The doctor touched his beard and shook his head, with an expression which made others’ heart sink.

Furrowing her eyebrows, Xie Mengxuan could not help raising her voice. “You’re a doctor. Please make it clear.”

The doctor hissed. “Well, although this gentleman bled a lot, there’s no wound which could cause him death. There are mainly scratches on his body, some old and some recent. However, there’s congestion in his hindbrain. I could prescribe some drug, but it depends whether he’s able to come to life.”

Her stomach knotted at his words. Xie Mengxuan took two steps forward and said in a low voice. “It depends? There’s congestion in his hindbrain? What do you mean?”

The doctor was in a haze and then waved his hand as a hint. “Please calm down, young lady. The brain is of great importance to human beings. The gentleman was hit hard on the hindbrain so that there’s congestion. He either sinks into a heavy slumber, or suffers sequelae after waking up. You’d better find his family since it takes long rather than two days to look after him.”

Frowning, Xie Mengxuan didn’t utter a single word. Gu Yusheng nodded and chimed in. “Well, thank you, doctor. Please prescribe some medicine.”

The doctor nodded so that Gu Yusheng asked a young monk for help to guide the doctor to another place.

Standing behind Xie Mengxuan, Gu Yusheng said: “Xuan, since you’ve heard that, you’d better consider the following plan.”

She slightly inclined her head with her pretty eyebrows furrowed, but she said nothing.

Gu Yusheng let out a sigh and left towards where the doctor had gone with Uncle Luo.

Xie Mengxuan opened the door and sat on the bed.

“Okay.” The abbot agreed since she was out of good intention. In terms of meals, they were provided by the temple. However, when it came to decoct medicinal herbs, it was a knotty problem considering the complicated situation in the temple and the time it would take.

Now that the abbot had agreed to help her, Xie Mengxuan nodded. “Well, I have to leave now.”

She stood up and went back to the room of Geng Zhishan. The instant she entered in, she noticed that Gu Yusheng retreated his hand with a hideous grin which he failed to cover.

In a daze, Xie Mengxuan was astonished. “Big Brother Gu, what are you doing?”

Gu Yusheng paused and when he looked up, he returned to be gentle on the appearance. “Nothing happened. I just came to visit Brother Geng.” He said with innocence.

“I see.” Xie Mengxuan didn’t find any evidence so that she could not find faults with him based on an expression.

Gu Yusheng offered to ask. “Xuan, is everything settled down?”

She nodded. “Yes. I’ve also passed a message to the Xie family. It’s still early. Let’s set out.”

Gu Yusheng looked pleased. “Really?”

“I never make a joke.” said her.

“But Brother Geng…” It was his turn to be hesitant.

Xie Mengxuan sighed in deep feeling. “Even though he was impolite to you before, you turn out to show much care for him.”

The three people, Xie Mengxuan, Gu Yusheng and Uncle Luo, respectively rode a horse in a hurry. They marched along the government-financed road to the south.

In the temple they considered as a safe place, a man in black, not noticed by anyone, quietly sneaked into the room of Geng Zhishan.

With an intention to kill him, the man was holding a knife shinning with a cold light. In addition, there was a smell of blood from it. He sneered and hurried to wave the steel knife, but soon he paused.

On the bed, the eyelashes of Geng Zhishan slightly trembled. He slowly sat up. “They can’t wait any more…”

He kicked the black-clad man who fell onto the ground and then bled from one's mouth, nostrils, eyes and ears to death.

Again, Geng Zhishan sank into a profound slumber, only with a thought that he should hurry his work as soon as possible, as his girl was going to the southern reaches of Yangtze River.
