Chapter 1258: Chapter 821: Picked Up a Plane for Free, and You Want to Plant Trees? Chapter 1258: Chapter 821: Picked Up a Plane for Free, and You Want to Plant Trees? “Kvada, you just stumbled upon a Master Plane, billions of believers, and the wealth accumulated by a religion over tens of thousands of years–are you the lover of the Goddess of Fortune? No, you're not, yet you're actually looking for places to plant trees?” Negris ranted angrily.
Blinded by his anger, Negris didn't realize how fast he was flying. They were used to staying in the Void where, due to the absence of air, they could easily travel tens of thousands of kilometers; however, a circle in the plane wasn't even nearly that extensive.
For a plane with air resistance, this would be difficult, but Negris felt no resistance at all. Multicolor lights flashed on his body from time to time, making the air seem nonexistent in comparison.
Ange scratched his head, “Where can I?”
Negris was about to burst, “I'm questioning! Questioning! Not wondering, damn it, fly towards the equator. This plane has stopped rotating. Just look at the tree canopies–the denser side faces the sun.”
“Oh,” Ange glanced at the ground below, easily distinguishing which side of the tree canopies was denser, and immediately flew towards that direction, soon arriving at a vast primeval forest.
The condition of the forest wasn't good. The plane had drifted off; it had lost its rotation, and the climate had greatly changed. Many plants had started to wither, and the ecology was collapsing.
Ange quickly planted a World Tree and stepped hard on the ground. The crops around him grew rapidly, exuding a surging life force.
The newly planted World Tree grew rapidly as if it had been sprayed with Insect Ash Liquid.
Little Sapling popped up, joining in enthusiastically, waving its True Leaves, and sent out an ardent message: Put effort–put effort–put effort–
“Huh? Why aren't you saying 'grow'? Are you slacking off?” Negris didn't hear the 'complete' lines and was a bit thrown off.
Ah–won't grow–won't grow–bad–Little Sapling responded.
Negris could understand Ange but not the Little Sapling, for what the Little Sapling was saying wasn't really a language but some kind of message.
Just like 'I'm about to bloom' or 'I'm about to sprout,' except its life force was exceptionally strong, which made others perceive it, unrelated to language.
Ange had to translate, “Won't grow, climate change, bad.”
“Kvada, I think you're learning from Little Sapling; your speech is getting shorter and shorter,” Negris said somewhat irritably, but he understood the point.
The climate had changed too drastically. Crops needed to readapt to the climate; they couldn't be blessed to grow, or at least not by Little Sapling, as it wasn't one with these crops.
Only the newly planted World Tree could symbiotically exist with these crops, needing the guidance or protection of the New World Tree to aid their growth and adaptation to the new climate.
“Professional,” Negris gave a resigned thumbs up, wishing Kvada could be this professional without having to plant anything.
Under the protection of the Instant Death Halo and the New World Tree, the dying forest quickly regained its vitality, and the crops thrived.
The vibrant life force also propelled the World Tree to grow rapidly, getting thicker and branching out aerial roots into the soil, continuing to grow and further branching, endlessly expanding its branches and quickly integrating into the forest.
The World Tree adopted a growth strategy completely different from the old God of Life; instead of growing taller, it branched like a banyan tree, clearly in response to the adverse conditions following the climate change.
This was the innate instinct of the World Tree, which, if it were in an even harsher environment like the Void, would grow directly into the core of the rocks like Trent, never emerging.
With life restored, Ange immediately began collecting seeds; his invisible Spirit Touch filled the sky, plucking seeds from crops that had entered their reproductive phase.
As Ange continued on his way, his Spirit Touch suddenly prodded a bizarre tree that felt slightly odd to the touch.
Ange looked up and saw the bizarre tree staring aghast with its one eye, gazing absentmindedly at the distant World Tree.
Tree People? Ange cocked his head, prodding with his Spirit Touch a couple more times.
After confirming it was a Tree Person, Ange walked around it and continued collecting seeds.
Negris took a longer look at the Tree Person and made a new discovery, “Oh, it has a Black Crystal on its forehead–it's a Void War Tree.”
“You are… a descendant of the Ancient Dragon?” A voice emerged from the side, causing Negris to turn and see a Tree Herder's face, struggling to emerge from the ground.
Not just one–in front and behind, left and right, and even in the distance, entities were burrowing out from the soil.
An increasing number of Tree People clawed their way out from the ground and gathered toward the World Tree, causing the forest to tremble, traces of Tree People's movement everywhere.
However, Negris noted that only the nearby War Tree Man and Tree Herder had Black Crystals on their foreheads. The rest were just ordinary Tree People of the Plane level, on par with Talkative Goler.
“Yes, I'm a descendant of the Ancient Dragon, you can call me Nage.” A Black Crystal on the forehead signified that they were descendants of the Tree of Ten Thousand Realms, having survived since the ancient times, naturally aware of the Time Origin Ancient Dragon and its descendants.
The Void Tree Herders finally crawled out completely, and one of them said excitedly, “This world has no descendants of the Ancient Dragon. You're from another world, were you the one who brought the World Tree here?”
Negris nodded, “Indeed, we brought it from another world. But how do you know there's no World Tree in this world? Are there none in other Planes either?”
The Void Tree Herder explained, “No, we've scattered seeds across all Planes and the Abyss and sensed no presence of the World Tree. The original World Trees were destroyed in the great extinction caused by the Ancient Black Stone. Only we survived.”
“Oh, that's too bad, my condolences,” Negris replied casually.
Though he offered condolences, his heart felt no sorrow, as he now understood the concept of the God of Life.
Plants rise and fall; it's all part of nature. A single fruit of the World Tree contains thousands of seeds, clearly relying on numbers to succeed in propagating.
Furthermore, each Plane can give birth to only one World Tree, and each world can have only one Void Tree. Once a new Tree of Ten Thousand Realms sprouts, there will not be a second one in the entire Void.
Thus, unless it's a sentient World Tree, it doesn't matter if you treat the saplings as bean sprouts to saute with eggs; he himself has chopped down quite a few World Trees to thin out the saplings. An unknown World Tree being destroyed dignifies only a verbal lament.
“Thank you, you brought a new World Tree, providing us with hope,” said the Tree Herder. “Without the World Tree's protection, we Tree People have suffered greatly. By the way, descendant of the Ancient Dragon, has something happened in the outside Void? Why have so many Planes been destroyed?”
“Indeed, many things have happened; the Void is collapsing. I'm sorry, just as you found new hope, I've shattered it again,” Negris admitted, somewhat apologetically.
Having just found a new World Tree, only to learn about the impending collapse of the Void–such extreme highs and lows were truly thrilling.
However, contrary to what Negris expected, the Tree Herder calmly remarked, “So, the collapse of the Void is finally set to begin again?”
Seeing its reaction, Negris recalled that these two Void War Trees and the Tree Herder may have also experienced the last Void collapse. They were waiting for this day, whereas the sudden appearance of the World Tree was a more pleasant surprise.
The Void War Tree, which had been silently gazing into the distance, suddenly lowered its head and asked in a deep voice, “So, are you here in search of the Ancient Black Stone?”
