form a massive rune barrier, covering the entire city, ultimately providing a defensive effect similar to Silver Moon City's Maze Lock–the only difference being, the latter could operate around the clock without pause, as the omnipresent Magic Net supplied its power, and defense was merely one of its functionalities. However, the former was purely a temporary shield, and no one knew how long it could last.
Regardless, everything before him proved that Athens was well aware of the precarious situation and had begun covert preparations for war.
Of course, their preparations theoretically had little to do with Laine, though he was here for another reason.
However, the temporary union of consciousness caused by concluding the Alien Realm forced Laine to stay here for a moment, contemplating the various impacts Hemenu's end might have on him.
