Chapter 1360: Chapter 921: Do You Want to Buy a Set of Tickets? Chapter 1360: Chapter 921: Do You Want to Buy a Set of Tickets? Life surged, everything revived, and then I sprouted? Isn't this the World Tree? Had I become the World Tree?
Ange plucked his sprouting finger and threw it into the forest. As soon as the finger touched the ground, it rapidly grew, roots piercing deeply into the earth, visibly expanding.
The growth was too rapid and conspicuous; no, it wouldn't do. With a thought from Ange, the growth of the trunk halted, but the roots spread quickly, extending in all directions like a spider's web.
Back at the Life Sacred Pool, the God of Life had used similar camouflage, growing into vines, aerial roots, and false branches, eventually merging with an entire mountain, making it impossible to discern from the outside that it was a World Tree.
The natural growth strategy of a banyan tree is similar, appearing to be a forest of banyan trees but actually just one banyan growing extensively.
Ange felt as if he had gained another body, with a continuous influx of life energy spurring his rapid growth.
Although it was strange that his finger had turned into a World Tree, as a symbiotic entity with two Gods of Life, Ange's manipulation of life energy was hardly inferior to that of an old tree.
Thus, in the forest that had been scorched by a wildfire, a Tree of Life silently took shape.
Ange took the branch of the Chaos Tree that he had brought along and planted it in the forest; two days later, small fine roots sprouted from the branch, and it came to life.
Nagi, carrying the cleared commission, hurried back and reported, “Three days' wages, two logging Mechanical Constructs, one support construct, a total of thirty-two demon crystals.”
“Worked to death for three days just for thirty-two demon crystals? That's way too little, right? Are they cheating us out of our money?” The Monarch said dissatisfied upon hearing this meager amount.
It was his first time earning money from labor, and the efforts of all the undead kings of the Void were valued at only thirty-two demon crystals? No, with two logging constructs and Ange, who was registered as a support construct, he was worth at most fifteen.
Nagi nearly fell out of the cockpit, “Pfft, too little? Where is it too little? It's a lot, actually. A low-end logging construct costs just six hundred demon crystals, and a day's commission is five crystals.”
“That means it only takes a hundred and twenty days to earn back the money spent on the construct, and the rest is pure profit. Considering the lifespan and depreciation rate, a logging construct can be used for at least ten years, breaking even in half a year, and the remaining nine and a half years are all profit. If there was always this kind of work, I'd have formed a Mechanical Construct team and taken jobs every day.”
The Monarch was somewhat confused, “Is this considered good?”
“Of course, it's only because it's a fire emergency task that the commission is so high. If it were a regular logging team, you'd generally get two or three demon crystals a day, sometimes even deducted. Being able to settle twenty days of woodcutting in a month would be pretty good, and even if they don't deduct, it's common for payments to be delayed for six months or a few months,” Nagi complained incessantly, sounding as though he had been shorted on wages before.
“That's outrageous, daring to deduct my wages, throw them into the Soul Prison and burn them to death,” the Monarch said.
Ange said nothing but instead surveyed his gains, the largest of which was undoubtedly the World Tree.
Unlike the symbiotic state with the God of Life and the Little Sapling, Ange was the World Tree, and the World Tree was him, essentially growing another body.
This bestowed upon him surging life energy and an almost indestructible body; unless the entire World Tree was uprooted, even if his current Mechanical Construct body were ground into pieces, he would remain unharmed.
Next comes spiritual power. The World Tree originally possessed formidable spiritual power, capable of covering the entire forest. Thus, Ange's spiritual power had multiplied countless times, giving him that sensation again, as if his magic power could never be depleted due to its rapid recovery rate.
Next, were the cuttings of the Chaos Tree. After many unsuccessful attempts on the farm, now all had succeeded. Ange had obtained dozens of saplings, which also meant he had a continuous supply of saplings.
Fourth, there was a Tree of Life at the Divine Light Association.
Why such a speculation? Because Ange discovered that the reason the cuttings were successful was that the saplings needed the blessing of the Tree of Life to survive and propagate, just like his No. 2 Magic Rice.
Confirming that there was a Tree of Life at the Divine Light Association, it was easy to understand why his own fingers were sprouting. His current mechanical construct body's fingers were made from the World Tree material.
“World Tree as material? Impossible, right? Is the World Tree so worthless that it is used for mechanical construct materials?” The Monarch couldn't quite believe Ange's conjecture.
Ange scratched his head. Was the World Tree valuable? As long as it had sufficient life force, the World Tree could grow as massive as the Tree of Ten Thousand Realms. Negris had once even cut down excess World Trees to make coffins, so perhaps it wasn't valuable.
However, only the five fingers of the mechanical construct were made from the World Tree wood, the rest were ordinary wood. Ange guessed that the World Tree wood was used for the fingers due to flexibility and feedback of force.
Mechanical constructs had no sense of touch. They could not feel the pressure of objects, and using the force fit for moving stones to move glass would easily shatter it.
World Tree wood had the ability to sense, allowing control over the force used in the fingers.
“I see, so if there's another wildfire, and you toss your other fingers into the fire, would that potentially grow a few more World Trees?” The Monarch asked.
Ange shook his head, “Tree of Life, one plane, only one grows.”
“Tree of Life? Isn't that the same as the World Tree? Didn't you say that there were many World Trees grown in the Restful Plane, and Little Fat Dragon cut down the excess ones?” The Monarch asked, puzzled.
Ange shook his head, “Not the same. Conscious, Tree of Life; unconscious, World Tree.”
Ange was the consciousness of this World Tree, so with Ange, this World Tree was the only Tree of Life in the plane.
“Oh, I understand now. It's like with Necromancers, the smart ones are Witches, the dumb ones are Zombies,” the Monarch suddenly realized, then asked, “What else? Any other gains?”
A single mountain fire had brought the Monarch a vast amount of the breath of death, while Ange gained a Tree of Life, robust spiritual power, and saplings of the Chaos Tree, truly a bounty overflowing.
While the Monarch was asking, Ange was scratching his head. The three mechanical constructs passed through a Teleportation Array and arrived at Friel Kingdom City.
The scale of the Teleportation Array in Friel Kingdom City was utterly incomparable to a small town like Burnwind. Within sight, there were at least eighteen Teleportation Arrays, with gates frequently opening and a constant stream of people coming and going.
No sooner had they passed through the gate, than they were pushed out of the area of the Teleportation Array: “Arriving travelers, please immediately leave the area of the Teleportation Array. Do not hinder the operation of the gate, do not linger by the entrance, and do not touch the gate, to avoid injury.”
In the midst of the chaos, the three were squeezed toward the exit, looking at the dense crowd, even Nagi couldn't help feeling a headache, speaking over the communication channel, “It's so chaotic, how do we get to the Astrology Institute?”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than several crackling sounds followed, and suddenly an unfamiliar voice broke into the communicator: “Oh hello there, you're headed to the Astrology Institute? You don't happen to be wanting to see the Light Point Fortress in the Boundless Space Hole, do you? If so, you're in luck running into me. I have Stargazing Mirror tickets here, 1991 each, guarantee you can see the Light Point Fortress. Would you like to buy some?”
