Chapter 1426: Chapter 987: Talkative, Dead…
Not until they descended upon the Shattered Plane did Negris see anything resembling a hammer: “You say it's like an egg, that I get, but where does it look like a hammer? Where is the hammer?”
Upon landing on the plane, Durken lifted his foot and kicked at the loose soil on the ground, and with a clang, a fist-sized Black Crystal was kicked out.
“Uh?” Everyone was stunned. This was Black Crystal, not just some broken stones. How could he kick out a piece just like that? Could the entire plane be a mine of Black Crystals?
Everyone came to this realization and quickly started digging, soon uncovering a large swath of Black Crystals after clearing away a layer of loose soil.
Negris pried apart some fragments of Black Crystals and couldn't help but frown: “Doesn't it feel like these Black Crystals were smashed by someone? Look, there are radial fractures inside, very much like a whole large Black Crystal was smashed by something and then piled up together.”
Negris's words made Anthony gasp: “Smashed? What could smash Black Crystals?”
“Origin Power, of course. Both the Big Mouth and Dark Origin can smash Black Crystals; what's there to be surprised about?” said Negris.
“This is even more terrifying, you know. It means that the Void Origin is present here. If the Monarch's true body doesn't come, and we encounter Origin Power, we're done for,” Anthony rolled his eyes.
Negris was taken aback. Because of the Abyssal Big Mouth and Dark Origin, he didn't consider the Void Origin to be anything extraordinary.
But Anthony was correct–if an entity of the Abyssal Big Mouth's or Dark Origin's caliber was here, it was indeed more terrifying. They would all be doomed. They should not underestimate the Origin; it was the most supreme existence in the Void.
Void Origin–only entities like Ange who also hail from the Void Origin had the right to be their adversaries. But the problem was Ange's actual body was not here.
“It's all speculation. Void Origin isn't like quick-growing vegetables, how could it be everywhere? Maybe something else smashed it,” Negris tried to reassure.
Anthony continued to roll his eyes: “The more you talk, the scarier it gets. If it's smashed by the Void Origin, so be it, but if something else can also smash Black Crystals, wouldn't that be even scarier? His Majesty has to be careful even after a successful upgrade; he might get smashed one day.”
“Then perhaps it's not smashed; it fractured naturally,” retorted Negris, annoyed.
Anthony shrugged: “You're the one who said it looked smashed.”
As they bickered, Ange made a new discovery and powerfully lunged forward.
Everyone hurriedly followed and soon arrived in front of an extremely straight and deep hole perpendicular to the ground.
“This hole is so straight and deep. Who dug such a perfectly straight hole here?” Negris said.
The hole was about ten meters in diameter, vertical downwards, consistently even in width; one could tell at a glance that it did not form naturally. Even if someone dug with a ruler for guidance, it would be very difficult to achieve such a perfectly straight hole.
Durken observed the edge of the hole and said, “It doesn't look like it was pierced either. If something had pierced into it, the inside would show signs of being squeezed, but there's none of that here.”
While analyzing, everyone entered the hole. The state of the inner walls made Durken's eyes shine with excitement as he exclaimed, “Indentations, look, there are lots of complete indentations on the inner wall.”
“Embossing? Isn't it carved out?” Negris also saw the patterns on the inner wall but obviously couldn't tell if the lines were embossed or carved.
“No, no, no, not carved, definitely embossed. There's no drawing of lines along the pattern. If it were carved, the knife cuts would form marks along the pattern, but these lines are all very smooth and even.” Durken confidently stated.
Then… what could have embossed it? Carrying such a question, everyone proceeded downwards and eventually entered an orderly space.
This was a square space. The hole they had come through was in the middle of the space, with equally sized areas on both sides, square and upright, with only a ramp at the point where two sides met.
Negris looked around and said, “Don't you think this space looks like the inside of a giant hammer mold? It's a bit like something made with the lost-wax casting method. Look how clear the wall patterns are.”
“Yes, the lost-wax casting method. You sculpt a large hammer out of wax, wrap it up, then melt and pour it away, creating a space like this. The hole we came in through is the handle of the hammer and also the wax outlet, which is why the patterns are embossed, not carved.” Durken slapped his thigh, excitedly exclaiming.
Anthony was somewhat shocked: “Such a huge wax mold? How much wax would that need? What was this thing built for?”
“It doesn't necessarily have to be wax, anything that can be poured out without damaging the outer mold will do. With the cold temperatures of the Void, ice could also work.” Durken's line of thought was opened up, and he quickly thought of a better material than wax. The lost-wax casting method is just a name for a type of craftsmanship; it doesn't necessarily involve wax.
By sculpting a giant hammer out of ice, wrapping it with a mold, and then melting the ice, such an orderly internal space could be created.
Suddenly, Ange shook his head.
Negris and the others, who had been enthusiastically discussing the purpose of building such a giant hammer, felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over their souls: “What? Did we guess wrong?”
Ange said: “Hammer smashed, Black Crystal Body shattered, Power of Devour, hammer shrinks.”
Negris took a sharp breath: “Are you saying there really was such a large hammer which smashed a Black Crystal Body and then released the Power of Devour, compressing the shattered Black Crystal Body into a mass, after which the hammer itself shrunk to form this space?”
Ange nodded.
“How is that possible? Do you realize how big this space is? Who could lift such a huge hammer? And to smash a Black Crystal Body? With so many Black Crystals outside, even if you smash a thousand Old Immortals, you couldn't produce so many Black Crystals,” Negris ranted.
Ange tilted his head: “I can.”
“Pff…” Negris spat out a mouthful of old blood. It naturally understood what 'can' meant. Ange's 'I can' was in response to its earlier 'who could lift'.
Upon further thought, if it were Ange after having devoured the Red Giant Ball, it might indeed be possible to wield such a gigantic hammer. Kvada, these are all freaks.
Although Negris blustered a few words, it didn't mean it didn't believe them. Ange usually didn't speak, but once he did, even Anthony Durken and the Monarch wouldn't doubt its accuracy. That's because for Ange, if he wasn't sure about something, he wouldn't bother speaking at all.
Anthony immediately thought of the key point: “The hammer shrunk, so where is the hammer? The pirates have no memory of the hammer, could it still be here?”
Just after Anthony spoke, a faint voice emanated from a corner of the space: “Too much talk, die…”
Following the word 'die,' a hammer, accompanied by a thunderous noise and fine black sparks, smashed out of the dark corner.
