Chapter 1264: Chapter 827 The Ancient Black Stone is Too Strange Chapter 1264: Chapter 827 The Ancient Black Stone is Too Strange “Aren't you afraid it's tricking us into being killed?” Watching Anthony swagger into the depths of the forest, Negris asked in confusion.
“No fear, what's there to be afraid of? It's not possible for there to be something hiding in this plane that even Lord Nage can't suppress, not to mention we've got you, right?” Anthony said respectfully.
“Me? What's it got to do with me? You're suddenly being formal, are you trying to trick me into something?” Negris asked warily.
“How could that be? What I mean is that you could go scout ahead first, and once you make sure there's no danger, we'll follow,” Anthony said with a laugh.
“Ptui! Curse you…” Negris didn't finish speaking before Anthony covered his mouth.
“Lord Nage, you can't curse me anymore. The last time you cursed me to have no toilet paper when I went to the loo, it really put me in a bind,” Anthony said, still frightened by the memory.
Negris was stunned, “When did I curse you to have no toilet paper when you take a dump?”
“Chapter six hundred and sixty-three,” Anthony replied.
Negris went back to check and, sure enough, it was there. Suddenly curious, he asked, “So the curse worked? What did you use to wipe your ass afterward?”
“Holy Light, what else?” Anthony replied, annoyed.
“Serves you right for trying to make me the scout. Listen, I'm not going this time. That ghostly thing attacks the consciousness, and a hit is no laughing matter,” Negris said.
While complaining, Negris still trusted Anthony somewhat, not believing he would use him as a risk-taker. If he did, it could only be out of sheer necessity or lack of a better option.
Upon reaching the place mentioned by the Flesh Giant, they saw a large pit that went straight down to the depths. If it was a karst landscape, then it would be a sinkhole formed by water erosion. But the terrain here clearly wasn't karst, so it must've been made by something boring through.
Anthony was indeed just joking, he summoned a Holy Spirit and tossed it in. This wasn't the Chaos Plane, where the environment could disrupt soul projections. Any old thing that could project consciousness could scout remotely.
But Anthony's Holy Spirit was just a primer, the real work fell to Ange. After he summoned the Holy Spirit, Ange called forth a swarm of lost souls, which surged into the Sky Pit.
Right away, they discovered something different.
“Is this Sky Pit surrounded by blackness the so-called Ancient Black Stone?” Projecting onto Ange's body, they shared his vision.
Silver coin was the first to fly into the pit, digging out a piece of Black Stone to bring back to Ange.
Anthony, reacting a half step slower, patted his thigh regretfully and muttered, “So quick, Silver coin really lives up to its name.”
Holding the Ancient Black Stone, Ange squeezed it a few times, surprised. He came back to his senses, closely examined the Black Stone, then broke it open to see that its interior was porous, much like the inside of a sponge.
Negris wanted to take half of it, but as soon as he got hold, he felt the immense weight and dropped it on the ground.
It was an awkward moment, as everyone looked at it in astonishment.
“Can you handle it?” Anthony asked.
“It's you who can't handle it. I wasn't paying attention, I didn't expect it to be so heavy, like gold,” Negris said with a sheepish laugh, picking up the Black Stone from the ground.
This ordinary-looking black rock, full of holes like a sponge, should be lighter than a normal stone. But when picked up, it was heavier than metal. If it were solid inside, wouldn't it be many times heavier than gold?
It was normal for Negris to misjudge the weight and drop it.
After picking it up again, Negris immediately felt more oddities. For instance, its texture didn't feel like cold, hard metal but had a leathery, keratinous touch. When rubbed, it even powderized.
But that was all he could make out.
On the other hand, Ange studied it for a while and then started to forge and heat it. A huge Fire Element converged and poured into the rock.
With Ange's current strength, one of the most top-notch in the entire Void, a mere gesture from him caused the surrounding Fire Elements to be drained, leading to an elemental depletion state.
Yet, with such an enormous flow of Fire Element, the black rock clearly became very hot; the air above it had started to distort from the heat.
However, that was it. The rock didn't redden or melt; it showed no changes whatsoever. Any ordinary stone would probably have turned into lava by now.
“What's going on? Is Fire Element ineffective? No, that can't be right, it looks really hot,” Negris commented, extending a toe to poke it but couldn't bear the heat even before touching it. His scales started curling at the edges from two or three centimeters away.
This made him exclaim in wonder, “Must be three or four thousand degrees?”
“Three thousand six hundred and seventeen degrees,” Ange said. He had measured with the Ring of Balance, down to the exact degree.
“How is that possible? I don't remember any stone or metal that can withstand such a high temperature. Bring out Old Du and ask him; even alchemical materials shouldn't be able to withstand such temperatures,” Negris said.
Ange pulled out Durken, and he said in amazement, “Three thousand six hundred degrees? That high? Definitely unheard of, and this isn't even the limit. It hasn't changed form; it probably could endure even higher temperatures. What kind of material is this? I'm going to dig a bit.”
Even the King of Alchemy had never seen a substance capable of withstanding such temperatures. Who else had?
“Is this a conductor? Should we have Onas take a look?” Negris suggested.
Onas was originally just a Thunder Titan, but since Anthony loved to create checks and balances, he raised a Thunder Titan to a status higher than that of the Gold Titans, who naturally wouldn't accept it. Thus, Onas had to depend on Anthony's support.
It was more than a tactic; it had become a habit for Anthony.
When Onas came out and saw, he said, “The resistance is massive, I can't do it alone. Please summon all Titans, and I'll form the head.”
All Titans were summoned. Under the command of Onas, they joined the force field one by one.
When the tenth Titan joined the force field, they finally broke through the resistance in the Black Stone, and the rock instantly exploded.
No good, this method failed; they couldn't find out anything about the strange Black Stone.
Everyone tried all sorts of clever methods to figure out the rock, but they couldn't prevail over the Black Stone.
“How about we try Tom and Lorca? At the moment of igniting the light points, the temperature is very high, possibly over three thousand degrees,” Negris suggested.
Ange nodded, preparing to summon the Pure Water Elf when the Flesh Giant's head opened its eyes again, “Are you guys sick? I've been waiting down here for so long, and you're up there studying stones?”
Without looking back, Anthony said, “Hold on, this stone is too strange, and it's more important than you. This is the Ancient Black Stone, right? Were you trapped by it?”
