Chapter 1688: Chapter 1689: The Impassable Gully Chapter 1688: Chapter 1689: The Impassable Gully This surprise attack was so sudden that Jesse could do nothing but condense the smoke into a shield in an attempt to fend it off, yet in the end, his scapula was still fiercely hacked by the sword.
That one strike nearly cleaved Jesse in two, and he could feel an eerie power targeting the Divine coursing into him from the wound, spreading and eroding throughout his body. For a moment, he was utterly helpless against this strange force.
Spurt~
A mouthful of fresh blood sprayed out as Jesse's body, like a broken sack, was flung more than ten meters away, violently crashing into several white pillars beside the Temple Gate.
That sword strike had reduced Jesse's Vitality Points by a third, and blood gushed from the wound, showing no signs of healing. Meanwhile, the strange power that targeted the Divine continued to infiltrate his organs, causing Jesse to lose control of his body momentarily!
Bang~
With a soft noise, Jesse, who had fallen and remained still, burst apart, transforming into a dense black smoke that roiled and spread, swiftly rising into the air.
Moments later, the smoke halfway up in the sky condensed again, taking the shape of Jesse.
At this point, Jesse still had only two-thirds of his Vitality Points, his complexion terrifyingly grim as he lifted the longbow without hesitation, aiming it at Song Jian!
“Despicable deity!” Jesse growled low, his face contorted with ferocity, as he shot three arrows at Song Jian in rapid succession.
These three arrows radiated dazzling divine light, one covered in a red glow like flames, another filled with the power of ice in a white light, and the last one a sinister purple-green heavy with toxic power.
Fire, ice, poison, as well as smoke–Jesse turned out to be a mid-tier deity who had mastered four Powers of Law, which was somewhat beyond Song Jian's expectations.
In Song Jian's senses, Jesse was at best master of only the smoke aspect of Law; he never anticipated that Jesse had hidden his abilities so well.
“Even among the alien races, there is a mid-tier deity with divine powers. Why then were these alien god-like beings not cast down to the mortal realm along with the other deities?” Song Jian pondered with a hint of doubt, but it didn't hinder him from wielding his sword to unleash the Chaos Sword Canon!
Red Dust Tribulation!
In an instant, Song Jian's figure vanished, and brilliant lights like stars emerged within the void.
Jesse was taken aback as he found himself unable to locate Song Jian's whereabouts, who had suddenly disappeared from his perception, causing his heart to sink abruptly.
To evade a Main God Level skill, one must use a Main God Level skill. Jesse swiftly retreated, knowing that if he couldn't kill his opponent in an instant, his only option was to temporarily avoid the attack. After all, being a ranged combatant, he was not adept at close combat.
However, at that moment, the dazzling sword glimmers in the void, like swimming fish, all flew towards him, tracing strange arcs in the air.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh~
Alarm surged within Jesse as he dodged frantically, but these sword lights had the special effect of soul-locking, which were not easily evaded by mere dodging.
Thump thump thump~
Sword marks appeared all over Jesse's body, and within a few seconds, he was marked by numerous cuts, each one causing severe damage, some even slicing right through his bones.
Jesse, who had maintained a humanoid form, could no longer control his own body; a powerful surge of Vitality burst forth, and concurrently, his body began to rapidly transform into something non-human.
“The gods are going to die!” Jess roared, tossing his longbow into the sky. The longbow, which had been emitting a dark gold glow, actually disintegrated in mid-air, turning into countless sparkling light points that vanished into thin air.
This was another of Jess's innate abilities, which allowed him to sacrifice an item of equipment on his person to enhance his own strength. The higher the quality of the equipment, the greater the increase in strength!
Boom~
The over four-meter-tall Jess smashed his fist against a pillar beside him with such force that he broke the stone column of the Temple, the upper half flying outwards.
It should be noted that this Temple had not been abandoned, still suffused with divine light and protected by magical formations. Even ordinary deities capable of destroying such a column wouldn't have done it as effortlessly as Jess.
Next, Jess actually lifted the remaining half of the column straight off its foundation with both hands, twirled it and, with a deep leap, smashed it down directly onto Song Jian's head.
“Has he switched from ranged to melee?” Song Jian was taken aback, acutely sensing the terrifying aura emanating from Jess.
Boom~
The surface of the stone column in Jess's hands suddenly burst into fierce flames, like a thick sword of fire, as he brought it crashing down towards Song Jian.
Song Jian swung his Sky-breaking Sword forcefully upwards, slicing Jess's flaming stone column in half, and in the same movement, pierced fiercely into Jess's right arm, then jerked the blade back!
Blood gushed forth like a fountain. Song Jian noticed that although Jess had transformed into a giant gorilllike monster, with a Vitality three times denser than before, his intelligence seemed to have been affected. His attacks had become more ferocious, but his moves did not vary at all, lacking any adaptability and straightforward without any change.
“In this case, hasn't his strength actually regressed, becoming easier to handle?” A smile appeared on Song Jian's lips. In the next moment, his body was surrounded by densely packed Spirit Swords.
“Go!”
With a thought, countless Spirit Swords flew toward Jess. Each sword performed a different sword technique, and in an instant, there were thousands of sword masters seemingly surrounding and attacking Jess together.
Roar roar~
Jess could only bellow in rage, swinging his fists at the Spirit Swords surrounded by the Red Lotus Karma Fire.
“A cornered beast still fights!” Song Jian sneered, and instead of advancing, he leaped back down the Temple steps, watching the giant Jess struggling amidst the onslaught of countless Spirit Swords while his Vitality Points were slowly worn away.
Jess' defeat was only a matter of time. His massive form seemed only capable of wielding the Law of Flames, his body randomly emitting jets of flame aimed at the Spirit Swords.
Even so, half an hour later, Jess was on one knee, covered in blood, his body riddled with layers of sword wounds, not a hand-sized patch of intact skin to be found.
In the moment before his Vitality Points were depleted, Jess's eyes suddenly became lucid. He looked at Song Jian, then twisted his head towards the Temple Gate.
At that moment, he was less than ten steps from the Temple Gate, but those ten steps seemed as insurmountable as a chasm!
“Main God Level…” Jess murmured to himself, completely unaware that above his head, a massive Blazing Fire Furnace was slowly opening its lid.
