Chapter 1401: Chapter 962: Poisonous! Chapter 1401: Chapter 962: Poisonous! The Mourning Undead Soldiers took a sniff of the Deadman's Fruit and then silently slipped it into their pocket, picking another one and then taking off again to patrol the sky.
After a large circle, confirming that the area was 'safe', the Mourning Undead Soldiers flew back, passing another Mourning Undead without a sound, quickly stuffing the new fruit into their hand, then ascending to the airship, standing guard from above.
A hint of surprise flashed through the lifeless eyes of the other Mourning Undead Soldier as they silently held the Deadman's Fruit, and then, while the four wizards were not paying attention, quickly took it out for a quick glance, and soon spotted something, sniffing it intensely beneath their nose before their eyes lit up.
None of the four wizards noticed the secretive actions of the Mourning Undead Soldiers. They acted like noble scions oblivious to the world around them, happily breathing the fresh air, stretching their bodies, admiring the scenery, picking plants, even setting up magical cookware, and began cooking oil in the pot as if they were on a spring outing camping.
As for safety, it was all left to the two Mourning Undead Soldiers.
These four wizards were not ordinary nobles; one could tell that from their robes alone, which were finely woven and embroidered with exquisite magic patterns with magic metal threads along the edges and magic accessories on their cufflinks, combining practicality with luxury, clearly very valuable.
However, their clumsy appearance revealed their nearly nonexistent ability to fend for themselves, such as adding oil to a pot of unboiled water, causing oil to splatter everywhere, luckily a shield was raised during the process, otherwise, they would have been scalded.
Obviously, these tasks were always performed by maids and servants, but since there were no maids or servants around, they were particularly clumsy when doing it themselves.
After watching for a while, Negris said, “They kind of resemble that somebody, Xiehed, was that his name?”
Years ago in the desert, there were two guys who tried to kill Naeli together, one of them was a particularly luxurious wizard, riding a lavish carriage, with several beautiful maids, even laying out carpets before getting off the carriage.
Later, they ended up killing each other in an internal conflict, and Ange picked up all their carriage equipment, the Dragon Pattern Steel Core Mithril Inlay Magic Rune Covered Earth Forged Gemstone Enhanced Piercing Enchantment Two-handed Sword used by Luther was from them.
These wizards, except for lacking maids beside them, had an almost identical air to Xiehed.
Silver Coin pondered for a moment and said, “You mean they want to hunt dragons, but their family forbade it, so they sneaked out without maids but brought guards?”
“Is that what I meant? Now that you analyze it like this, it does seem likely, yes, that's exactly what I meant.” Negris was initially startled and then smacked his back in realization.
“Hunt dragons? Kill Ogli's family?” the Monarch wondered.
Silver Coin said, “No, hunting dragons is just a metaphor, they initially talked about the Boundless Space Hole, they must be here waiting for the Little Ghost.”
“Several noble scions who can't even cook have been floating in the airship for months to be here for the Little Ghost? Does the Little Ghost have such a big attraction?” Negris was amazed.
Silver Coin nodded, “Yes, Your Majesty once mentioned the Energy Level Great Desert, a desert from which no one has ever crossed, then suddenly one day a caravan walks out, wouldn't you be curious how they crossed this desert?”
“Never has a creature come out from the Boundless Space Hole, yet now a fortress has emerged, probably not just these people, but the entire Friel Empire and the Divine Light Alliance will be curious, there will definitely be more people coming to greet, spectate, and even compete.”
Negris suddenly became anxious, “No, that won't do, the Little Ghost is ours, we can't let them snatch it away.”
But looking at these few noble wizards willing to endure months on an airborne airship, with the air becoming stale just to wait, it is unimaginable how attractive the fortress emerging from the Boundless Space Hole is.
The air inside the airship wasn't always fresh; it relied on an air-cleansing array for circulation, but after many cycles, it would eventually stink and require the addition of fresh air.
If it were just workers, soldiers or adventurers, a bit of stench wouldn't matter much as everyone was already smelly anyway – as long as it wasn't suffocating, all was bearable. But these pampered noble wizards? They had never experienced such discomfort.
The woodland adventures of several noble wizards ended with an indescribable, charred mess. In the end, they had to resort to munching on the dried meat and fruit preserves from their storage accessories.
However, having eaten these provisions for several months – although they included expensive dried meats, fruits, and pastries – one can get tired of the same flavors. After a few bites, the two female wizards began looking around, hoping to pick some fresh fruit to whet their appetites.
“Hey, Bess, have you noticed how tidy these plants are? Could it be someone's plantation?” one of the female wizards suddenly said to her companion.
The one called Bess dramatically slapped her forehead, responding irritably, “Silly Eve, you just noticed? These plants are neat and orderly, and although there are a variety of species, they all follow a certain pattern; they've obviously been planted by someone.”
“Ah? Then wouldn't it be bad if we just take others' stuff?” Eve asked anxiously.
“Pfft… it's an honor for these fruits to be picked by us. In such a desolate area, no matter how many crops are grown, they wouldn't make any money. At worst, we just leave some money, and you'd better worry about whether they are poisonous or not,” Bess scoffed, while drawing her Magic Wand and casting the Identification Spell on the fruit they just plucked.
Watching her pull out the Magic Wand, Negris's eyes lit up: “The World Tree? Her Magic Wand is made from the World Tree.”
The Divine Light Alliance definitely has at least one World Tree, as the fingers of Ange's current planting contraption body are made from the World Tree.
However, only the Divine Light Alliance uses them, and only for fingers. Planting contraptions made in the Friel Empire don't have them, resulting in their manual dexterity being inferior to those made by the Divine Light Alliance, often causing them to crush the fruit during picking.
When the Identification Spell was cast on the fruit, the feedback came back blank.
“Huh, it can't be identified? Is it a new type of plant?” Bess exclaimed in surprise.
The Identification Art is a type of Arcane Magic, quite like the Gold-touch Stick, essentially engraving some information inside the Magic Wand. When you tap something unfamiliar with it, if the information about the item is engraved, it will display.
The accuracy of the Identification Art is directly related to the engraved information. If it couldn't identify something, it means there's no information about it engraved in the Magic Wand.
Almost every recorded piece of information is engraved in Bess's Magic Wand. The biggest possibility for its inability to identify is that it's a new species.
Of course, it's a new species, cultivated carefully by Ange to thrive in such conditions.
Though it couldn't be identified, the fruit looked plump and tempting. Bess couldn't help but take a small bite, and the sweet flavor exploded in her mouth, a welcome change from the dried foods she had been eating for months: “So sweet, so delicious.”
“Really? Let me try as well,” Eve also picked one.
Encouraged by the first delightful surprise, Bess grew confident about the crops here, thinking: Since they are all cultivated, surely nobody would plant poisonous crops, right?
She continued searching for other fruits, not worried about safety, as the Mourning Undead Soldiers had already patrolled the area.
Soon, Bess moved to the area with Tree of the Dead, picked a Deadman's Fruit, and after taking a bite, promptly spat it out, sticking out her tongue and yelling, “Poisonous!”
