Just Mine 117 A Woman in Power

He wiped the tear off his face as he thought of his late daughter Rose, she was a very bright child, she really wanted education, and education killed her. If not for the corruption in the country, things would have been easier for both him and his daughter.

When he agreed to go for the meeting yesterday, he had made up his mind not to blink or change his decision, he wasn't going to speak to the press again. He had to go to the meeting because he wanted to hear what they'll have to say about his daughter's death. But he was surprised at the CEO's behavior, even though he promised he won't believe their words, he already believed her even before his later daughters boyfriend came into the room, apologized and told him everything and why he couldn't tell them the truth. He also met with one of the man involved in his daughter's death, they all knelt down and apologized.

The CEO, not just any company. The CEO of the great Jaydite had knelt down in tears, begging him, a nobody....asking for his forgiveness, he could see through her and knew it wasn't an act, and the fact that there was no paparazzi around proved she wasn't doing it for attention. No pictures were taken, just a private meeting, in a small restaurant. She even told some people to keep watch at his house and advised him and his family to lay low until the whole thing is over.

She had given his remaining children scholarship and even got him a decent job in a company. He had refused but she bust into tears again, he accepted it cause he knew the lady wouldn't leave him if he accepted it. She had told her boys to help him and his family move, after the funeral to the house the company gave him.

He sighed as he took his last daughters hand and walked out of the house to the vehicle Ms Sky sent to pick them to the funeral.

Ms Sky are you ok? Dwayne asked as he walked to the terrace to meet his boss. She was dressed in a black flare dress. She had her bandage removed early this morning, so she put on a hat. She stood staring into space and rubbing her baby bump. She had a dark make up on, smoky look, the ladies call it these days. Because of her mood and the makeup, she looked different. He was scared to get any closer to her but Chiamanda had told him that the boss didn't sleep well last night and they had to apply alot of make up under her eyes to cover up the sack.

I'm fine, I just hate burials. Remember Mr Jayden's burial? I could'nt get close to the coffin, I stood far and watched as he was buried. I don't attend burials. she said looking down. After my dad I promised myself I wouldn't. When one of my dad's cousin died, I travelled all the way to the north for his funeral cause we were close and the man was a very kind man. Well on the day of the burial, I couldn't do it. I travelled back to the Capital the morning of the funeral while my mom attended the burial. It brings bad memories and it haunts me.

Then ma'am you shouldn't go...we will go, you just stay here. Dwayne said to her.

And what will that make me? what will Rose's parent think and the press too. Don't worry, I will stay at the back in church and I will briefly greet her parents at the front then return to the back where I won't see a thing.

I'm fine Dwayne, so don't worry about me, she said dismissing him.

Dwayne sighed as he turned back to leave, she was different from all the girls he's been with, he never knows what she's thinking and he was to scared to make that leap because he wasn't sure of his feelings and Sky wasn't a woman he wants to mess with. She's changed since the accident especially to him, maybe she knew Bisi came to the hotel. He'll have to tell her soon.

He had never understood men who said they won't settle with women in power, women who are more powerful than them but now he does, He was scared of his boss and he always like to be in charge.

Sky dialled her mom's number after Dwayne left. Mom I'll be back soon please cook lots of food, I'm worried for my baby, I haven't been feeding my sweetpea well plus I'm kinda sick. Yes ma, I miss you all. Yes mom, it's this morning, wish me well. Bye mom and love you too, kiss Tega for me.

Sky opened her inbox and smiled at the messages Anton sent her last night before he boarded his flight. He should be in the Capital by noon. His last text was "don't go to the funeral" in capital letters. She shook her head and smiled as she went to the next message.

Oh, she said as she opened it. She didn't know Neto sent her a message this morning. She smiled as she read it.

"Hi Sky...I hope you are doing ok and hope City L weather isn't too hot. Goodluck with the burial today and the press conference. I know how much you hate funerals. Don't go too close. Pighting, he wrote with a muscle emoji"

She laughed at his last word and the emoji. He knew she loved Korean movies that's why he wrote "'Pighting'". She closed her phone and went to the adjoining room to meet Chiamanda.

Are u set Chiamanda? She asked picking her purse. It's going to be a long day.

Yes indeed ma'am. I packed some snacks for you and fruit juice, just Incase you are hungry.

Thank you dear, you look good. Sky smiled as she looked at Chiamanda, since she got to City L, she always takes her time to dress well. she's noticed the way she looks at Bones but the poor girl doesn't even know she has fallen for him.
