Chapter 1349: Chapter 1351: Ambushed in the Sky Chapter 1349: Chapter 1351: Ambushed in the Sky Song Jian stared at the task prompt for a while, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. It seemed the hint implied that the meteorite shard could be destroyed, and if it were, the combat power assessment task of everyone involved would fail.
“If obtaining the meteorite shard counts as completing the assessment, then why is there a hidden condition for destroying it?” Song Jian pondered to himself.
However, since he didn't even know what the meteorite shard looked like at this point, pondering over these details was useless. Song Jian revolved the thoughts in his mind for a moment before putting the system prompt out of his mind.
After waiting a while longer, under the lead of an individual, they bypassed security checks and entered the airport through a special passageway, boarding a private plane.
Once everyone was on the plane, it began to take off slowly. Song Jian discovered there was a small arms arsenal on board, filled with a variety of weapons, ranging from Tiger Fang Daggers to AUG submachine guns, high explosive grenades, Kevlar Bulletproof Vests–practically everything one could need, and it seemed all were available for their use free of charge.
However, the dozen or so people who boarded the plane with Song Jian only glanced at the wide-open doors of the arsenal before losing interest. They took their seats, closed their eyes, and began to rest.
Song Jian also carefully inspected the small weapons arsenal on the plane and found that the weapons provided for free were of average quality, corresponding to equipment of grey or white quality.
To ordinary people, these pieces of equipment would be considered exquisite, but to this group of examinees at the Peak of Second-tier Combat Power, the arsenal was somewhat less impressive.
“This flying contraption is quite novel, flies high, and seems to be a mechanical creation, but its defenses seem a bit weak…” an examinee, who appeared to be flying for the first time, touched the fuselage and murmured softly.
“The flying speed is average. If I knew the destination, I wouldn't bother taking it; I'd much rather set out to find the task items myself…” Another person looked out the window for a while before curling his lip in disdain.
“It's okay, I guess; it's a bit faster than my Pegasus. Now I just hope that Alien Clan doesn't move too fast…”
“The previous task mentioned that we're not the only competitors. What if the Alien Clan, due to their overwhelming strength, was also divided into two, or even three teams, each belonging to a competing company? Then, it won't just be the Human Race and Alien Clan competing–there could be three, or even four camps in contention,” an examinee suddenly spoke up, his eyes shining with the idea.
This suggestion immediately energized the others. One of them quickly said, “That might be the case, otherwise, why would there only be fourteen of us, yet we're considered the side with an advantage, and we're three days late entering the game…”
“If that's the case, it'd be great. We could muddy the waters and the likelihood of completing the assessment task could increase by at least threefold!”
On the plane, the group was abuzz with discussion. Teer looked out the window with a grave expression. He had already failed the third-tier combat power assessment over five times, with the most successful attempt ending with the task item merely ten meters away from him, yet in the end, he still failed. In other attempts, he didn't even make it to the last part of the assessment task before he was beaten to a near-death state and kicked out of the assessment.
“I hope I can complete the assessment task smoothly this time…” Teer sighed inwardly, closed his eyes, and started to rest.
After over two hours of flight, everyone's task bars vibrated slightly. Song Jian quickly opened his task bar to find that a new marker had appeared on the previously empty task map. This marker was shining brightly, continuously spreading rings of light around it.
“The task location has appeared…” someone exclaimed.
Song Jian felt a relief in his heart, indicating they were nearing the task site, hence the location being marked. This way, if anything unexpected occurred, they wouldn't be separated.
Just then, Song Jian felt a sudden tightness in his heart as if some danger was rapidly approaching, putting him on high alert. He instinctively stood up and looked around, his eyes scanning like searchlights, attempting to locate the source of the danger.
Teer, seeing Song Jian suddenly stand up with a serious look, was taken aback. Seeing Song Jian look around as if on the lookout for something, a tightness gripped Teer's heart as well.
At that moment, Doya let out a low cry, “Not good, I sense that danger is approaching us…”
No sooner had she spoken than, following a muffled bang, the plane shook violently. Many people, caught off guard, stumbled around; some even rolled along the aisle towards the tail of the plane like tumbleweeds, while Song Jian stood firm, eyes closed as if sensing something.
“Ouch, what's happening?”
“Damn it, we are under attack; someone is attacking us!”
“How do we get out? Doesn't this flying contraption have countermeasures? Why isn't it fighting back?”
Many of the examinees from the Human Race were on a plane for the first time and were furious when they saw that their flying contraption was under attack and not responding with any counterattacks.
Some, with hot tempers, even started to attack the plane itself, trying to break out, and the situation suddenly became chaotic.
“Calm down!” Teer took his shield off his back, held it in his hand, and shouted, “Panic will not help the situation. Does anyone here want to fail the assessment again and return home in defeat?”
Teer's words had some effect. The previously panicked crowd quieted down a bit. The middle-aged man who had been pounding on the window stopped, but a crack had already appeared on the glass, and as time passed, even without further attack, the crack grew larger and larger!
At that moment, the plane suddenly jerked violently, hung in the air briefly, then started plummeting quickly. Song Jian sensed a giant eagle soaring in the sky; the creature that had been attacking the plane was indeed this eagle-like entity.
In his mind's eye, seeing the eagle looking down with a smug and malicious gaze at their plane enveloped in thick smoke and falling rapidly, Song Jian's eyes snapped open, his face showing shock: “Alien Clan!”
