Chapter 1324: Chapter 885: Hardest Forehead Chapter 1324: Chapter 885: Hardest Forehead Some herbs on the cliffs of the desert didn't even require Little Bone to use magic; his hands and feet were enough to easily climb up and earn a Soul Crystal commission.
“Lord Skeleton, you're truly amazing. Once my sister gets better, I'll have her introduce more tasks to you. My sister is incredible, she's a Pharmacist and knows many mercenaries,” the little boy proudly said.
Whether the little boy's sister introduced Little Bone to any tasks or not was unknown, but there were still people hiring Little Bone. From time to time, people would come to ask him to frame beams, move things, or dive to retrieve items.
However, Soul Crystals were still quite expensive, and only tasks that were beyond the reach of ordinary people would make them think of hiring Little Bone, but soon everyone encountered a liquidity crisis with the Soul Crystals.
Because there were no Undead in Sand Creek Town, and hardly anyone used Soul Crystals, only Old Captain Markus and the Pharmacist Ariola had a few, and the townspeople had a scattering of them; once used up, that was it.
Perhaps the first job from Old Captain had a demonstration effect, the commissions for hiring Little Bone all started from one Soul Crystal, and definitely not with an equivalent Demon Crystal, because Skeletons couldn't absorb Demon Crystals.
A few days later, Old Captain Markus came over somewhat apologetically to Little Bone: “Little Skeleton, I sent a message to the dock and asked around, but no one has reported a lost skeleton. I've left a message saying I've taken in a skeleton. Whoever can report your distinguishing features, I will take you up there.”
Little Bone looked blankly at Old Captain Markus.
Marcus had already gotten used to it, he patted its shoulder, then walked away.
Little Bone tilted its head, continuing to look down and fidget with its things, splitting the plants.
Though Sand Creek Town was a small town at the edge of the desert, the species were still abundant. Little Bone discovered several low plants that were very suitable for desert planting.
Desert plants thrive in high temperatures with large evaporation during the day, and endure the cold, windy nights. Plants with developed root systems, short vegetation, and leathery leaves are suitable.
The crop that locals called sea buckthorn was particularly apt for this environment; if only the Land Forbidden to Gods had this crop, maybe the desert could have been filled up long ago.
After some time of research, Little Bone found that sea buckthorn could be propagated by cuttings.
Taking a mature sea buckthorn tree, it cut branches thicker than a finger that were over two years old, bundled them, soaked them in a pot for one day, then planted them in moist sandy soil. Seven days later, roots sprouted, and it was time for splitting.
After these operations, Little Bone ended up with several hundred small sea buckthorn saplings.
After dusk fell, which was the best time for transplanting, Little Bone carried a large bundle of saplings to the cliffs near where it had gathered herbs last time.
Here, far from the town and shaped by the cut and wash of the Sand Creek River, formed a river beach area with loose, moist sandy soil, perfect for planting sea buckthorn.
It took a few hours to plant all the sea buckthorn saplings, and then Little Bone leisurely walked back.
Due to years of habit, Little Bone always worked from sunrise to sunset; there was a regal aura in the sunlight that made its bones stronger, hence its skeleton was now much more robust than its soul.
This was one of its rare nights wandering outside, and then it noticed something peculiar. There was a scent in the wind that felt very comforting, a type of essence that was absent in the Land Forbidden to Gods.
The breath of death? A familiar yet foreign term popped into Little Bone's soul, so this was what the breath of death was. No wonder it was absent in the Land Forbidden to Gods, where there were only small animals and insects, whose Soul Levels were too low to cultivate the breath of death.
Little Bone deeply “inhaled” using its soul, and the breath of death gathered towards it.
In this manner, “breathing”, Little Bone leisurely made its way back to the warehouse, spotting from afar that someone was already waiting there; upon approaching, it turned out to be a woman.
The woman saw Little Bone and quickly greeted him, “Hello, Pharmacist Ariola has come to visit and seeks an audience with Your Excellency Summoner.”
