Chapter 1 My Fairy Lord

The skies were dark with flying dust and rocks.

Rolling rocks pummeled the fairies, making dull, thudding sounds. The fairies were all bruised or missing limbs, not a one in sight was whole.

In this depressing scene, the skies looked so dense they almost seemed to fall. The fairies backed away, trying to flee. Qingfu, in hiding for a long time, finally got away from Jiuxiang. She screeched,

"Fairy Lord Tianhan, please wait!" Her voice pitched so high it almost broke.

Fairy Lord Tianhan, in all-silver armor, stiffened but didn't turn around.

Qingfu flew toward Tianhan and knelt. She looked up, her eyes filled with sincerity, and said in earnest, "Qingfu wants to be Fairy Lord Tianhan's captive. Please take me as your ride!"

Tianhan almost fell from his harmonious cloud at her majestic shout.

Qingfu helped steady him and used the chance to touch his gown. She was elated—she got to feel Fairy Lord Tianhan's clothes!

Tianhan frowned and took a deep breath. Acting as if nothing happened, he tried to get away, but seemed to be stuck.

Lowering his head, he saw two hands gripped his thigh and they weren't letting go.

Qingfu used the chance to grip his leg, and the minute Tianhan looked down, she started crying. "Fairy Lord Tianhan, I am but a jade fairy from the No Worries Cave. I'm trying to study fairy craft the proper way. I've never taken any life, not even that of an ant. I really want to be good. Please reconsider!"

Qingfu's pitiful face was covered with tears and seemed worthy of sympathy; even the nearby heavenly guardians and warriors took her side. "Fairy Lord Tianhan, this little fairy doesn't look too evil; maybe she could . . ."

Tianhan shot them a frosty look, instantly shutting them up.

Qingfu grimaced and kept looking at Tianhan.

Tianhan's cold voice rang out. "How dare you create trouble like this? I gave you many chances, considering you were a good elf, but now you're acting up. Let go of me now or I'll never tolerate you!"

Qingfu bit her lip and seemed to hesitate; she almost loosened her grip.

Tianhan suddenly unsheathed his sword, the white light of the blade pointed toward Qingfu.

Qingfu shut her eyes; her hands were shaking with fear, but she still shouted, "Even if I died in your hands, it'd be a dream of mine . . !"

Qingfu's face was pasty white and her closed eyes had teary lashes; along with her gritted teeth, she made quite an impression.

Tianhan's sword swerved. Qingfu waited a while. Seeing no movement, she gingerly opened her eyes. Tianhan seemed stern, but at least he wasn't attacking her. She tried again. "My fairy lord, please accept me."

So he doesn't want to hurt me. Qingfu silently cheered.

As Tianhan sheathed his sword, his gown and armor shook like silver. His tall nose and straight brows complemented his clear gaze. His eyes showed no emotion, only a depth hinting at more than what was seen.

Tianhan's brows lifted as he considered the situation. His thigh was still being held hostage. He couldn't move. What to do?

Qingfu stayed where she was, not letting go.

Tianhan narrowed his eyes and said suddenly, "Your mom is here, with a stick."

Qingfu was confused, and her hands loosened instinctively. She looked around with curiosity. "What? I was born by the heavens. I have no mom nor dad—"

She lost her grip on Tianhan's clothes.

Qingfu realized what was happening. She turned to see Fairy Lord Tianhan had flown away!

He had distracted her and flew off!

A moment later, all other fairies had retreated as well, leaving the Ten Thousand Fairies Cave in ruins.

Qingfu stood still, looking dejected. Someone patted her shoulder. It was Jiuxiang, who had been playing dead all this time. "Are you crazy? He's our enemy! He destroyed the Ten Thousand Elves Cave, and you want to be his ride? Can you have some self-respect?"

Qingfu said nothing.

