Chapter 968: Chapter 538: It's Not So Easy to Leave Chapter 968: Chapter 538: It's Not So Easy to Leave “So careless? What if we quietly adjust the direction of the mage ladder and fire at him? Is that possible?” Negris asked.
Durken shook his head, “No, it won't work. Not to mention whether the energy reaction of the mage ladder will alert him, even if it doesn't, the weapon of the mage ladder is an oscillation impact, which mainly targets large objects and protection shields. It does little damage to small individual targets and is not very useful. We might as well sneak up on him and then rush out and hit him.”
Feiti, Negris, and Anthony exchanged glances and nodded, “Let's do that.”
The Sorcerer Ladder then slowly moved towards Hayden's position.
Perhaps sensing the Sorcerer Ladder drawing ever closer, Hayden turned his head for another look and his vague face showed a puzzled expression, “I don't need help, I can manage on my own.”
But Hayden's words received no response. The Sorcerer Ladder continued to approach slowly and Hayden immediately realized something was wrong and shouted sharply, “Whose ladder is it?!”
Still no response. Hayden raised his hand and quickly fell back towards his own ladder.
“Kvada, quick on the uptake, let's not wait. Feiti, go!” Inside the second ladder, Negris said annoyed and then queried, “Why is there an undead being in the Twelve Seated? A Void Ghost, could he be an undead?”
Anthony explained, “He is Hayden, a Necromancer, one of the original Twelve Seated. Before his death, he used a special rebirth technique to become undead, the most loyal follower of the Annihilation Warlock.”
As they discussed, Feiti had already burst out from one of the doors of the ladder, with a flash of light following.
Hayden, retreating, looked at that flash and suddenly turned into a puff of smoke, dissipating into the void.
Feiti lunged at nothing, looking around, but could not find Hayden. Meanwhile, the other's Sorcerer Ladder flew swiftly in one direction, widening the gap with Feiti.
“He's escaped, I can't sense him.” After searching for a while and finding no sign of Hayden, Feiti quickly sent a message to Ange and the others.
“No need to search anymore, he is here,” Negris responded irritably.
Inside the second ladder, Hayden slowly moved through the wall, coalescing into a hovering mass, indifferently observing everyone below.
The Sorcerer Ladder has a protection shield that can block the infiltration of undead, but the second one did not; its 'ring' had dispersed, allowing Hayden to easily pass through.
Looking at the people in front of him, Hayden instantly understood what was happening, “The Church of Light? Were you the ones who fixed the ladder on the Eastern Negris Peninsula? Have you actually allied with the Undead Empire?”
Anthony hurriedly denied, “No, no, not at all, it was just a trade, just a trade.”
Two seams representing eyes formed on Hayden's face, staring at Anthony, “I recognize you, Holy Pope Anthony of Light. You're from the Divine Realm, aren't you? I know Truk. Above him, there is no Pope and no God.”
Anthony's heart skipped a beat at Hayden's words, which revealed too much information. He actually knew Truk, the local Archbishop of Light? And he was certain that there was no Pope or God here, meaning he and Truk were not merely acquainted.
While turmoil churned inside, Anthony managed to maintain an impassive facade and asked with feigned embarrassment, “This Divine Realm…?”
He told half, left half unsaid, not even mentioning what's wrong with the Divine Realm.
“The emergence of the God of Life signifies that the Divine Realm is now connected with this place, clearing up many previously unsolvable mysteries,” Hayden continued naturally. “For example, why suddenly two Six-winged Archangels and a Pope appeared, why there's a kind of rape cake that fills one up after just a few bites, why there are so many high-yield crops on the ground. The only possibility is that some world has connected with this one.”
Anthony's heart sank. When he heard about the rape cakes and high-yield crops, he realized that the other party had been paying attention to them for a long time.
A group of people coming from another world couldn't possibly leave no traces; it just depended on whether the other party had the ability to discern them.
Indeed, if it weren't for Ange's Purification, then their greatest trace upon arriving here might have been the plague, a disease they carried that the creatures of this world had never seen before and could easily spread upon infection.
Of course, this possibility had been snuffed out in advance by Ange. Purification spells and a Divine Realm with purifying abilities were equivalent to sterilizing everything.
However, the rape cakes and high-yield crops still exposed their presence; it was impossible for such food that could satisfy hunger in a few bites to emerge out of the blue.
If it were an ordinary power, they might wonder if it was simply something they hadn't discovered before, or perhaps a new variety.
But the Sorcerer Alliance wouldn't think so because they had undoubtedly screened all the food on the ground. After thousands of years of screening, it was impossible for anything to have been missed. If it was one or two things, that might be okay, but what had appeared on the ground now was obviously systematic and structured.
Especially the rape cakes, which reminded them of a legendary bean. If not for the God of Life, they would not have thought of the Divine Realm. But as soon as the God of Life appeared, they immediately thought of this legendary bean–the Elf Beans.
Ange had distributed many rape cakes, and some were left over; those were bought at a high price by the Sorcerer Alliance. Through joint casting of analytic spells, they deciphered an unknown powder within them.
Although they couldn't determine if it was indeed Elf Beans, they could confirm that it was some kind of bean, and from there the conclusion was clear–someone from the Divine Realm had come here.
The twists and turns within were all too clear to Anthony. He immediately realized his identity had been exposed, and they had grasped the key point.
But it doesn't matter. They weren't like when they first arrived, knowing nothing, which was why they kept a low profile. Now, roughly understanding the strength hierarchy of this world's top powerhouses, if it really comes down to it, they might as well be high-profile.
Anthony smiled, “The Divine Realm, the Shepherd of Light, Holy Pope Anthony, at your service, Lord Hayden.”
As he bowed, holy light flowed from him, shaping into a majestic Bishop's battle robe, and he reached out with a virtual grasp in front of him, summoning the Pope Wand to his palm.
Hayden looked at him deeply, and coldly said, “It doesn't matter if you're the Pope of the Divine Realm or kobolds from the gutters, just like the local Church, get out of sight and maybe you'll live longer. Don't say I didn't warn you. Now, leave.”
Having said that, Hayden transformed into a wisp of smoke, slowly drifting outward, and just as he was about to seep through the wall of the Heavenly Ladder, he suddenly felt something tugging at him.
Coming back to his senses, he saw four invisible Spirit Touches extend from Ange's body, sticking to him.
Anthony rubbed his nose, saying awkwardly, “Lord Hayden, it seems you've misunderstood something. We came here to capture you, and yet you've delivered yourself into our hands. Leaving won't be so easy.”
PS: Recovering, still can't sit up for long, so I'll continue to take it easy.
