Chapter 2 NiuXu, the stubborn youth
NiuXu strolled out of the archaic yet peaceful school. After nearing the school gates, the world outside the campus were incomparably lively in a flash.
Looking ahead, those green coloured objects were all towering skyscrapers. The highest section of the skyscraper had deeply submerged itself in the midst of the clouds.
Only a handful of people were walking on the spacious roads, while the others were
driving numerous hovering cars 100m above the the roads, shuttling among the skyscrapers. Those suspension cars were so closely-packed such that it formed a compact "river" of cars.
The low airspace above NiuXu's head, ranging from 10m to 100m, were filled youths around his age that were flying on hoverboards. Several hordes of shouts and cheers accompanied them as they flew afar in an instant.
But the most eye catching thing was a car that was parked directly outside the school gates. This was the newest model of maglev car manufactured by the Auspicious Company.
When the door of the maglev car opened, a voluptuous figure raised her leg and sat into the car. She was a year 3 senior sister.
NiuXu apathetically walked past the maglev car without daring to take a glimpse inside as he was afraid that the people in the car would misunderstand him; He knew that the burly man in the car, nicknamed LeiPeng of Thunder Master, was the leader of the famous Lightning Martial Arts School in Twin Tower District. Other than the numerous instructors and disciples in his martial arts school, just based on his personal strength alone is at the Advanced Stage of Warrior.
Naturally, his reputation in BaoQing City was quite deplorable as he was quite overbearing. Of course, his overbearingness was backed up by strength; If such a large character wanted to find trouble with NiuXu, it would be as a matter of course, considered as a disastrous consequence for NiuXu.
Although NiuXu deliberately tried to hide away, he was called upon by LeiPeng, "Hey Kid! You must be NiuXu right; I've noticed you for a long time and I really like you. Why don't you follow me?"
"As long as you follow me, you will get to enjoy several delicious delicacies in the future. Moreover, if your performance is impressive, I can think of a way and send you to cultivate at Extreme Dao Martial Arts School; I heard that you are still a virgin, let me give you this chick for a few days to play with."
Instantly, NiuXu felt that his body was unwell.
Notwithstanding the effects of seductiveness of the senior sister on the the youth, just based on the trip to BaoQing's City best Extreme Dao Martial Arts School to cultivate was alone already an alluring condition. Furthermore, going there to cultivate has been his biggest dream.
However, NiuXu remembered the vow his grandfather told him to make before he died: No matter what, do not join organisations like Lightning Martial Arts School, I must be a righteous man; NiuXu clearly remembered that after he made the vow, his grandfather closed his eyes in fain.
Thinking up till this point, NiuXu respectfully bowed towards LeiPeng and said, "Master Lei, thank you for your good intentions. However, I made a promise to my dead relative that I have to be a righteous man, so all I can say is sorry."
"You shameless little rascal, how can words spoken by Master Lei be rejected so easily…" reprimanded the driver, who is one of the famous Four Great Diamonds-brother Hammer, which was also part of the Lightning Martial Arts School.
However, Master Lei casually waved his hand, "To think that you are such filial kid. Nevermind. Pretend that I did not say anything. However, if one day, you change your mind, please remember to come and find me."
After he finished speaking, brother Hammer activated the maglev car under the indications of Master Lei. It rose up to the air and disappeared without a trace.
After travelling afar, brother Hammer curiously asked, "Master Lei, it seems like you value that kid quite a fair bit. He is just a kid with a normal evolution rate. Is it realy necessary?"
Under the service of the senior sister, Master Lei lit up a cigar and thoughtfully said, "Actually, evolution rate is not that important to professions like us. It's not like we are trying to nurture a Warrior realm expert."
"The most crucial thing is loyalty to the Martial Arts School and fight ruthlessly. Moreover, NiuXu has a few inborn speciality, that is why I value him so much; If we nurture him a little, he can definitely become a capable person in the Martial Arts School."
After listening to Master Lei's evaluation, both brother Hammer and the senior sister started to have some thoughts of their own…
***
NiuXu let out a breath of relief once he saw that Master Lei's maglev car has traveled quite a distance; he raised his wrist, and glanced at his only smart equipment, which was a smart watch. It was allotted by the government and made compulsory to have it on their wrist all the time; It was only now did he realise that the timing was approaching 6pm.
"Shit, it's almost time for work." NiuXu made a 囧 expression and immediately dashed off.
16 years after the invention of maglev cars, the normal price is already very affordable to the masses. However, to NiuXu, that is still a highly unreachable price; What's even worse was that he could not even bring himself to buy the cheapest hoverboard.
Originally, by relying on his job, he was able to earn a meagre disposable income; It's just that those incomes were used up to buy high energy food to replenish the energy his body exhausted during cultivation, and it was still not enough.
Thus leaving him no choice, NiuXu, whose pocket was forever cleaner than his face, could only use his legs which had been the primitive mode of transport for mankind for thousand of years.