Pharmacist Ariola? Little Bone remembered the young boy who had once hired him with a Soul Crystal to help gather herbs; Ariola was that boy's sister. She now looked healthy again, but what did she mean by 'Death Summoner'? Little Bone tilted his head, puzzled.
“Your Excellency Summoner, may I come out to meet you? Ariola has some matters to discuss,” Ariola called out. Clearly, she wasn't addressing Little Bone directly with the loudness of her voice.
It seemed she thought Little Bone was summoned and that there was a Death Summoner behind him.
Unfortunately, despite her calling for a while, no Death Summoner appeared to respond to her, and Little Bone just stood by, watching her, confused.
With no other choice, Ariola turned her attention to Little Bone and requested, “Little Skeleton, can you take me to your master? You just went out to find him, didn't you? I have some matters I'd like to discuss with him.”
Little Bone shook his head; did 'master' mean 'king'? He also wanted to find him, but he didn't know where the king was.
“Ah? Can't you? I mean no other intention, I just want to discuss some matters with Your Excellency Summoner,” Ariola said.
Little Bone shook his head again.
Disappointed, Ariola gave up and then asked, “Then, Little Skeleton, can I hire you?”
Little Bone tilted his head.
“I need to prepare a Giant Dragon Potion and require some tissues from a giant dragon. I know where to find some. If you help me retrieve them, I'll share half with you,” Ariola said.
Little Bone shook his head and said, “No fight dragon.”
Ariola brightened up, “Your Excellency Summoner? No fight dragon? You mean not attacking a giant dragon? Of course, I'd be insane to attack one. I know where there are dragon bones; they are buried in a place occupied by a group of cave dwellers. I was injured by these cave dwellers. If Your Excellency Summoner helps me drive away this bunch, I'll share half of the dragon's bones with you.”
Little Bone nodded. It seemed like a misunderstanding on her part, but since they weren't fighting a dragon, that was fine; the king had said not to fight 'dragons.'
No wonder Ariola was mistaken. Ordinary villagers had no idea how astonishing it was to see an Ashbone Skeleton move independently. Without a summoner's command, an Ashbone Skeleton could only act on instinct, incapable of tasks like moving things or setting beams.
Now that Little Bone spoke, she just figured it was the summoner controlling him, never suspecting that Little Bone was speaking for himself. A speaking Ashbone Skeleton was even more terrifying than one moving by itself.
On the way to the cave dwellers' den, Ariola repeatedly cautioned, “The cave where the cave dwellers nest is narrow on the outside but deep inside. I will release a limb-weakening potion first, but it takes time for the Limb Weakening Potion to work. Your task is to keep them inside the cave until the potion takes effect, can you do that?”
Arriving outside the cave dwellers' den, Ariola, holding a handful of herbs drenched in potion, asked again, “These cave dwellers are the strongest race among them–the Divine Cavemen. Each of them has a tuft of tough, yellow 'divine hair' on their heads, so don't hit their heads. Can you hold them off? If not, we still have time to… uh.”
Ariola hadn't finished speaking when a cave dweller coincidentally emerged from the den. As he appeared, Little Bone struck him on the head with his stick. The so-called tough 'divine hair' had no effect; the cave dweller rolled his eyes and fainted.
“This…” Ariola didn't know what to say and quickly lit the dry herbs in her hand, throwing them into the den. The inside cave dwellers were immediately smoked out, emerging at the entrance where Little Bone knocked each out with his stick, one by one.
“Did I… was I deceived? What about the 'divine hair descent,' the hardest foreheads?” Ariola was shocked by the turn of events.
The last time, several Divine Cavemen, wielding clubs, had chased her for more than ten miles, and she had suffered a severe beating.
Inside the den, Ariola quickly found a massive skeleton buried deep in the cave, with only part of it visible.
“It's buried too deep. Your Excellency Summoner, do you have any way to dig out the skeleton?” Ariola asked.
