From Mortal To Immortal: Reign Of The Unyielding Chapter 4: The Sect's Trial

The journey had been long, the air growing colder as Lin Tian ascended the winding path leading to the Taiyan Sect. Towering peaks loomed over him, their jagged edges cutting into the sky like the fangs of some ancient beast. The sect’s entrance was nestled at the foot of a massive cliff, where a series of stone steps carved into the mountain led up to the imposing gates.

Lin Tian could sense the heavy presence of cultivation around him. The very air seemed to hum with spiritual energy, thick and suffocating. It was a place where power was measured in more than just physical strength. Those who could not grasp the flow of energy, who couldn’t learn to harness it, would be crushed beneath the weight of this world.

The Taiyan Sect’s gates were adorned with intricate carvings—ancient symbols that pulsed with power as if the very stones had been enchanted. Standing before the gates, Lin Tian felt a faint ripple of energy, a faint pressure against his skin. This was a place of great strength. The sect’s influence stretched far and wide, and only the strongest could truly enter.

As he approached the entrance, the doors opened with a soft creak, revealing a large courtyard beyond. The sight that greeted Lin Tian was one of stark beauty. Immense stone buildings rose high into the sky, surrounded by lush gardens that seemed to thrive in the otherwise harsh mountain environment. A large, open training ground could be seen in the distance, where groups of young cultivators practiced their martial arts.

The moment Lin Tian stepped into the courtyard, he felt the gaze of the disciples around him—sharp, calculating, appraising. They were not impressed by the sudden arrival of an outsider, not until they saw what he was capable of. This was not a world that cared for the weak. His presence, though notable, would mean nothing until he proved himself.

Before Lin Tian could take a step further into the courtyard, a man in white robes approached. He was tall, his expression cold and commanding. His eyes swept over Lin Tian, sizing him up as if trying to determine his worth with a single glance.

"You there," the man’s voice was deep and commanding, like the rumble of thunder. "State your business."

Lin Tian turned his gaze to the man. He could feel the weight of his aura, the faint trace of cultivation in the air surrounding him. This was a disciple of the Taiyan Sect, though one far more experienced than most.

"I seek to join your sect," Lin Tian answered calmly, his tone unwavering.

The man raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued by Lin Tian’s confidence. "Join the Taiyan Sect?" he repeated, as though tasting the words. "And what makes you think you have the right to enter? This is not a place for weaklings or those with no talent."

Lin Tian’s lips curled into a faint, cold smile. "I don’t need your approval to be here. If I have to prove myself, then I will do so."

The man’s eyes narrowed. "We do not take kindly to arrogance, boy. But if you’re so confident in your abilities, perhaps you would care to demonstrate them." He gestured to the far end of the courtyard, where a group of young disciples had gathered, watching with interest. "If you can defeat any of them in combat, I’ll consider allowing you to participate in the trial."

Lin Tian’s eyes flicked toward the group. They were young, no older than him—probably no more than sixteen or seventeen at most. However, the aura they gave off was not to be underestimated. Cultivators, each one brimming with potential. If they were here, they had already passed rigorous tests and trials. Yet, in Lin Tian’s eyes, they were nothing more than stepping stones.

"Very well," Lin Tian replied, his voice steady. "I’ll show you."

The disciples parted to create an open space in the middle of the courtyard. Lin Tian moved forward, his steps deliberate. His heart didn’t race, nor did his pulse quicken. He had been through far worse, faced more dangerous trials than this. He wasn’t here to impress, but to dominate.

The first disciple to step forward was a young man with dark hair, his eyes burning with the intensity of a martial artist eager to prove his strength. He wielded a long spear, the weapon glinting in the sunlight as he took his stance.

Lin Tian glanced at the spear, then at the disciple. His expression was calm, unshaken by the weapon. This was no different from the countless battles he had fought in his past lives. The techniques might be different, the cultivation methods unfamiliar, but the essence of combat was universal. And Lin Tian had mastered it.

"Begin!" The man in white robes called, stepping aside to watch the fight unfold.

The disciple lunged with surprising speed, his spear flashing toward Lin Tian with a deadly precision. The tip was aimed directly for Lin Tian’s chest, but he moved with an ease that seemed almost inhuman. He sidestepped the strike effortlessly, his body flowing like water, avoiding the spear with a single, graceful motion.

The disciple's eyes widened, but he quickly adjusted, spinning the spear in an arc and striking again. This time, he aimed for Lin Tian’s head.

But once again, Lin Tian evaded the attack. His movements were so fluid, so effortless, that it was as though he was barely even trying. He weaved around the spear’s deadly tip, his body moving with a precision that seemed to defy the laws of physics.

The disciple gritted his teeth, frustration flashing across his face. He was faster now, more aggressive. But Lin Tian’s calm never faltered.

With a sudden motion, Lin Tian’s hand shot out like lightning, grabbing the shaft of the spear mid-strike. He twisted the weapon out of the disciple’s grasp, sending it flying across the courtyard. The disciple, caught off guard, staggered backward, losing his balance.

Lin Tian took the opportunity to strike. He moved in a blur, his fist crashing into the disciple’s abdomen with enough force to knock the wind out of him. The disciple crumpled to the ground, gasping for air, unable to rise.

The courtyard fell silent, the onlookers stunned by the sheer ease with which Lin Tian had dispatched his opponent. The disciple, once so confident, lay on the ground, unable to even get to his feet.

Lin Tian stepped back, his gaze cool as he turned to the man in white robes. "Next."

The man’s expression darkened, his eyes narrowing with a mix of disbelief and admiration. This boy, this outsider—he was different. The way he moved, the power he wielded—he was no ordinary cultivator.

"You…" the man began, but before he could continue, another disciple stepped forward, ready to take on Lin Tian.

But the atmosphere had changed. There was no longer any doubt in anyone’s mind. Lin Tian wasn’t just a hopeful; he was a force to be reckoned with.

The trial had begun, and the Taiyan Sect was about to witness the rise of someone far beyond their expectations.
