Chapter 1368: Chapter 929: Revive It, Switch Fruit Tree Chapter 1368: Chapter 929: Revive It, Switch Fruit Tree After the children had left, Ange released a Ghost Tourer, which stealthily sneaked into the ruins, passed through the crisscrossing bar stones, crawled through a low lintel, and arrived at a descending staircase.
The Ghost Tourer slipped between the gaps of the staircase, seeping down like a wisp of smoke.
Below the staircase was a commonly seen tomb chamber, low, dark, and damp. Some bar stones had been moved down, elevated, and covered with dry straw to make beds, and even the stone coffins were covered with dry straw.
There were still remains in the stone coffins, and the Ghost Tourer could sense the breath of death. However, the homeless did not care, sharing the straw-covered beds with the remains. Two children were sound asleep on the piles of straw.
The woman was busy organizing the other children; some were gathering dry firewood, some were carrying buckets to fetch water, and others were cleaning.
The tomb chamber was gloomy and damp, the ground perennially moist. This moisture collected in a small drainage ditch surrounding the area and eventually flowed into a pit in the corner.
The woman walked over to the stone coffin, woke the deeply sleeping children with a slap, and then scooped up some stagnant water from the pit.
She carried the stagnant water to another chamber.
The floor of this chamber was covered with thick moss, which seemed to serve as a substrate. It was densely populated with low fruit trees bearing large fruits.
The strange woman poured the stagnant water on the fruit trees. The dispersed water carried a touch of the breath of death. When it landed on the trees, it not only caused splashes but also scattered the breath of death, although this was not visible to ordinary people.
She picked the ripe fruits, which diffused an invisible breath of death. If living beings frequently ate these fruits, the breath of death would erode them, eventually leading to organ failure and death.
Yet, the strange woman carelessly brought a fruit to her lips and vigorously sucked, removing all the breath of death from the fruit.
Ange tilted his head in confusion; was a living being actually consuming the breath of death?
His doubt affected the Ghost Tourer, possibly moving a bit too much, as the strange woman abruptly turned her gaze. When she clearly saw the Ghost Tourer, she involuntarily let out a sharp scream, “Ahh–!”
Normally, a scream would end at that, but as the strange woman screamed, the soul within her released a powerful Soul Impact, shattering the Ghost Tourer into pieces.
The connection of will severed, Ange's consciousness retreated.
Constrained by his current Soul Strength, the Ghost Tourers Ange cast were not very strong, but to shatter a ghost with one strike, the Soul Impact was still potent. It was at least at the level of a Soul Heart, indicating a robust soul.
Having confirmed the situation, Ange no longer hid. He emerged from his hiding place, ready to enter the chamber to negotiate an exchange with her.
However, just as he reached the edge of the ruins, the strange woman, carrying a bundle and dragging seven or eight children, ran out while urging in low tones, “Hurry, hurry, hurry! Run, that ghost has an owner, someone is after us! Quickly run, beware of someone capturing you to make Zombie Skeletons.”
Scrambling outward, they bumped straight into Ange. The strange woman instinctively screamed again, then exclaimed in shock, “Is it you?!”
Her scream released a Soul Impact. Unfortunately for her, Ange's soul was now connected to the World Tree, making it hard to affect him.
Once the World Tree grew a bit more, developed a core, Ange would revert to his previous state of overwhelming spiritual power. Back then, the only one who could see through his scarecrow hat was the God of Life.
Seeing that Ange did not react, the woman was even more terrified and, turning a corner, led all the children through a gap between the bar stones.
“Uh, it seems I scared her…”
Before Ange could say anything, the strange woman and children who had just scrambled out through the bar stones screamed and dashed back.
The cause of their fright was the Monarch, who had roamed Chaotic Burial Mound for a while. Unable to find the soul he was looking for, he had absorbed a lot of breath of death and hadn't digested it yet. The dark aura enveloping him was terrifying even in broad daylight.
With the Monarch outside and Ange in front, the woman, cornered and trapped, knelt down and pleaded repeatedly, “Lord, I'm sorry, it was me who deceived you of your Gold Coin, it has nothing to do with these children. Please spare them, it's all my fault. You can kill or chop me, but please spare them.”
They must have thought Ange had come over to block the door because of the Gold Coin issue.
The Monarch floated over from the air and looked at the group of women and children, asking in confusion, “What's the situation?”
Ange scratched his head in distress. How was he supposed to explain this?
This woman had a strong soul in her belly and had planted some trees with the breath of death in the tomb chamber. He wanted to exchange with her for the strong soul and the trees…
That was the situation, but explaining it clearly was a huge task for Ange, making him miss Negris…
Unfortunately, Negris was not there, and though it was hard to explain, Ange had to do it, distressingly saying, “Exchange, belly soul, tree plant.”
While speaking, Ange pointed at her belly and then towards the direction of the tomb chamber.
But the strange woman's face changed drastically as soon as she heard 'belly', shaking her head emphatically, “No, that's not possible, that's my child. I won't exchange, not for anything.”
Belly soul? The Monarch scanned her belly and immediately saw what it was, “A stone fetus? And it harbored the Soul Heart?”
Ange tilted his head.
Having spent a lot of time with Ange, the Monarch had gotten used to his various physical gestures and explained, “It means the dead fetus, for various reasons, couldn't be expelled from the body in time, eventually calcifying inside.”
After explaining, the Monarch turned to the strange woman and asked, “How long has it been?”
The strange woman looked at the Monarch warily and responded irrelevantly, “It's my child, I won't exchange.”
The Monarch, somewhat puzzled, asked, “Do you have the capability to refuse?”
The strange woman's face fluctuated uncertainly, countless thoughts flickering through her mind, but after weighing it all, she resignedly said, “Well… it seems I don't.”
“Why mention that? You fail to answer properly and instead bring up things you can't refuse. I wasn't intending to rob you, but now I'm curious enough to try,” the Monarch said irritably. “How long has it been?”
The strange woman replied dejectedly, looking downward, “Two years.”
“Two years? It hasn't calcified yet, just toughened. Do you often come into contact with the breath of death? But why are you still alive?” the Monarch asked, perplexed.
The woman looked up and shook her head, “I… I don't know.”
Ange guessed a bit of the reason, saying, “She plants fruit trees, the fruits bear the breath of death, her belly, absorbs the death.”
It took a good while for the Monarch to understand, “So you want to exchange her fruit trees?”
Ange nodded.
The Monarch turned to the woman and said, “We'll exchange your fruit trees, what do you want?”
The woman's eyes lit up, speaking urgently, “I want nothing, just let us leave, all the Deadman's Fruit inside are yours, all yours.”
The Monarch hadn't said anything yet when Ange suddenly pointed at her belly, saying, “Resurrect it, exchange for the fruit trees.”
The woman blinked, seemingly not understanding.
“Such a hassle, you should have called Negris over,” after complaining, the Monarch had no choice but to interpret, “He means, he will resurrect the fetus in your belly in exchange for your fruit trees, are you willing…”
Before the Monarch could finish speaking, the woman had already excitedly moved forward on her knees, extending her hands as if to grasp at a lifeline, tremblingly saying, “He… he can resurrect… resurrect? Really? Really? I… I…”
