This Space Plate was a kind of space inside those rings. It was because of the Array. He only needs to make the array, and his Space Element will work like magic. It also applied to his Simulation Room since he made it with some tweaking from the Space Element.

He also found a similar explanation about space like this from that manual. Now that he read this, he was convinced by the fact that he didn't understand anything about Space Element.
