I hope this is useful to you.
"Tsk~ If the previous behemoth was just all shell with no meat, you're basically just an empty husk, aren't you?"
Xiao Bai muttered under his breath after completing the data recovery and absorption from the large mecha. The meager returns were completely disproportionate to the effort.
The massive mecha remained silent, collapsing with a deafening thud.
Xiao Bai proceeded to dismantle the remaining four behemoths, but the results were the same: apart from a pile of chitin, the metallic components barely totaled over ten thousand units.
The weapons were especially barren, leaving him utterly perplexed.
"They looked perfectly intact from the outside. Why are they so hollow inside? Has time corroded them beyond recognition? Or have those lymphoid tissues completely devoured them?"
In contrast, the scattered light mechs on the ground still had some salvageable parts, providing a modest amount of resources and even helping fill in some data gaps. They also introduced a new category called "Spectacular," containing several video records.
"Are these combat records? Perfect, I can see how that mummy attacks..."
Xiao Bai eagerly clicked to open the file.
Two seconds later, he let out a startled cry:
"Wow! What the hell is this?!"
On the screen, two grotesque monsters with triangular and trapezoidal heads, each with a single eye and a gaping maw, were...
reproducing?
"Are they fucking kidding me? Putting porn in a mecha archive? Are we supposed to get busy before the fight?"
"This is a horror movie! It's even worse than the Ultraman series!"
Despite his cursing, he maintained the professional integrity of a biologist and forced himself to watch for a few more minutes before finally closing the window.
He immediately began packing and uploading the files, preparing to send the rest to Lao Luo.
How could he keep such important biological data to himself?
He also wrote a brief situation report for Lao Luo, explaining that he had encountered these 'remnants of a lost civilization' during a confidential commission, collected this precious video record, and planned to create a gene map later when he had time.
The report also included records and footage of the Mutants, along with a video of Xiao Bai taking down a Large Mecha.
He had initially planned to report the Mummy incident as well. Such a terrifying Demonic Beast, capable of easily destroying a city, should be reported as soon as possible so preparations could be made.
However, when he reviewed the footage, he discovered that every part featuring the Mummy had been blacked out. The video seemed perfectly edited, with not a single frame remaining.
The Scanner showed even less reaction, leaving no record whatsoever, as if the creature had never existed.
Left with no choice, Xiao Bai took some background photos and "wished" for a photo-editing software. Using his "soul-level" drawing skills, he crudely sketched a stick-figure Mummy in the sky and added text to describe its eerie and dangerous nature.
Whether Lao Luo would believe it remained to be seen. It was 1 AM now, and Xiao Bai wouldn't be able to check the report until morning.
"Keep going," he muttered. "There are still so many places to scavenge."
Xiao Bai resumed his busy work. Several hours later, he finally received a reply from Lao Luo:
"Big Shot, did I offend you somehow? Why would you send me such a hardcore horror video to scare me?"
"No, no, I found this ancient relic from the Lost Civilization in Paradise . Didn't I explain it later?"
"Uh... alright, I watched the video first... Let me take another look."
After a while, Lao Luo contacted him again:
"Big Shot, I've verified it. This is a creature from what's currently known as 'Civilization 1,' the first Lost Civilization we discovered. The earliest mecha technology originated from them...
Your scan records and video footage are incredibly valuable for researching them. I've already submitted them, and they're sure to catch the higher-ups' attention. The contribution points will be substantial!
As for those Out-of-Control individuals who seem capable of resonating with mecha, that's not entirely new. But Big Shot, your fight was just too badass! I've watched it several times."
"Alright, I understand, but... studying that kind of footage... doesn't it feel a bit... strange?"
"Why would it? The reproductive process of a species is a crucial aspect of understanding them. Though it's a bit unusual, the footage is undoubtedly invaluable data."
"Fine, what about the mummy? Did it get any attention?"
Xiao Bai brought up the matter he cared about most, and after another pause, he received a reply:
"Well... it's not that I doubt you, Big Shot, but there's no data to speak of—just written descriptions and crude sketches. It's a bit... lacking. Still, it does confirm the existence of such high-risk Demonic Beasts. The Apocalypse and The End aren't just myths."
Since the conversation had taken this turn, Xiao Bai also asked Lao Luo for his thoughts on the "end of the world."
The Apocalypse and The End remained classified information to the public, at least not openly discussed on the internet. Yet within the Tavern, it was a perennial topic of debate, with numerous discussions on the subject that Xiao Bai had witnessed.
Opinions generally fe ll into two camps: optimistic and pessimistic. The optimists either dismissed the stories as mere myths, not to be taken seriously, or believed that any potential calamity lay centuries in the future, trusting that future generations would find a solution.
The pessimists, however, feared that such a catastrophe was inevitable and that all current human efforts were futile. They prophesied the world's certain doom, and their despair even gave rise to malevolent factions like the "Children of the Abyss."
Xiao Bai w as actually a pessimist, but his perspective differed. While he believed the day of reckoning would come, he refused to resign himself to fate. Instead, he channeled the looming crisis into motivation, determined to resist with every ounce of his strength.
As for Lao Luo, he replied:
"I haven't given it much thought, but I suppose we should just focus on doing good and not worry about the future... Oh, by the way, Big Shot, aren't you concerned about revealing details of a confidential commission like this?"
"No problem. Just don't spread it, Teacher. I'm just trying to patch up this dilapidated world, after all."
"Hmm, Big Shot, you certainly have a kind heart."
Their conversation ended there. Some time later, Xiao Bai suddenly received a message from an unfamiliar account.
Inside was a short message:
"I can't help you much, but I hope this is useful."
Following the message were various battle reports and combat records detailing human strategies against various dangerous demonic beasts. These included detailed descriptions of the beasts' weaknesses, patterns of movement, and recommended countermeasures.
This information was undoubtedly invaluable to investigators, but it wasn't free. The price was often steep, making it among the most expensive technical documents available in the "Tavern."
Xiao Bai glanced at the sender's ID: Retired Old Man.
He couldn't help but grumble:
"Old Man Lao Luo is thoughtful, but his naming skills are really..."
"But seriously, why aren't these resources shared openly? Don't we want to cooperate and face the apocalypse together?"
