Chapter 636: Chapter 213: Double Kings
While tension fermented within the palace on the ocean, beneath the earth, within the Underworld,
Pale purple moonlight illuminated the gray soil; nothing from the Mortal Realm could affect this place.
Almost at the very moment when Hera wielded Thunder against the Sheepskin Shield, a Silver Serpent flashed across the gates of the Underworld.
Eternal Night and Darkness shrouded the sides while the River of Sorrow surged with waves.
Due to the unique spatial rules of the Underworld, no matter where one descended from the earth, they would land at the same entrance. Thus, Hades had built a portal to separate the Mortal Realm from the Underworld.
At this moment, no living creatures were present before the towering gate, only a human man with pale skin, clad in black armor, stood leaning on a sword. Beside him, souls rose and fell with the flow of the Styx River.
Of course, saying he was human was merely based on appearance.
Zeus could only be sure he was not a deity, but whether he was human or not was a matter of much doubt.
“Aegis…”
Emerging from the electric light after many years, the Divine King once again stepped foot in this land deemed barbaric by all gods.
Yet, for some unknown reason, Zeus felt as if something had changed here, but after sensing it, he found no result.
Slightly shaking his head, he put aside such illusions. Perhaps this was the influence left by the past response to the erosion of Outer Gods… The real reason Zeus stopped was not this illusion but the clash between thunder and the Sheepskin Shield far over the ocean.
Falling from the sky for nine days and nights, one could reach the earth; from the earth, one could fall for nine days and nights to reach the Netherworld. But this vast distance was not far for the Zeus of today; standing here, he could still feel his Divine Artifact.
Hera had used it, then it was easily blocked by the Shield of Aegis.
Although it was the Thunder he had deliberately left behind, knowing it could do nothing to Athena, still, when this Divine Artifact, once regarded as a treasure, appeared so powerless, Zeus felt somewhat uncomfortable.
His subtle dread toward Athena stemmed from this; it was not formed overnight but developed over thousands of years as she silently demonstrated her capabilities time and time again.
Thankfully she was a goddess… thinking no more of it, Zeus felt he should adjust his mindset.
Looking at Erebus, he had never been so concerned. Although this was related to the fact that the power of Primordial Gods was not as easily replaced as the position of the Divine King, Zeus still felt he needed to learn from it.
“Halt, who goes there!”
Thoughts flashed through his mind, but outside only a moment passed.
When Zeus's figure appeared before the gates of the Underworld, a loud shout immediately resounded along the banks of the Styx River.
The man holding the heavy sword raised his head, his eyes beneath the visor sharp and clear. A deep and cold aura emanated from him, filling the gray plains.
As the object of inquiry, Zeus was surprised to discover that this entity, seemingly not a living being, actually possessed quasi-divine power, and was by no means weak even among the True Gods.
[Zagreus, the Gatekeeper Hades found from somewhere]
[Possessing an immortal body stronger than ordinary divine bodies, yet not a demigod… I once thought it was just a rumor]
Slightly moving his lips, Zeus recalled the figure.
Zephyrus had mentioned it to him, but after all, as the Underworld King, Hades was indeed quite fitting since he always enjoyed dealing with the dead… Smiling faintly, Zeus did not hide his identity.
“I am the Divine King of Olympus, also the King of the Sky, Ocean, and Earth. Step aside, I intend to enter the Underworld, which is my rightful privilege.”
Silent, the man named Zagreus gazed at Zeus without any respect, then wordlessly stepped aside.
The plate of the armor clashed with each other, producing a crisp metallic ringing.
Despite being somewhat displeased with Zagreus's attitude, considering he was a subject of Hades, Zeus refrained from saying anything.
Soon, the reason he had agreed with Erebus to stir up the dispute over the Golden Apple was none other than to change this status quo?
It wouldn't be long before this would change… without paying more attention to this unwise fellow, Zeus easily crossed the River of Sorrow past Zagreus's guarded place, then roughly discerned the direction.
Previously, he had chased that aura all the way, across the sea and strata. But upon reaching the Underworld, he suddenly lost the trail.
As if it melted into the Underworld itself, the aura vanished without a trace, but Zeus quickly understood why.
The Underworld's birth stemmed initially from the intertwining of the four Primordial Gods' domains; theoretically, the power of all four Primordial Deities could achieve this.
However, Erebus had just reached an agreement with him, Nyx was suspect, but not much; if the search proved fruitless, he could try to confirm, attempt to visit this most low-key Primordial God.
As for the rest, Gaia was also a possibility, since she was still an Earth God… so unsurprisingly, this should be related to Tartarus.
Hmm, quite a logical deduction. Moreover, if an unseen deity didn't exist in the current world, it was likely to hail from the chaotic Abyss.
The conclusion was reached, but Zeus found it even more troublesome.
Tartarus, a place beyond the current world. There, his power of the God-King was destined to suffer tremendous oppression and weakening.
