Chapter 1204: Chapter 1205: Am I Too Strong? Chapter 1204: Chapter 1205: Am I Too Strong? After a brief chat, Li Xiaobai placed the two beasts back into the small wooden box, shut the door, and pondered for a moment before deciding to go for a stroll in the Scripture Pavilion.
There were still three days until Meng Qi faced the trials of the three caves and six chambers, so there was still ample time.
Upon leaving the strangely quiet mountain range, Li Xiaobai summoned a Blood Demon Sect disciple casually.
“Take me to the Scripture Pavilion.”
“Yes, sir!”
The disciple showed immense reverence towards Li Xiaobai, as most of the sect's disciples were already aware that the Blood Fiend Elder had brought back a Saint Realm powerhouse. The influence and the deterrence power of the Blood Demon lineage had soared dramatically within the sect.
Li Xiaobai nodded indifferently, showing neither joy nor sorrow, and followed the disciple towards another ancient city within the sect.
What the Blood Demon Sect did not lack were ancient warships and various grand ancient cities.
“Why are all these warships submerged halfway into the ground? Are they discarded?” Li Xiaobai inquired.
“The elder is not aware, these warships are all dwellings. Sinking them halfway into the ground serves two purposes: one is to suppress evil spirits, and the other is to save space within the sect,” the disciple explained.
These warships were all intact, and housed disciples within. They functioned as residences on ordinary days but turned into indestructible moving fortresses during times of war.
A few minutes later, the two arrived at the base of an ancient city tower. A pagoda towered into the sky, with three big characters written on it: Scripture Pavilion.
This was the place where the Blood Demon Sect stored its scriptures. The sect disciples were coming and going in droves, and the place was packed. Almost every moment, a disciple would enter, and every moment a disciple would emerge with satisfaction, obviously having found a desired cultivation technique or divine skill.
“Sire, this is the Scripture Pavilion. I am merely of the Earth Immortal Realm and can only enter the first two floors. I don't have enough clearance. Please enter by yourself, a responsible steward will take care of you,” the disciple said with a clasped fist and a polite bow before leaving.
To the disciples, Li Xiaobai inspired only a sense of reverence. Until they could figure out his temperament, no one dared to metaphorically hug his thigh indiscriminately, for it could turn out to be a prickly cactus rather than a firm pillar–digging one's own grave.
Within the sect, there was no shortage of eccentric individuals. You could be nice to them, but they could turn around and cut you down in the next second. It was very dangerous to cross someone without winning their favor.
Li Xiaobai looked up at the towering pagoda. It was impressively tall–the tallest structure within the entire city, boasting six luxurious floors of jade and sculptures.
As he walked toward the pagoda, the passing crowd stopped to make way and saluted respectfully. The news of a Saint Realm powerhouse arriving at the sect had spread like wildfire, with even portraits circulating among the disciples.
Being cultivators of the Demon Path, they were especially aware of the dangers of information asymmetry. Failing to obtain information in a timely manner could lead to unknowingly offending a big shot. This was because the information network in the Blood Demon Sect was incredibly fast.
“Greetings, Bald Elder!” the disciples called out.
“Dispense with the formalities, rise. Go about your business,” Li Xiaobai waved his hand and spoke indifferently.
Upon entering the pagoda, an elder with a sweaty brow, who looked rather panicked and uneasy, rushed to greet him.
“I am Jin Renfeng, an elder. Greetings, senior!”
“Skip the formalities. Who is in charge here?” Li Xiaobai asked bluntly after scanning the elder.
“Reporting to the elder, I am responsible for overseeing the Scripture Pavilion. I have already beheld your distinguished self in the Sect Master Hall earlier,” the elder replied very politely. The discussions about him becoming a Supreme Elder in the great hall still echoed in his ears. This was someone who dared to challenge the Sect Master, and he knew better than to provoke him–offending him could mean instant death.
Li Xiaobai understood that this elder was probably only at the Semi-Saint level, a figure who blended in with the crowd in the grand hall, so he hadn't paid much attention to him.
With this realization, Li Xiaobai's demeanor became even more arrogant: “Since you recognize me, then lead the way. Take me to the fifth floor. I want to see for myself the cultivation techniques of your Blood Demon Sect!”
“Yes!”
“This way, sire!” Jin Renfeng bowed and led Li Xiaobai towards a staircase.
Li Xiaobai noticed many young people gritting their teeth as they climbed the stairs, their lips tightly pursed as if enduring some pain.
“Sire, you may not know, but these stairs are laced with Heart Demon Restrictions. Being on them, one's mind will be under assault. The higher you go, the more intense the impact of the Heart Demon attack feels.”
“It serves to train the disciples, and also to prevent any disciples from being too ambitious and sneakily running to higher floors. Without sufficient divine soul strength, trying to cultivate higher level techniques does more harm than good. However, since you stand at the pinnacle of the Cultivation World, there is no need for concern.”
“Please be careful on these steps all the same,” Jin Renfeng spoke, stepping onto the staircase confidently.
Li Xiaobai followed, with his System automatically blocking all kinds of spirit-based attacks, not feeling a thing, and quickly ascended to the second floor. He turned back to glance at the struggling disciples on the original floor and casually remarked, “No way, can it be that someone actually can't even make it up the first floor?”
“Pfft!”
Several disciples trembled upon hearing this, their Spiritual Platforms crumbling, resulting in them spitting out blood and rolling back to the first floor.
Was it really necessary to be so hurtful?
Did they not care about their own dignity?
Ignoring the resentful gaze of the cultivators behind him, Li Xiaobai continued on.
By the time they reached the second floor, the number of people had decreased substantially, but many still struggled earnestly. Li Xiaobai couldn't help but sigh, “When I see these younger cultivators trying so hard, I can't help but feel envious. After all, someone like me, born a prodigy, invincible all the way, has never known what hard work is.”
“The heck…”
The disciples nearby swore internally but dared not show it outwardly. After all, he was the newly appointed elder, and they couldn't afford to offend him.
The third floor had even fewer people. None appeared to be in pain, as the cultivators were all sitting cross-legged in meditation, using the strength of the stairs to temper themselves.
“What's there to temper on the third floor? Go to the fifth!” Li Xiaobai mumbled.
The disciples: “…”
The fourth floor.
This place was reserved for Semi-Saints, and the power of the stairs matched that of the Half-Saint Realm. Many Sect Elders were climbing with beads of sweat on their foreheads. It was clear the stairs weren't too much for them, but reaching the top all at once was unrealistic and needed time.
Li Xiaobai curled his lip in disdain, “Is this it?”
“Is there really any power in these stairs? I don't feel a thing. Is it because I am too strong?”
