Chapter 969: Chapter 539: Is This Dead Skull Playing With Us? Chapter 969: Chapter 539: Is This Dead Skull Playing With Us? From God-making Warlock Radiad, Anthony had noticed that these fellows from the Sorcerer Alliance all seemed somewhat arrogant. Upon careful analysis, he realized that they had been living life too smoothly.
Driven underground by the Undead King's numerical superiority of the undead, they did not consider themselves defeated, thinking instead, “You just outnumber us.”
Lingering above the Starburst Array, they already stood on invincible ground, devoid of any sense of crisis, and the impregnable Starburst Array instilled in them a feeling of omnipotence.
Thus, aside from the Undead King, they feared no one, eventually developing this conceited attitude. Even knowing it was the God of Life, Radiad still brazenly approached.
In fact, even if Feiti hadn't intervened, Radiad would have been incapable of affecting the God of Life. Let alone his presence on Ange's shoulder now, even had it been a branch of the Life Sacred Pool, Radiad wouldn't have been able to destroy it.
However, now Hayden knew they were the Pope and Great Angel from the Divine Realm and still maintained this demeanor, which, aside from arrogance, had a more significant reason– the Church of Light in this world was terribly weak.
With no gods left and only two Archbishops, who couldn't exercise the will of the gods, these Archbishops were no better than ordinary Wizards, mere charlatans.
Additionally, Hayden happened to be acquainted with one of them and knew his strength, so naturally, he took even less notice of the Pope, a position higher in rank.
What would it matter if the Pope was ten times stronger than an Archbishop?
Unfortunately, what he didn't know was that this Pope, Anthony, had the “God” watching over him, and that very god was right next to him, currently deploying a Spirit Touch that had grabbed him, which was quite awkward.
Hayden paused in surprise, exclaiming, “Leixinna's Spirit Touch?” As the words left his mouth, he suddenly felt a great force pulling him, eager to smash him to the ground.
The moment he was hit for the first time, Hayden's form exploded, dispersing into a cloud of smoke.
Ange's Spirit Touch tentacles also transformed from four into countless fine strands, which suddenly yanked, tearing off a layer of Hayden's smoke.
Hayden grunted, his escape to the ground becoming somewhat frantic.
Having a layer of smoke torn off was akin to a large chunk of his form being chopped off. Although it didn't hurt, the damage to his form was severe. If torn a few more times, only his soul would remain.
Why could Spirit Touch be used in this way? Leixinna's Spirit Touch had only one strand, and being stuck with it would at most tear off a bit of form–no, something was off, very off!
Suddenly, Hayden slammed into the floor, unable to penetrate through the ground with his smoke form.
Regaining his senses, he saw a radiance of divine light emanating from Ange, a beam connecting him and Ange together– the Guardian Barrier.
“This Guardian Barrier is truly exceptional; others use it for defense, but he uses it to capture people, which is so practical,” Negris complained.
Who could have thought, the most practical use of the Guardian Barrier wasn't for protection, but for capturing people? This self-standing Guardian Barrier was a Divine Technique. Once cast, it formed a barrier, simultaneously pulling oneself toward the target.
After the barrier was formed, those outside trying to attack those within had to break the barrier. It wasn't just any ordinary magic shield or defense mechanism; this was a barrier. A defense of this level could only be broken barehanded by freaks like Locke, and that too, by a barrier that had been breezed upon by Resting Wind.
Admittedly, the Guardian Barrier was not as thick as that of the Holy Kingdom, nor as substantial as that of the Master Plane, but it was still a barrier. Its largest flaw was that, upon activation, those outside couldn't attack those inside, and vice versa.
However, when Ange used the barrier to capture someone, this flaw actually turned into an advantage, meaning that to escape, one had to break the barrier.
“A Divine Technique? Who are you?!” Hayden shouted in shock as the smoke instantly condensed into a ball before shaping into a fist that slammed toward Ange.
Anthony exclaimed in alarm, “Black Martial Art Fist, is he a Black Warrior?!”
Ange raised his hand to block, and a shield's phantom image appeared on his hand–Divine Body Descending.
For Ange, this was somewhat superfluous since he himself was a god with Divine Power within him, but there was no helping it. His divine techniques were too peculiar, and he lacked any practical close-range defensive skills, so he had to resort to this method–I descend upon myself.
Hayden recoiled from the impact with the shield and, taking the opportunity, retreated to the other end of the barrier, reaching out to swipe in front of himself.
Suddenly, twelve Arrows of Breath of Death appeared before him.
The still unsettled Hayden revealed a relieved expression, saying, “Actually, aside from the title Void Ghost, I also have another name, Void Cannon. Prepare to be baptized by the cannon… Uh.”
As he spoke, the Arrows of Breath of Death fired one by one at Ange, whom Hayden's gaze had locked onto. Before he could finish his sentence, the first volley had already been fully released, and he quickly readied a second wave.
But immediately, he witnessed a scene so astonishing that it nearly made his eyes burst from their sockets. Ange, too, swept out a row of Holy Light Missiles, exactly twelve of them.
The Holy Light Missiles met each Arrow of Breath of Death in a one-to-one clash, obliterating them. Ange then followed with another sweep of his hand, producing twelve more missiles, once again neutralizing Hayden's second volley.
“How is that possible?!” Hayden screamed in shock, his hands moving together to swipe out a third volley of fourteen Arrows of Breath of Death.
In life, Hayden had been a necromancer with abundant combat experience, notably adept at speed casting, chain casting, and intensive casting. He could unleash a barrage of low-level magic at the enemy within the shortest time, often overwhelming them before they had a chance to react.
After transforming into the Undead, his spiritual power had increased along with his Soul Strength, making his spellcasting even more effortless, whether in terms of frequency or magic power recovery, he had made significant progress.
Now he could sustain a rate of twelve spells per second for a full minute. Such a frequency was comparable to some of the Defense Towers on the Starburst Array, hence his other nickname–Void Cannon.
Yet, the scene before him now shook his soul to its core; his opponent was matching his speed with Holy Light Missiles, countering his Arrows of Breath of Death. How was that possible?
Impossible! Absolutely impossible!
Bringing forth all his potential, Hayden forcefully increased his rate to fourteen arrows, but Ange, watching intently, matched him by also producing the same number of fourteen missiles.
The Holy Light Missiles and Arrows of Breath of Death collided and annihilated each other, the space between them was chaotically distorted by the clashing Holy Light and Breath of Death.
Hayden gritted his teeth, reached into his own form, and pulled out a gemstone, crushing it. Immediately, ten more Arrows of Breath of Death appeared, which, combined with his own casting, totaled twenty-four arrows, all surging towards Ange.
“I refuse to believe your casting speed can beat this!” Hayden shouted angrily.
Outside, Negris watched in disbelief, turning to ask Anthony, “This Dead Skull is joking around, right, just playing with me? How did he also learn my bad taste in humor?!”
