Chapter 1023: Chapter 1025: Disappearance_1 Chapter 1023: Chapter 1025: Disappearance_1 “`
“Has he disappeared, were we able to drive him away?” someone squinted, looking toward the still unoccupied ruins of Doomsday City in the distance.
“Maybe, even if he's immensely powerful, facing so many Magic Crystal Railguns, he's probably been forced to retreat for now…” another person's lips curled into a smile.
“Activate all detection methods, search for that guy's location!” Wang Qi's face remained grave, looking at the big pit in the distance, he knew that the Magic Crystal Railguns of the City of Hope hadn't caused any harm to the Mage, they'd only killed a few of his summons.
Just then, from the direction of the City Lord Mansion, suddenly came a low roar, and the ground began to tremble slightly as if something was rising from beneath.
“It's Alex, that guy's attacking the City Lord Mansion!” Wang Qi immediately realized, shouting loudly.
Everyone was shocked, they hadn't expected the Mage to have already reached the City Lord Mansion, already engaged in bloody combat with the mansion's defense, the blood servant treant, Devil Vine.
City of Hope, City Lord Mansion!
Almost all blood servants were running toward the direction of the City Lord Mansion. The blood servant treant, Devil Vine, Alex, had already stood up from the Spirit Field, its thick roots congealed into two stout legs, branches into two strong arms, and on its body, a Devil Vine tougher than reinforced steel served as its weapon, brandishing it fiercely at a shadowy figure in mid-air.
“It's truly amazing that someone, no, this is some sort of peculiar creature, has discovered my presence…” a hoarse voice resounded in mid-air.
The shadowy fog churned, condensing into a figure in a black robe in mid-air, a Bone Wand in hand, viciously pointed at Alex, when suddenly a black bolt of lightning, like a long arrow, shot toward Alex.
Boom~
The Devil Vine traced an arc in the air, viciously lashing onto the black lightning; after a thunderous noise, the Devil Vine let out a sharp scream, and green sap splattered through the air, clearly having sustained severe damage from the strike.
The injury to the Devil Vine seemed to enrage Alex, as its right hand swung at the shadowy figure, the Mage, in mid-air. Its originally stout arm instantaneously split apart, transforming into dozens of whip-like tendrils the thickness of a human arm.
“Cover the Heavens!” A roar erupted from Alex's body. The dozens of tendrils shooting toward the shadowy figure instantly spread out like a spider's web, completely enveloping the Mage.
At the same time, clouds of green poisonous fog began to emanate from the tendrils, engulfing the entire area, with countless tiny branches piercing into the Mage's body, draining life force while continuously releasing corrosive energy.
“This is really…” The Mage, looking at the dense mass of branches piercing into his body, a dry face revealing an odd smile: “A novel experience, your attack makes me feel like I'm still alive!”
“It's an experience I'm rather reluctant to give up…” The Mage even let down his defenses, allowing more branches to pierce into his body, and soon he resembled a porcupine, covered in wooden spikes.
Alex desperately tried to absorb the life energy within the Mage's body, but no matter how hard it tried, no trace of life energy flowed out.
Quickly, all the wooden spikes piercing into the Mage were tinged with a faint grey, the color spreading rapidly along the spikes toward Alex's branches.
The grey energy kept corroding the branches spread out by Alex, and soon it threatened to reach its core.
This made Alex feel threatened, and a thunderous cracking sounded through the air.
“Bang, bang, bang…”
“`
As if steel rebar had snapped, all the branches disconnected from Alex's core in an instant, leaving only a bare stub where his once robust right hand had been.
The tree branches, eroded by the gray energy in midair, seemed to develop a consciousness of their own, coalescing and intertwining, forming a tree creature more than two meters tall, radiating an aura of undead gray.
“Hmm, quite a quick response…” Sosmya glanced at the newly born undead tree creature before him and said to Alex.
Even with the Devil Vine, Alex had only the strength of a peak first-order combatant, no match for Sosmya.
This bolstered Sosmya's confidence in obtaining the fragments of divinity even further.
Soon, Sosmya sensed the city's guards starting to converge on the City Lord Mansion, his expression shifted as he shook his head and said, “Playtime is over. Shouldn't the master of this castle make an appearance now? If you willingly hand over the divine fragments and save me the trouble, I might allow you to continue ruling this city!”
“Of course, that would be as an undead creature supervising the grand cemetery for me,” Sosmya added in his mind.
Just then, the bloodthirsty, poison tree suddenly let out a roar, swinging its unharmed left arm like a giant axe, striking at Sosmya.
In an instant, the robust left arm transformed into a giant dragon tens of meters long, bearing down on Sosmya's head.
A deep howling sound erupted, the sonic boom causing people even hundreds of meters away to feel dizzy and disoriented.
Sosmya's expression changed, and his body instantly turned into a cloud of black mist again, Alex's left arm piercing through the mist, tearing it apart with its powerful force.
Boom~
A loud noise followed; Alex's left arm had struck down hard onto the street near the City Lord Mansion, leaving a huge crack tens of meters long on the ground, grinding the bricks into rubble, and shattering the glass windows of nearby shops into fine dust in an instant.
The dispersed black mist tumbled in the air for a long time before it finally came together again, taking the human form of Sosmya once more.
Now, Sosmya bore a wound over a foot long on his left arm, slowly emitting a faint green aura.
No blood flowed from the wound. Instead, green patterns, like tiny branches, radiated from it, slowly spreading outward.
“Interesting, your attack contains the force of space…” Sosmya's inner fury blazed, yet a hint of a smile appeared on his face.
A gray undead aura began to seep from his body, and a series of low, eerie chants echoed above the City Lord Mansion. Sosmya was ready to unleash the Undead Catastrophe directly, intending to destroy the Mansion utterly and infect every person in the city with the Catastrophe's plague, turning them into undead beings.
But at that moment, Sosmya's actions suddenly froze. He realized the divine fragment, which he had felt within his senses all along, had vanished abruptly, as if the previous sensation was nothing but an illusion.
“How, how can this be…” Stunned, Sosmya's face showed his astonishment as he turned his head toward where the divine fragment had disappeared.
