Chapter 1563: Chapter 1564: Enhancement Chapter 1563: Chapter 1564: Enhancement This bronze fragment was only the size of a palm, its surface etched with complex convex and concave patterns that were indiscernible in design. Along the edges, the clear fractures indicated that it had been broken off from a complete object.
Even as a shattered piece, it was a legendary-quality treasure, emitting a purplish-gold glow.
The properties of the bronze fragment were merely listed as a part of some treasure, which altogether consisted of three such fragments. Collecting all three pieces would allow for the reassembly of the complete artifact, and only then would its true properties be revealed.
The attributes of the bronze fragment were a series of question marks, but the item's description clearly stated, “This item was one of the Ancient Divine King's most cherished treasures…”
“Ancient Divine King…” A contemplative look appeared in Song Jian's eyes. It was known that there were several levels of divinity, with the weakest being the lower deity. Once one controlled the Power of Law and achieved level one hundred eighty, one could advance to that rank. Above that were the intermediate deities, the higher deities, and then there were the Main Deities, whose ranks were numbered at only twelve. Only with the fall of one could a new Main Deity emerge. Above the Main Deities were the God Kings, which might appear only once every millions of years. The birth of each God King was accompanied by a War of the God Kings, where a multitude of deities perished, paving the way for the God King with their bones.
Though this bronze fragment seemed ordinary, the fact that the complete object was beloved by a God King suggested that it was an extremely precious divine artifact.
“If Basford had noticed this line, he would probably endure the punishment of the Sacred Contract rather than hand over the item to me!” A sly smile played across Song Jian's lips as he glanced at Basford.
After handing over the three treasures to Song Jian, Basford suddenly felt a weight lift from his shoulders, as if he had relieved himself of a heavy burden. Yet, he also felt a pang of loss, as if a precious opportunity had slipped away from him.
“Song Jian, I have fulfilled my promise. Now, may I go look for what you promised?” Basford said, his face slightly distorted with unease.
“Of course, you may. The chance you seek should be within the temple. Go find it yourself; the guardian inside has already been defeated by me!” Song Jian said with a smile, toying with the bronze fragment.
Basford snorted coldly and launched himself toward the temple, hoping that Patu hadn't perished and would deal Song Jian a severe blow.
Stationed in his place, Song Jian waited silently. Basford's figure had already vanished at the temple's gateway. Shortly after, a miserable scream emanated from the temple, accompanied by an outburst of Basford's enraged roaring.
“Song Jian, you dare to deceive me!”
The sound of Basford's voice was as heart-wrenching as a cuckoo crying blood, but Song Jian merely laughed heartily.
In his previous battle with the remnant soul of the Goddess of Harvest, Song Jian had struggled greatly. After only a dozen or so exchanges, he had retreated from the temple. A real deity, even using the meteor-like abilities, was not someone he, a player at the Legendary Realm, could face single-handedly.
In the end, Song Jian had managed to diminish only a third of the Goddess statue's Vitality Points.
Given the disparity in rank, Song Jian's damage was greatly reduced. Even when causing true damage, his attacks would often miss when striking the Goddess statue–the suppression of rank was far more fearsome than that of level.
After leaving the temple, the Goddess statue did not pursue him. Stepping out of the temple was akin to leaving the combat area, and the Goddess statue returned to her place. The previously shattered barbed whip had turned back into ears of wheat, and a pale golden flame had reappeared in her right hand.
All of this was like a spider's web, masterfully woven and waiting for prey to willingly ensnare itself–Basford was that prey.
Song Jian chuckled and looked over to the large pit. By that time, the lava within the pit had begun to solidify, turning into a dark, solid mass, and the Black Ice Crystal at the bottom of the pit had also come into view.
At this moment, Patu's Vitality Points within the black ice were less than one-tenth remaining; he was on the brink of death. However, the black ice crystal on the surface of his body was shimmering with a hint of faint golden light. Clearly, this black ice was much more robust than any that had appeared before, containing a trace of the Divine. Such an existence could already be compared to the lowest tier of divine items.
This was also why Basford, despite knowing Patu was gravely injured and on the brink of death, did not continue to try to kill him. It wasn't that he didn't want to; rather, the time and cost required for Basford to break through the black ice defense were too great; the gain did not justify the effort. Moreover, he didn't believe Song Jian could break through it either.
When he would obtain the chance to become a god and return to kill Patu, it was worth noting that killing a Demi-God level powerhouse meant one could, even if there were no spoils to claim, have a certain chance to comprehend the slain enemy's Power of Law.
Thousand Swords Art!
Song Jian uttered a light shout, and thousands of Spirit Swords appeared, converging in the air into a giant grinding disc. The Sword Qi Grinding Disc, like a dark cloud, loomed over Song Jian's head, bringing an ancient and desolate aura that faced him and put everything within hundreds of meters under its oppressive force.
“I wonder how long your black ice defense will last under my Sword Qi Grinding Disc…” Song Jian muttered to himself. With a thought, the Sword Qi Grinding Disc slowly started to rotate, and a force of suction pulled the more than one-person-tall Black Ice Crystal from the bottom of the pit into the disc.
Boom–
The speed at which the grinding disc rotated suddenly slowed, hesitated for a moment, and then gradually returned to its previous speed.
A faint scream, almost imperceptible, came from within the disc as the colossal Sword Qi Grinding Disc began to slowly vanish into the void.
After a moment, Song Jian gained a massive amount of battle experience. However, he no longer had the means to continue leveling up and had to save up all the battle experience.
At the same time, he gained three points of Divinity, which excited Song Jian greatly.
“Continue to upgrade Thousand Swords Art!”
Song Jian thought to himself quietly.
The proficiency of the Karmic Fire Red Lotus Ten Thousand Swords Art started to increase at a visibly rapid pace, and soon after, it leveled up three times in quick succession.
Now, the Karmic Fire Red Lotus Ten Thousand Swords Art, which had already been upgraded to a legendary quality, began to show a mysterious change in color. Beneath the purple crystal hue, an iridescent light flickered in and out of visibility.
“Thousand Swords Art seems to be breaking through the legendary quality…” A look of surprise emerged in Song Jian's eyes.
Just then, an explosion suddenly resounded from the temple.
Boom–
The whole temple trembled slightly. Song Jian looked up, stomped hard on the ground, and his figure dashed towards the temple like lightning.
