Chapter 1193: Chapter 757: Don't Pretend to be the Sole Light of the Void Chapter 1193: Chapter 757: Don't Pretend to be the Sole Light of the Void Everyone exchanged puzzled glances. How come that sounded so odd–could Ange really help it give birth? And how would that work?
“Just giving birth. I carry the eggs myself, but I've never been able to lay them. Yet, when he glares at me, I suddenly feel like I'm about to give birth–a really strange sensation. Can you help me have babies?” the Iron Scale Cleaner asked.
Anthony started to understand, pulling Ange and Negris aside and whispered, “Conceive with a Glance.”
Negris was shocked. “You mean, the Conceive with a Glance of the Harvest Goddess caused it to become fertile?”
“Yes, Conceive with a Glance can increase the chances of conception, but there's only one Iron Scale Cleaner, and we don't even know its gender. How could it feel like it's about to give birth?” Anthony said, puzzled.
Negris smugly explained, “You don't understand. If it belongs to the slug species, it should be hermaphroditic. In theory, it can't self-fertilize, so it would need to find another Iron Scale Cleaner like itself. Maybe the Conceive with a Glance broke that limitation.”
“Hermaphroditic?” Anthony was taken aback. He wasn't a zoologist, so he had no concept of this, but he did wonder, “But do Ancient Gods need to reproduce?”
Negris called over the Goddess of Starfire, curious, “Do you Ancient Gods need to mate to reproduce…”
Before he could finish, a blushing and clearly embarrassed Starfire shoved him, “Hey, what kind of question is that? It's embarrassing!”
Negris, who was pushed away and ended up with broken limbs, didn't dare ask Starfire again and instead turned to the Little Demon King.
“You mean inheriting bloodlines? This is how I inherit mine.” After saying that, the Little Demon King released a blood mist and asked Ange for a bunch of grass to throw into it.
The grass and the little creatures in the bushes were quickly contaminated by the blood mist. They twisted and struggled–some bursting into juice, some changing form, and others blooming into bright flowers, turning from ordinary Little Grass into Man-eating Grass.
Ange poked the Man-eating Grass curiously. The Man-eating Grass immediately shot out spikes, pricking first, then its leaves started coiling around, and if pricked, the animal would be poisoned and soon wrapped up by the leaves until it died.
The Little Demon King's inheritance created corruption, while Garritt and Dimali hadn't reproduced and didn't know how.
“So, how were you born? You don't know either? Humans are born from humans, Elves from Elves–what? Elves aren't born from Elves? They are born from trees? Your first generation of Void Elves came from trees?” Negris was astounded.
Aesclis, who was called over, said, “Yes, we Void Elves are born from trees. In the forbidden lands, there are many Elf seeds. Only when it's absolutely necessary do we mate to reproduce.”
“What a mess,” Negris muttered to himself. The Void was indeed a mess, with no uniform method of reproduction.
Demons reproduce through Bloodline Corruption, Void Elves have both asexual and sexual reproduction, and Shay reproduces by splitting. With that in mind, self-fertilization in the Iron Scale Cleaner seemed not so surprising.
“In that case, Ange could really help it give birth. Should we help it?” Negris asked.
Anthony hesitantly asked, “I remember snails can lay a lot of eggs, right? What if it lays thousands at once–would the Chaos Plane have enough for it to eat?”
“Hiss–” Negris drew in a breath, “Thousands? With its size, forget thousands, just tens and the Chaos Plane wouldn't be enough. By the way, is there only one Iron Scale Cleaner in the Chaos Plane?”
“I suppose so. I've only ever seen one. Ever since the Tree of Ten Thousand Realms died, it often sleeps and rarely comes out,” the Goddess of Starfire said.
“It seldom comes out? Sleeps? Why? Is it because after the Divine Tree withered, there's less food, so it often sleeps?” Anthony asked.
