From Mortal To Immortal: Reign Of The Unyielding Chapter 10: The Path to Power

The air outside the Sect Leader’s chambers felt cool against Lin Tian’s skin as he stepped back into the courtyard. His mind raced with thoughts of the mission ahead. A rival faction, an encroaching threat… but to Lin Tian, the challenge wasn’t the physical confrontation. The true test was the nature of the order itself.

He had been given a task: eliminate the leader of a rival faction. But what did that mean, really? Was the rival faction truly a threat, or were they simply a pawn in the game of power that the Taiyan Sect played? Lin Tian’s mind was already calculating the best course of action, but he knew that he needed more information before making any rash decisions.

As he prepared to leave the sect and venture into the mountains to confront the rival faction, Lin Tian spent his final hours in the sect’s library. He poured over every piece of information he could find about the rival faction. The more he learned, the more he realized that the situation was far more complicated than it appeared.

The rival sect, the Black Lotus Sect, had been quietly growing in strength. They were not just common bandits or troublemakers. They were cultivators who had mastered a forbidden form of dark energy manipulation, a power that was dangerous even to the Taiyan Sect. But why had they targeted Taiyan Sect? And why had Wei Chang sent him—someone so new and untested—on a mission of such importance?

There was more to this mission than just eliminating a rival. It was a test—a way for Wei Chang to assess Lin Tian’s willingness to follow orders without question. Lin Tian knew that if he wanted to rise to power in the Taiyan Sect, he would have to play the game. The sect’s internal politics were complex, and no one could be trusted, not even the Sect Leader himself.

The next morning, Lin Tian set off alone, traveling through the dense forests and rugged mountains toward the Black Lotus Sect’s territory. His mind remained focused, his eyes sharp as he moved silently through the underbrush. His goal was clear: eliminate the leader of the Black Lotus Sect, but Lin Tian knew that there were deeper currents at play. He wasn’t going to simply follow orders without understanding the full picture.

Upon reaching the Black Lotus Sect’s stronghold, Lin Tian surveyed the area from a distance. The sect was well-fortified, with guards posted around the perimeter. The leader of the sect, a man named Mo Yin, was said to be a formidable cultivator who had mastered the art of shadow manipulation—a technique that was as dangerous as it was elusive.

Lin Tian’s mind raced as he formulated a plan. He had no intention of rushing in blindly. He would learn the truth about Mo Yin and his sect before making any moves. If Mo Yin was truly a threat, he would deal with him swiftly. But if there was more to the situation than met the eye, Lin Tian would need to tread carefully.

As night fell, Lin Tian infiltrated the Black Lotus Sect’s stronghold, his movements like a shadow, his presence almost undetectable. He easily bypassed the guards, his cultivation allowing him to move with incredible speed and precision. He reached the central hall, where Mo Yin was rumored to reside.

What he found inside was not what he had expected.

Mo Yin, the leader of the Black Lotus Sect, was not a tyrant or a power-hungry despot. Instead, he sat in deep meditation, his body surrounded by a faint, eerie glow. His cultivation was indeed impressive—far beyond Lin Tian’s current level—but it was the aura around him that caught Lin Tian’s attention. There was something familiar about it, something that felt almost like… the system.

Before Lin Tian could investigate further, a voice broke through his thoughts. “So, you’ve come.”

Lin Tian turned to see Mo Yin standing before him, his eyes glowing with an unnatural light. “You’re not here to eliminate me, are you?” Mo Yin’s voice was calm, but it carried a weight of experience, of someone who had seen far more than he had ever let on.

Lin Tian’s hand moved instinctively to the hilt of his sword, but he did not draw it. “I was sent by the Taiyan Sect,” Lin Tian replied. “But I need to know the truth. Why have you targeted them?”

Mo Yin chuckled softly. “Targeted them?” He stepped forward, his gaze piercing. “I haven’t targeted anyone. I’ve simply sought to survive. The Taiyan Sect is not what it seems, Lin Tian. They are a web of lies, deceit, and hidden agendas. They do not care about power, not in the way you think.”

Lin Tian’s heart skipped a beat. This wasn’t what he had expected. He had come here ready to fight, to kill if necessary, but now he was faced with a choice: trust the Sect Leader and blindly follow his orders, or consider the possibility that the Taiyan Sect might not be the benevolent force it claimed to be.
