Chapter 1276: Chapter 1277: A Mess Chapter 1276: Chapter 1277: A Mess Wuyuzi felt as if the sky had collapsed; the pupils of all the Buddhist Sect's resident monks quaked, their minds buzzing as they felt their small worlds crumbling. Despite multiple attempts, the Buddhist Pagoda remained unresponsive. The reason was self-evident, and although the specifics were unclear, the outcome was obvious–the Power of Faith within the Buddhist Pagoda was gone!
“The Power of Faith in the Buddhist Pagoda has dissipated–how could this be?”
“Could it be that the Blood Demon Sect has already extended its reach inside the pagoda?”
Elder Wuyan furrowed his brows tightly as he spoke.
“Let's go and see!”
Wuyuzi stretched out his hand, and a Spiritual Power Vortex slowly emerged at the entrance below the Buddhist Pagoda. The halo stabilized the inner space, and a group of monks stepped in without hesitation.
The first floor was just past the corridor.
But as soon as they entered, all the cultivators were stupefied.
Inside the Buddhist Pagoda, it was utterly empty; not only had the imprisoned cultivators vanished without a trace, but even the Buddhist Sect's monk guards were nowhere to be seen–the first floor was completely emptied!
“What's going on here? Wasn't everything normal last time I came? What could have gone wrong?”
“Let's check the upper floors!”
Veins throbbed at Wuyuzi's temples, his sense of the situation even more acute–it was one thing for the cultivators to be missing, but the crucial point was the scary thinness of the Power of Faith on the first floor, almost as if it were virtually non-existent.
They hurried to the second floor, which was where the Earth Immortal Realm cultivators were held.
It was just as empty as the first floor; not a soul in sight.
The third floor housed the Heavenly Immortal Realm cultivators.
Again, utterly empty.
On the fourth floor, not a single Half-Saint Strong Expert was present.
There was no need to say more about the floors above; both Yitilou and Xiao Lao Di, the two Saint Realm experts, had already escaped long ago!
“They're all gone, just like those two before, all without exception have fled; there must be a great secret hidden within the Buddhist Pagoda!”
“And the Power of Faith is gone too!”
“This is not the work of a day or night; the Blood Demon Sect has long been plotting against our Buddhist Sect, and the infiltration began long ago. Could it be that those two revered elders were taken out by the Blood Demon Sect?”
A look of horror emerged in the monks' eyes–the Power of Faith within the pagoda had completely dissipated, something that could not have happened overnight.
Wuyuzi seemed to have thought of something, and went straight to the highest point of the Buddhist Pagoda, which was the eyes of the Buddha. A golden light emanated from his body, spreading over the ground and walls, searching meticulously for any sign.
Moments later, he opened his eyes and arrived at a rift full of gorges. There, a Five-colored Altar lay quietly with several pieces of top-grade Immortal Stones scattered upon it. The slight abnormal fluctuation he had sensed earlier originated from here.
Previously, when Yitilou and Yan Zuzi mysteriously disappeared, due to the watchfulness of various parties, he dared not enter himself, only sending his subordinates to investigate–but they found nothing. It turned out the problem was here all along; if he had personally come earlier, perhaps the outcome would not have been so simple.
“This is… an altar used to communicate between realms!”
“So that's how it is, using the altar to slip into our Buddhist Sect unnoticed and then systematically transfer out the cultivators batch by batch. What a cunning strategy indeed!”
Wuyuzi felt like his lungs were about to explode with rage.
“But how did the Blood Demon Sect manage to place the altar there in the first place?”
The monk Wuyan was very puzzled.
“This old monk remembers that among the multitude of cultivators you brought back from the great grave, there was one who was an Elder of the Blood Demon Sect, that cultivator named Blood Soul who was of the Heavenly Immortal Realm. If the Blood Demon Sect has ways to resist the assault of the Power of Faith, then it logically follows that he could also rely on that Magic Treasure to lead people out, right up to the highest floor!”
Wuyuzi's face twisted fiercely as he squeezed out a few words through clenched teeth.
“Master Abbot, we've found something over here!”
Elsewhere, the Abbots discovered a pile of ashes on the ground, with some chicken feathers pressed beneath it. They picked one up and brought it to their nose for a sniff, then immediately declared, “This is Huazi's scent, the ashes left after Huazi burned!”
Similar ashes were discovered on other floors as well, and all were the byproducts of Huazi being burned. The case was cracked; it was all because of this treasure named Huazi, whose burning scent extinguished the Power of Faith within the Buddhist Pagoda.
“These feathers look familiar, aren't they from that little yellow chicken that follows Xueyuan around?”
Bobozi and Huyan recognized the origin of the feather. There was no need to ask; this was the work of the Blood Demon Sect!
“Nowadays, in our Buddhist Sect, there might be few who will obey us. Should we perhaps consider taking some countermeasures?”
The Abbots began to consider retiring; if the Sect Disciples still carried even a residual Power of Faith within them, even if they regained consciousness, they could still use a cascading method to quickly convert the entire Mainland. Statistics have been made in the past; if one person converts two monks, and then these two monks each convert two more, the conversion would ripple outward. If each person only needed to convert two other cultivators, by the twentieth iteration, the total number converted would reach a staggering two million, which is a classic maneuver of the Buddhist Sect to control everything.
But now, nearly everyone's Power of Faith has been depleted, and even if a batch of cultivators were converted, it would make no difference–without the Power of Faith, they lose the ability to chant the Six Syllable Mantra, so what of their ability to convert others?
“Do not panic. Let us wait for a decision from our Abbot elder brother!”
Wuyan said in a solemn voice, all the Abbots from various monasteries were still with them, representing the core strength of the Buddhist Sect. With this force intact, a resurgence was still possible!
“Currently, there are many cultivators on the Western Continent. Even if some start to flee, it is merely a minor loss. Regardless of whether their hearts are still with the Buddhist Sect or not, all must be kept here, controlled, and not allowed to escape. They shall remain and cultivate in the Western Continent!”
“Moreover, the cultivators of the Immortal Realm in all three realms should temporarily be set aside. Let's convert all the Semi-Saints first; they are the pillars of our Sect and cannot be lost or discarded!”
“As for the rest, we will discuss it later!”
Wuyuzi, after pondering for a moment, immediately spoke up. The incident had already happened–any further anger would only show impotence. The priority was to figure out a response to minimize the losses, which was what he ought to do.
“Understood, this monk will get to it now!”
Upon receiving instructions from Wuyuzi, the monks found their backbone and took their leave, each heading to their own monasteries to convert the strong.
It was an act of necessity; the Buddhist Sect no longer possessed anything capable of generating the Power of Faith. The last of it was stored within these abbots and monks, which had to be used primarily on the powerful to pull the high-realm cultivators back into the fold of their Sect.
As for the cultivators of the three realms of Immortals, their fate would be assessed based on the situation. If there was spare capacity, naturally more would be converted; if there was no spare capacity, then they would simply have to be detained by force.
In short, whether or not you hold sincere faith in the Buddhist Sect in your heart, from now on it is impossible for you to leave!
After all, a great power cannot be supported by just one or two strong individuals; cultivators are the true foundation of a great power, which must be firmly grasped!
