Chapter 1021: Chapter 1023: Threat_1 Chapter 1021: Chapter 1023: Threat_1 These Skeleton Lords posed no threat to Sosmia; rather, they were gifts delivered to his doorstep! One must realize that even as a powerful Necromancer, without materials, it was impossible to summon undead creatures from thin air.
This was why mighty Necromancers always strived to cultivate their very own grand necropolis, much like Elemental Mages, who at a certain level, would begin constructing their own Mage Towers.
Sosmia's grand necropolis had not yet been constructed because in this world, rashly building one would attract too much attention and could lead to a manhunt by all of humanity. After all, the establishment of a grand necropolis required at least the skeletons of over one hundred thousand people.
However, due to a fortuitous coincidence, Sosmia had carved out an undead space similar to a Semi-dimensional Plane. Although this space occupied a large part of his Mental Strength limit, its utility was immense.
Facing the assault of a dozen Skeleton Lords, Sosmia showed no panic; instead, he calmly began to cast Enslavement Contracts.
Under the protective light of the Magic Staff, Sosmia forcibly signed master-servant contracts with each Skeleton Lord. Although together they could pose a threat to him, individually they were no match for this Necromancer at the pinnacle of second-tier Combat Power, hence, the contracts were signed very smoothly.
However, the price for successfully signing these contracts was the complete depletion of the mana stored within his staff, rendering him unable to instantly cast any of the nine kinds of undead magic stored in his staff for the next twelve hours.
“This place truly is my lucky ground!” Sosmia said with a smile on his face as he looked at the mighty ten-meter-tall Skeleton Lords, continuing to explore into the Black Mist.
In the basement of the City Lord Mansion, Song Jian continuously eroded the fragment of godly relic with his Mental Strength, while Wang Qi and the others waited patiently in the mansion.
They could not sense the fluctuations of the godly relic, but they all knew that Song Jian had gone to take the second-tier Combat Power assessment. Seeing that he had gone into seclusion as soon as he returned, they assumed he had passed the assessment and greatly increased his strength, now acclimating to the powerful forces, so everyone waited without showing any signs of impatience but rather conversed with each other in relaxation.
Just then, a man in a white robe suddenly showed a hint of change in his expression, looking a little anxious as he took out a palm-sized crystal ball from his inventory and began chanting spells into it.
This man was named Liu Zihao, the person in charge of the Astrology Tower in the City of Hope. Among the administrators, he ranked towards the end, but his abilities were not to be underestimated.
As Liu Zihao suddenly began to cast spells, all the administrators stopped their conversation and turned their attention towards him.
Liu Zihao, an Epic-class professional Divination Master, didn't possess much offensive power, but he excelled at using divination to foresee threats or profitable occurrences in his surroundings.
“Seer, have you discovered something again?” a man of similar age to Liu Zihao curiously asked after he finished casting his spell.
“I feel a powerful threat…” Liu Zihao said softly.
The fact that he had sensed it meant the threat was not far from them. All were startled, those who felt invincible within Doomsday City gathered around, eager to peer into the crystal ball and see what could be deemed a great threat by Liu Zihao.
“At this point, there can't be many things left that pose a serious threat to us, right?” one of the administrators said with a laugh.
“Unless that Ancient Red Dragon from before pays us another visit. But then again, what level of strength does that Red Dragon possess? It's completely unfathomable!”
“Unfathomable? Hmph, I think you all didn't even dare to take a good look. I estimate it's at least a peak third-tier Combat Power, if not a Legendary Level Giant Dragon. Otherwise, how could it have released such overwhelming Dragon Might?”
“Exactly, I also think it's likely Legendary Level. I feel like just one breath of its Dragon Breath could annihilate our city!”
“Stop talking and pay attention, Liu Zihao does have a knack for divination…”
Everyone watched silently as white mist began to tumble within the crystal ball held in Liu Zihao's hands. Soon after, the mist turned black, and in less than a moment, the entire crystal ball was filled with thick black mist.
After watching for a long time, the scene inside the crystal ball remained unchanged; aside from the rolling black mist, nothing else could be seen.
“What is this? A huge threat is just a mass of black mist?” Finally, someone couldn't help but speak out.
“Could it be some sort of monster that can control the black mist?” someone guessed.
“Hey, doesn't it kind of look like the Protection Black Mist outside the city?” someone suddenly exclaimed.
All were taken aback and looked closely, indeed, the swirling black mist inside the crystal ball did resemble the Protection Black Mist surrounding Doomsday City.
“Could it be that the Protection Black Mist has undergone some mutation and is now threatening us?”
“Impossible. The Protection Black Mist is merely one of Doomsday City's original defense mechanisms, an inanimate object. To date, we haven't occupied the entirety of Doomsday City or fully controlled the Protection Black Mist. How could it possibly threaten us?”
“I think we should close the Black Mist Passage for now, just in case it's coming through there?”
After the establishment of City of Hope, only one road through the black mist was opened. This was also because a part of City of Hope bordered the Protection Black Mist; otherwise, the system wouldn't have allowed City of Hope to have such a path.
As the Vice City Lord, Wang Qi naturally had the authority to open and close the Black Mist Passage at any time. After some operations, he closed the entire passage. The ten-meter-wide road was quickly overtaken by the black mist.
However, this did nothing to diminish the sense of threat in Liu Zihao's heart; the crystal ball remained engulfed in dense black mist.
“If it's not the Black Mist Passage, then what is it?”
“Could it be that someone is able to pass through the Protection Black Mist?” someone cried out in surprise.
To all the administrators, the idea of an entity capable of crossing the black mist was nearly unthinkable, because the Protection Black Mist was incredibly powerful. Not only was it expansive, but it also suppressed perception. If one were to walk a few dozen meters inside, they would completely lose their way. Moreover, the mist was filled with a corrosive aura, and the area was guarded by countless indescribably powerful bosses–how could anyone possibly traverse through the black mist?
“Look, there seems to be a figure in the black mist!” someone pointed at the crystal ball and shouted.
Everyone looked towards the crystal ball, and sure enough, there appeared to be a figure clad in a long black robe, face concealed within a hood, holding a bone wand, and slowly making his way through the dense black mist.
Suddenly, the figure stopped walking, as if he had sensed someone watching. Slowly, he lowered his hood, revealing a pair of crimson eyes that looked up into the emptiness. To those watching, it seemed as though he was looking back at them through the crystal ball.
“Interesting…” Sosmya's dry cheeks revealed a trace of a smile. He hadn't expected that someone would be able to spy on him while he was amidst the black mist. It seemed that acquiring the shard of divinity was going to require some effort after all.