Jiuxiang sighed. She seemed frustrated at Qingfu. "I know you're in love with Fairy Lord Tianhan. That's okay. Anyone who likes good-looking things will be interested in him. But can you please have some self-respect and not beg him to be his ride? He's attacking our home this time, and not only did you not fight back, you actually surrendered! What were you thinking?"

At first, Qingfu looked bewildered; as sense gradually returned to her, her gaze became clearer. "Jiuxiang, you see, if I were his ride, he'd have feelings for me eventually!"

Jiuxiang had nothing to say.

Qingfu kept talking. "Where shall I go next to find Fairy Lord Tianhan?"

Jiuxiang would have cried if she could.

No one could have foreseen such a turn of fate. Jiuxiang was amazed at Qingfu's good luck. There was a chance for Qingfu's dream to come true, and it was a real, legitimate chance.

Qingfu was about to follow Jiuxiang to her relative's place, but a piece of news changed their plans. The heavenly world and the elves' world were working together on a ride training class and looking for students. If one was lucky, Fairy Lord Tianhan might even teach them himself.

As soon as Tianhan's name was mentioned, Qingfu grabbed Jiuxiang to head to the heavenly world to sign up for class.

The ride training class was at the southern end of the heavenly world, surrounded by a bamboo forest. It was shrouded by fog and distant hills.

Plenty of beings were already at sign-up; most were minor fairies, which made sense. While the teacher was a major fairy, and the graduates were going to be rides for major fairies, one was still going to be a ride and suffer some humiliation. The major elves wouldn't tolerate that, so only minor elves came for the opportunity.

Qingfu and Jiuxiang felt they weren't being taken seriously anyway in the elves' world, so they might as well try their luck in the heavenly world; maybe the training could open some doors for them.

Qingfu thought she must be the only one with such a grand dream.

After sign-up, Qingfu and Jiuxiang were both told to wait inside. Half an hour later, an elegant fairy appeared. "Sorry for the trouble. Fairy Lord Tianhan and Lotus Fairy will be here soon; please wait quietly."

Fairy Lord Tianhan!

Qingfu became very motivated. She didn't know she'd get to see her beloved Tianhan on the first day!

The hosting fairy's polite manners made the fairies calm down instantly. In a moment, Fairy Lord Tianhan and Lotus Fairy arrived, both quite a vision.

Lotus Fairy spoke first. Her pretty face showed off her crystal clear gaze and creamy complexion—even her voice was tender. "The heavenly world and the elves' world are collaborating on this ride-training class so that we can promote friendship between the two worlds, and to utilize all resources and prevent waste. We didn't anticipate so many would come. Initially, we planned for one teacher for one elf; now, it looks as if it'll be several elves with one teacher."

A ruckus ensued. Qingfu raised her hand while staring at Fairy Lord Tianhan. "How many students will Fairy Lord Tianhan teach?"

Hearing a familiar voice and feeling a heated gaze, Fairy Lord Tianhan looked at Qingfu.

He could feel a tension headache coming on. He quickly spoke to Lotus Fairy, who said, "Fairy Lord Tianhan is very busy and lacks time, so he'll teach one student only."

One?!

All the gathered elves started talking. Fairy Lord Tianhan was an important figure in the heavenly world, and everyone wanted to be taught by him; to be his student would be a most coveted position.

Of course, Qingfu desperately wanted this spot; knowing everyone wanted the same thing made her feel uneasy. She said loudly, "I have to be his student!"

Everyone looked at Qingfu; seeing the person who spoke was an underling in the elves' world, everyone laughed derisively.

Lotus Fairy paused but didn't comment.

Fairy Lord Tianhan's gaze landed on Qingfu again. His eyes seemed to have some unspoken meaning. Meanwhile, Qingfu gave him a bright smile and made a gesture as if to say, "Pick me! Trust me, I'll do my best!"

Fairy Lord Tianhan frowned and looked away.

Qingfu's heated gaze kept circling him, making him nervous.

The next day, the teachers would choose the elves as their rides. The elves had one night to prepare, present their best selves to the fairy teachers, and hopefully be picked.
