Chapter 1259: Chapter 1261 Backyard Chapter 1259: Chapter 1261 Backyard “It's simply unbelievable!”
Song Jian picked up all the spoils of battle and took the Purple Crystal in his hand to admire closely.
This was the second place he had encountered where monsters could drop Purple Crystals. It's worth noting that Purple Crystals are scarce even within the Imperial Sword Sect and are never enough to satisfy demand. They appear in the Treasure Pavilion only periodically and require a large amount of Contribution Points to exchange for.
Monsters that drop Purple Crystals are extremely rare in the game, existing only in very special areas!
Looking up at Zhenmo Temple, Song Jian had not expected to find such a special area here; the discovery invigorated his spirits. With Purple Crystals, not only could he quickly enhance his level and strength, but he could also purchase treasures that could not be bought with Doomsday Coins. For Song Jian, there could never be too many Purple Crystals.
After storing the Purple Crystal in his inventory, Song Jian looked at Zhenmo Temple and was momentarily tempted to raze it to the ground using the Thousand Swords Art. He knew that inside the Zhenmo Temple, there would certainly be no shortage of monsters like the Demon Bone Monk. How many Purple Crystals would he gain if he could eliminate all the monsters here? The very thought was staggering!
However, Song Jian's mission required him to enter the temple to find Master Yiwen. If he dared to do such a thing, even if he destroyed the entire Zhenmo Temple, Master Yiwen would probably die here, resulting in mission failure!
Though the mission did not specify what the penalty for failure was, Song Jian always had a dangerous feeling and dared not let the mission fail. After all, the young girl had forced him to come here, certainly not for him to level up quickly.
At this thought, Song Jian suddenly realized that he must not let the Purple Crystals blind him. He had to explore carefully, or a careless move could lead to the girl from the town damning him to death here.
“Descendants of the Ancient Desolate Demon God, how could they appear here? That girl must have some unspeakable purpose!” Song Jian thought to himself.
With so little information available at present, the situation at Zhenmo Temple also required further investigation! Master Yiwen was key, and finding him would likely solve many problems!
With these thoughts in mind, Song Jian glanced at the corpse of the Bone Demon Monk, now beginning to be covered with transparent flames, and continued to walk up the stone steps.
Along the way, the silence was unusually deep, with not even the sound of insects or birds–strange for a forested area, which should be teeming with small animals. The eerie quiet alerted Song Jian to heighten his vigilance even more.
After about fifteen minutes, Song Jian arrived at the rear mountain gate of Zhenmo Temple, which was tightly shut. Surrounding Zhenmo Temple was a wall with a broad stone path alongside it, which could lead around to the temple's main gate.
Entering through the main gate seemed like a poor decision. Although the gate stood wide open and was unguarded, the two black lanterns hanging there gave Song Jian a dangerous feeling.
Song Jian had a vague sense that if he tried to enter through the main gate, he would be immediately noticed by people inside. There had to be some sort of sentry mechanisms or barriers near the gate. He could even faintly sense a weak power of an array spreading from within the walls of Zhenmo Temple.
Song Jian wanted to try pushing the rear mountain gate open. Just as his palm was about to touch the wooden gate, he suddenly felt a chill at the nape of his neck and stopped immediately, slowly withdrawing his hand.
The closed wooden gate also gave Song Jian a dangerous feeling, as if touching it would cause some misfortune to occur.
After thinking for a while, Song Jian decided to find another way to sneak into Zhenmo Temple. His ability to fly was sealed here, preventing him from using the Flame Light Wings to enter the temple. Instead, he would have to see if there was a safer way to get in by walking around the surrounding wall.
After leaving the back door, Song Jian started to walk around the temple's perimeter wall. After walking a distance along the wall, which was more than three meters high, Song Jian suddenly spotted a dog hole amid the overgrown weeds at the base of the wall. It appeared as if some animal had dug it out at the foot of the wall, and there were some obvious claw marks next to it.
Song Jian hesitated for a moment and thought about it for a long time, but eventually decided not to crawl through the dog hole. Just then, he suddenly heard a faint voice coming from the hole.
“Kill… kill me, please, please I beg of you, just kill me…”
The voice was extremely weak, as if it was about to breathe its last.
“Kill you? That's impossible. Before entering the Reincarnation Pool, you cannot die. Hee hee hee, the Demon Lord needs fresh souls!”
“Tender flesh and blood, hiss, even if we tear off an arm, he should not be able to die, right?”
“Get your claws off, this is nourishment for the Reincarnation Pool. If he dies, be careful or the Demon Lord may tear your soul apart…”
Noisy voices came through, and Song Jian hesitated for a moment, then with a light jump, hooked his fingers into the crevices of the wall, and slowly climbed up. At this moment, he was clinging to the outside of the wall, with only half his head peeking over.
After getting a clear view of the scene before him, Song Jian's pupils shrank, and he instinctively pulled his head back, hiding behind the wall again.
The scene beyond the wall was somewhat horrifying, but it was not the scene that frightened Song Jian–it was the excessive number of creatures similar to the Demon Bone Monks behind the wall.
Behind the wall was a spacious courtyard, with over a hundred individuals bustling about. All of these individuals were dressed in gray monk robes and were busy on the open ground.
Like the Demon Bone Monks Song Jian had encountered before, dark red scars on their heads faintly glowed red. However, unlike the previous Demon Bone Monks with only one scar, these monks in the courtyard mostly had two or three scars, and some even had four or even five!
At the same time, these monks also had higher levels than the previous Demon Bone Monks. Even the lowest level Demon Bone Monk was over eighty in level, and there were many more at the level of skeletons.
Song Jian didn't want to stir up trouble and didn't use the Eye of Insight to check the attributes of these monks, but based on his experience, he could tell that the strength of these monks filled the courtyard was significantly higher than the previous Demon Bone Monks.
Among these monks were several large iron cages, which held over a hundred terror-stricken, trembling individuals–a mix of men and women, and even teenage children were present, but not a single elderly person was to be found.
It seemed as though they had already gone through some harrowing ordeal. Each one of them was huddled up, not daring to make any noise, let alone cry out loud or plead. Some women were tightly covering their mouths, tears streaming down their faces, but they dared not make a sound.
They must have seen something utterly terrifying to have been scared into such a state. Now, they were like a flock of lambs awaiting slaughter, not knowing when death would descend upon them.