When he was sprinting, NiuXu was used to slightly bending his back, every time he lands, he used fore feet to support himself; followed by an explosive push from his feet, even before his heel touched the ground, propelling himself a large distance in just one stride. When looking from afar, his posture was as elegant as a sprinting leopard.
When he was five, under the guidance of his grandfather, NiuXu trained diligently in his ancestral Eight Stage Fists. Ever since then, he had been practising for 11 years. Even when he was 13 when his grandfather died, and he had completely became an orphan, NiuXu continued to practise KungFu.
After years of arduously hard work, NiuXu achieved a perfect physique. Ever since young, he did not once suffered from a fever and when he was 14, during the time he was preparing to enter into high school, he had already reached the legendary enlightenment realm of Eight Stage Fists, which was comparable to the strength of a beginner stage Apprentice Warrior. However, to put things into perspective, it all just amounts to that.
He only had a evolution rate of 18%, which could be counted as standard for normal people. Furthermore, his martial arts and cultivations resources were all inferior, which caused his overall strength to rise slowly. Despite all his hard work, his peers caught up to him in the end, and eventually overtook him.
'The requirements for intermediate stage of Apprentice Warrior realm are every hit strength is above 400kg, explosive speed is 1km/min, reaction time is 0.5ms; his speed and reaction time had long passed the requirements, but his hit strength always missed by that small portion.' NiuXu ran as he lost himself in contemplation.
The daily strengthening cultivation had already reached the limit of NiuXu's body; If he wanted to increase his training regiment, without high energy containing food to replenish his body, it will only bring irreversible harm to his body.
"If only my grandfather was here, everything wouldn't be so strenuous!" When NiuXu was lamenting, he have reached his workplace, JiShiTang Medical Center.
***
JiShiTang Medical Center, by solely looking at that name, it would definitely cause people to have a misconception that this was a grand Chinese Medical Center.
In reality, the center was situated at a very remote place and it was made up of the modifications of a few garages, it was run by an old man with a white beard.
Pushing open the dilapidated glass door, NiuXu glanced at the electronic clock on the wall. Luckily it's only 5:58pm, only 2 minutes away from the actual work timing.
The business in the Medical Center was as cold as usual.
Expectedly, in this age, other than those 100 years old plus elderly, who will still come to this sort of Chinese Medical Center, which had been ostracised by the main society.
"Lill' Niu, you have come. Old rules, just clean the Medical Center and do what you have to do. Don't disturb me." White beard LaoChen plainly greeted NiuXu, and after that, he went back to his table and flipped over the pages of the old medical book that had turned yellow due to the passage of time.
NiuXu softly responded and with his deft hands, he started to clean the entire medical center. He had been cleaning for the past 3 years, hence, he was very familiar with it.
Despite his indifferent expression, LaoChen was very kind-hearted. For this, NiuXu was actually very grateful to him, if not for him, 3 years ago, who would have hired a merely 13 years old kid.
Although it had only been 30 minutes, NiuXu had already cleaned the the entire medical center, which meant that his job was basically finished. However, he had to wait till 8pm and helping LaoChen to close up the center before leaving.
After finding a chair, NiuXu sat at the corner of the wall and started reading the unfinished acupuncture medical book from last time; NiuXu had spent quite a fair bit of time with Chinese medicine and felt that those rumours about Chinese medicine being obsolete, were all uncredible.
Every night after practising the martial arts, NiuXu would follow the instructions on the medical book and after performing a series of acupunctures on himself, the lethargicness started to fade away; Hence, during the 3 years, he had finished a bookshelf of books that was taller than him.
One old and one young dully sat still 8pm, and as per normal, there were no visits from patients.
Just when NiuXu was about to close up, LaoChen called him,"That bag of antibiotics near the door had expired, throw it away on your way out; It was said that there will be a thunderstorm tonight, remember to go home early."
After he finished speaking, LaoChen casually walked out of the door and wobbly walked towards his house; NiuXu nimbly closed the door and walked home while carrying a bag of antibiotics.
He decided to throw away the bag of antibiotics into the dustbin that was 2 streets away. This was due to the fact that if people discovered that the Medical center boasted about them using 100% traditional Chinese medicine while adding in large amounts of antibiotics into Chinese medicine, it was without a doubt, an extremely awkward matter.
NiuXu understood that to professions like LaoChen, there were nothing they could do about it; Outside the City walls were filled with ferocious mutant beasts, causing the once relaxing job of picking herbs to become extremely perilous.
Other than the gardens within the City walls, which provided a few common herbs, a large batch of Chinese medicine was extremely tough to source for. At least this was so for LaoChen, who could not steadily.
Therefore, to ensure that the treatment works, secretly adding in a portion of Western medicine to Chinese medicine was something that left them with no choice but to do it.
When he was a few hundred meters away from the medical center, ice-cold raindrops started to drip onto NiuXu's face. As he was planning to increase his speed when it was drizzling, a flash of lightning pierced the the night sky, accurately striking NiuXu's body.
