Chapter 635: Chapter 212 Three Parts_2
But now, Zeus was no longer here. No one could use force to subdue Poseidon anymore.
What's more, the Storm Lord, who shook the earth, could not tolerate any potential betrayal from the ancient sea gods. This was the foundation of his dominion over the sea. So, Poseidon, self-proclaimed Sea Emperor, raised his trident, pointing it at Artemis and Keto, who were shielded by the Aegis.
“Keto, get out here–and you, my dear niece, you won Athens from me and let that despicable mortal run rampant on the sea. I've long wanted to test your skills, come on, this ridiculous shield cannot stop me!”
In the blink of an eye, Pontus's former palace had nearly turned into a battlefield. The attitudes of Poseidon and Hera were unmistakable.
And witnessing this scene, further away, Phoebe, once a hand's breadth away from the Golden Apple, looked on with flickering eyes.
With the situation developing to this point, it was nearly impossible for her to contend for the Golden Apple anymore. But that arrow of Artemis just now stirred something within her heart.
As the Goddess of Luminous, Phoebe had always had a path leading directly above the True God. Just like the vast sea, if she could conquer the sun, moon, and star cluster, becoming the true supreme of luminous, it would be a role more fitting than 'the most beautiful goddess'.
Previously, this was nothing but a delusion, just the sun alone was an insurmountable obstacle.
But now, Apollo was her grandson, and their relationship was quite good. As for the moon… she looked at the New Moon Crown, and Phoebe felt a struggle within herself.
Not only Phoebe, but many gods present were also in a state of indecision and hesitation, which altered the situation.
When Poseidon's voice dropped, Artemis drew her bow once again, and farther away, Aphrodite covered her face, glaring furiously at Keto.
Seeing this, Ares was overjoyed. This time, he no longer hesitated between his wife and the Mother Goddess. Especially since the enemy was the detested Athena, he happily drew out the bronze sword and stood with Poseidon.
However, to his approach, Poseidon cast a disdainful glance and secretly distanced himself.
He was rather reckless, but that was just an inability to control his emotions. Most of the time, he still knew the consequences, but Ares was different.
He probably did not intend to anger the two goddesses… yet seeing him so happy, Poseidon himself wanted to give him a beating.
As the God of War moved, the situation in the great hall gradually became clear. The many gods seemed to have divided into three groups, two opposing, one neutral.
Apollo and Leto stayed aside. Although the sun god himself leaned slightly towards Athena, he remained by the Mother Goddess's side. Zephyrus remained loyal to Zeus, and the other three wind gods surrounded him, utterly unwilling to get involved. The Goddess of Life, Moanda, chose to watch from the sidelines, while the Goddess of Agriculture wavered. She detested Poseidon but also disliked mortal Athens, so she stood with Hestia and likewise withdrew from the contention.
Near the main position of the temple, Nereus contemplated the situation, but his brother, the sea's wrath, Phorcys, made his choice first, decisively siding with Keto.
Like Keto once was, he had an appearance that was out of place among the gods, being called 'Father of Monsters' by the mortals.
So he hardly cared what Nereus thought, and before Pontus's eldest son could reprimand his brother for making decisions on his own, the sea's miracle Thaumas made his own choice again.
He came to Hera's side, willing to fight for her because his daughter, Rainbow Goddess Iris, was once the messenger during the Titan War of Zeus, later becoming Hera's envoy.
For a moment, the gods were splitting into groups, and the vast Divine Court felt divided into several parts.
Holding Selene's hand, Hecate's smile grew even more radiant.
She had not joined Keto's side, and of course, she would not join the other side either.
After all, strictly speaking, she was not closely associated with Athena, and had a distant relationship with Hera. She was just watching all this with interest, thinking it was truly worthwhile to have come today.
“Hey, Selene, who do you think will win–or rather, how many do you think Athena can fight?”
The joy in her voice was hardly concealed, and beside Hecate, the Moon Goddess puffed her cheeks.
“It's best not to fight, what's the point of fighting?”
“Don't say that, this is quite rare… huh?”
Suddenly, Hecate's gaze was drawn to a short figure.
It was a lame man, a rare cripple among the gods. However, on his leg, there was a mechanical tool for mobility.
He walked forward slowly, and under Hera's gaze that was almost spitting fire, he stood on Athena's side.
“That is… Hephaestus? I remember he was invited to Mount Olympus by Zeus after the Typhon disaster. He seems to be the son of Hera, but was quite at odds with her. I didn't expect he would stand with the other side now…”
“What is this, an unconventional courtship? Tch, but whatever it is, I am sure Athena could never fancy him.”
The god of volcanoes and craftsman, the least conspicuous, most unsociable, and least remarkable of the principal gods on Olympus. Many say the only reason he became a principal god was because of his relationship as Hera's son. But it seems they weren't that harmonious.
But nevertheless, this ugly deity silently came to Athena's side, and throughout, Athena, who had been sitting on her throne, sighed upon seeing this. On the young-girl-like appearance finally appeared a trace of helplessness.
Never hurt a smiling person; besides, he had not done what he did in the Fantasy World, so shouting and killing at him was not appropriate for Athena either.
“So it has come to this…”
On her perfect face, a sigh flickered across, and Athena's expression gradually grew serious.
As someone who had seen the script, she had foreseen the events surrounding the Golden Apple, and she could also perceive some of Zeus's intentions.
If she wished, today's events could have developed differently. She was fully confident she could persuade Artemis not to involve herself in Keto's affairs, and she was confident she could tactfully avoid getting caught in the Golden Apple incident.
As long as Zeus played within the rules with her, she would always have ways to not meet his challenges.
But as the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena was also clearly aware that rules are always tools to maintain dominance, not objectively existing things. Only if the benefits of its existence outweigh its absence will those who created it maintain it.
So for Zeus, what was the greatest benefit? Probably the governance of all things, the elevation of strength. To achieve this, he needed to unify the various factions within the Divine Court, gradually replacing the principal gods established without previous choices…and then suppress those old gods that still refuse to submit to the divine king.
So after realizing this, Athena let Artemis be and watched the situation unfold. Because Zeus's decision was inevitable, she could only choose the best time to meet the challenge.
To contend against the Great Divine Power, only another Great Divine Power could do. Whether the Lord of the Spirit Realm cared about the mortal conflicts, she wasn't sure, but now it seemed that there was another being behind Keto very interested in meddling in the mortal realm.
“[Hell] perhaps…”
In Athena's perception, Andrea had a similar nature of power–that was a godhood practitioner of hers. When the two stood within the same hall, she recognized the other's identity immediately.
That was her chosen one, the princess of King of Athens, and now likely a favored one of Hell.
The other side seemed to have an intent to intervene in the mortal realm, perhaps to fight over faith, perhaps for something else. And Hell, with no influence over the mortal realm, clearly needed opportunities and allies; thus, it incited turmoil to expand its strength, and Athens might also be one of its targets.
So when you should decide but don't, you instead bring disaster upon yourself.
Athena did not know if this was the best time, but she understood it wasn't the worst, and she should respond…so she rose from her seat and her eyes scanned the gods.
Since avoidance was impossible–
“Then let it be.”
She spoke slowly, and Athena's dress transformed into armor.
The spear was gripped in her hand, its tip glowing with light.
She was the Goddess of Wisdom, the ruler of all victories, so victory always stood by her side.
