Chapter 1059: Chapter 1061: Watching the Play_1 Chapter 1059: Chapter 1061: Watching the Play_1 Kan War blocked Billy's two teammates, and as they hesitated, a scream came from behind Kan War. Song Jian seemed to not care at all whether Billy's two opponents would attack him. Even if Kan War hadn't jumped out, he wouldn't have glanced back; instead, he swung his longsword viciously down on Billy.
It's better to break one of his fingers than to injure all ten. In Song Jian's eyes, Billy was already a dead man, and he definitively wouldn't give him any chance.
Having killed Billy, Song Jian was surprised to discover that his opponent had actually dropped a gold-quality ring–the Assassin's Ring of Defense, which provided a defense level +2, reduced incoming damage by 10%, and also increased agility by fifteen points and stamina by ten points. For a thief, the attributes of this ring were average; Billy must have valued the added agility and stamina. However, if it were worn by a defender, this ring would be top-notch.
After checking the properties, Song Jian indifferently tossed the ring to Kan War. With a required equipment level of seventy-three, he couldn't wear it now anyway, and the ring's attributes were nothing compared to the two rings he was currently wearing–worth at most, a few hundred thousand Doomsday Coins.
Kan War gave Billy's two teammates a contemptuous glance, snatched the tossed ring, and after looking at its properties, a surprised smile appeared on his face.
“Thanks!” Kan War called out loudly, without any attempt to hide as he put the ring on, even flaunting it to Billy's two teammates.
“Young Master Xi Lin, we were hired by you. Our companion has been killed just like that–are you not going to say something?” one of Billy's teammates shouted darkly at Xi Lin, who was standing in the distance.
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a burst of laughter broke out around them. The other adventurers hadn't taken part in the fight, but they had witnessed the entire process.
These few people had tried to steal a chicken only to end up losing their rice, and now they even expected to save face through the son of a Count–their shamelessness knew no bounds.
Sulrus knew that the reputation of the two would likely go down in flames. Now, because of the Slaughter Light Curtain, they couldn't leave the Scorching Gorge and considering Song Jian's strength, which had surpassed their expectations, with Billy dead, if no one helped them, they probably wouldn't make it out alive.
“This whole thing was entirely Billy's own decision. He's dead now, and I hope that can be the end to it…” Sulrus hastily added.
Xi Lin glanced at Sulrus and his companion. Although they were with Billy and had not taken action, it was only because they hadn't had the chance. By the time they thought to do something, they had been stopped by Kan War. But from the outcome, what Sulrus said wasn't wrong.
Xi Lin looked towards Tugu Man beside him. Tugu Man's brows furrowed deeply; with a meaningful gaze, he scrutinized Song Jian up and down before calling out loudly, “Since you are hired by us, I hope you can follow the rules. Otherwise, it will affect your credibility rating. If something like this happens again, you'll bear the consequences!”
Tugu Man's words seemed somewhat biased towards Sulrus and his teammate, which Song Jian found somewhat dissatisfying. However, after the fight, his Dark Gold Quality longsword had suffered even more damage, and its durability was now a mere three points. If he continued to fight, this sword might well be destroyed.
“Brother, we are in a dangerous place now. Those two can still serve as fodder; how about we let them go for now?” Kan War whispered.
Song Jian hesitated for a moment and then nodded, sheathing his longsword.
Seeing this, Sulrus and his companion exchanged glances and simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief, but the look in their eyes as they watched Song Jian's retreating back grew even more hostile.
Tugu Man saw this and a sinister smile flickered at the corner of his mouth before quickly disappearing. Too much unity in the team could hinder his plans to come; the current situation, with underlying animosity between them, was better, as it made it difficult for them to work together sincerely in the future.
The group remained in place, having left their tents, lanterns, and some supplies outside the gorge. Aside from some food and water, adventurers didn't have any other items with them; they didn't have the inventory space of the god's favored. Each time they ventured out, the supplies they could carry were limited. Thus, they could only sit on the ground and wait patiently for the Slaughter Light Curtain to disappear.
Just then, a series of roars from wild beasts suddenly echoed in the distance, changing everyone's complexion. They all scrambled to their feet, staring into the distance with tense faces.
“We can't stay in the same place for too long, or else it will attract a large number of monsters to attack us!” Tugu Man shouted, “Now, we should unite and continue to explore deeper into the gorge. We might be able to avoid those monsters…”
Tugu Man's words caused some disturbance. Some people agreed with his view, but many more were disdainful. They were only at the entrance of the gorge. Venturing further in would mean they certainly would encounter increasingly powerful monsters, and the danger would rise significantly.
After Tugu Man shouted a few more phrases and saw that there were few respondents, his expression grew darker. He snorted coldly and stopped talking, but in his heart, he thought, “Fools, in a while, you will probably be crying and begging to go deeper into Scorching Gorge…”
Soon, a monster even more terrifying than the Lightning Beast appeared before them. It was a level ninety-eight Fire Flame Rhino, with a massive body resembling a small hill. Its body surface burned with raging flames, and it had a flexible and agile trunk. The ridge of its nose sported a spiral horn similar to a rhinoceros horn.
This Fire Flame Rhino also seemed to have been through a tough fight; its body surface had several wounds, oozing with fresh, red blood. This blood was like magma, forming small flames where it dropped to the ground, burning fiercely for a long time without subsiding.
Upon seeing the Fire Flame Rhino, everyone's hearts tightened, and even Kan War had an ugly expression on his face. The Fire Flame Rhino was one of the most troublesome creatures in Scorching Gorge. Usually, only one could be found in a region, and even monsters of higher rank than it were reluctant to provoke it lightly. Once it went berserk, its massive body would become its best weapon, and no one dared to confront it head-on.
“Damn it, how did we attract it over…” someone muttered curses under their breath.
“If we continue to stay here, the monsters that appear later will become more and more powerful!” Tugu Man glanced at the people around him and said softly.
For a moment, almost everyone's thoughts began to waver. If they continued to hold their ground here, it might be just as Tugu Man said–a growing number of formidable bosses might appear, and they truly might not live to see the morning sun.
All eyes then turned to Kan War and Song Jian, hoping to coordinate as they had before and kill the boss.
But Kan War looked troubled, while Song Jian was completely unperturbed, showing everyone his already damaged long sword, and withdrawing to the side, preparing to be an inconspicuous bystander.
At this, everyone's faces soured. Previously, Billy and others had fought over Song Jian's spoils of battle while everyone else watched. Now, Song Jian was unwilling to take the lead for them, standing aside with a cold demeanor, ready to watch their plight. After all, Song Jian, with his ability to fly, could always escape if he couldn't defeat the beast. But for the others, facing the Fire Flame Rhino and thinking of running away would mean at least two-thirds of them would perish.
At that moment, Tugu Man's brow furrowed. If two-thirds needed to die for some to escape, it would be unfavorable for his subsequent plans–they had to stay alive to reach their destination!
After hesitating for a long time, Tugu Man slowly walked towards Song Jian.