“That's probably the reason. I'm not really sure; it's so hard that we normally don't bother it,” the Goddess of Starfire said, a bit embarrassed.
Anthony thought for a moment, then asked in a different way, “Let me put it this way, is this Iron Scale Cleaner a 'good' Ancient God?”
Good? Bad? Negris gave Anthony a surprised glance. Why would a millenniold Godman use such a crude standard to classify an Ancient God? Had he become naive?
The Goddess of Starfire immediately said, “A good Ancient God, definitely a good one. Look how it doesn't even want to kill the parasitic beings on its body and is instead trying to find them shelter. I've never heard of the Iron Scale Cleaner harming any creature, not even ordinary ones.”
“Ah? It's that kind-hearted? Then why does it have such a fearsome name? Cleaner, I was under the impression that it would leave places spotless, sparing neither human nor animal,” Negris exclaimed in astonishment.
The Goddess of Starfire was stunned, “It's called the Cleaner because it cleans the Divine Tree, nibbling away all the moss it encounters, that's why.”
Alright, it seemed there had been a misunderstanding. This was a completely harmless, kind-hearted Ancient God.
“However, let's forget about its request. It can lay thousands of eggs at a time; these Giant Beasts, the Chaos Plane can't support them,” Negris said.
“Mhm, mhm, let it change its request, see if there is a possibility of trade. But this does remind us, Lord Anthony's 'Conceive with a Glance' must be quite in demand on the Chaos Plane. There should be plenty of creatures like the Cleaner who want children but can't have them. Perhaps start an infertility treatment center later?”
Negris slapped his thigh, “I've already told him to start one, but he wouldn't listen. Otherwise, Brooks would have been the first to seek treatment. The Giant Dragons have been going crazy wanting offspring. It's fortunate that the Divine Wood Continent recovered a distant kin; otherwise, the Dragon Clan might have faced extinction.”
Don't be fooled by the mere six or seven dozen Giant Dragons on the Divine Wood Continent. The advantage lay in the distant blood relations, which allowed for a broader range of compatible partners, ensuring that Silver Dragon Ulana wouldn't need to choose a mate from her own cousins.
But this was not a long-term solution. Given the current birth rates of the Dragon Clan, without an increase in their success rate, they might fall into extinction crises again in a few tens of thousands of years.
Anyway, Ange's territory was so vast now that even if the number of Giant Dragons doubled or tripled, it wouldn't be a problem. At worst, they could be used to pull plows, burn wasteland, sow seeds, fertilize, and spray pesticides. Aerial seeding and fertilization should be pretty effective.
“Cough, cough!” Seeing the conversation going sideways, Anthony quickly steered it back and asked Starfire, “Speaking of parasitic beings, do you mean those structures on its scales? What kind of creatures live in them? Are the Divine Light Apostles you mentioned them?”
Starfire shook her head, “I don't know if they're Divine Light Apostles, but the parasites are indeed the creatures in those structures. They settled there while the Iron Scale Cleaner was asleep, and even after it woke up, they didn't leave, probably thinking you're the 'light' of the Ancient Godlight and wanting to 'return' them to you.”
“This…” Anthony didn't know what to say. Was the Iron Scale Cleaner too kind-hearted? How could it not drive them away? Simply killing one-tenth of them in front of everyone would scare all the creatures away.
Forget it, he was going to accept them anyway, so he might as well ask. If he couldn't help it bear children, then helping it take in those beings would still be a way to show respect to a kind-hearted Ancient God.
After the discussion, Anthony turned to the Iron Scale Cleaner and said, “We don't know yet if we can help you bear children. Such a Divine Technique consumes too much power. Let's first take a look at these Divine Light Apostles you mentioned. Can you have one of their representatives come over for a chat?”
“Oh, right, it consumes too much. I only thought about you helping me bear children but didn't consider how much it would drain me. The expenditure must be huge. I'll find some power sources suitable for you. I can't let you waste your efforts,” said the Iron Scale Cleaner as its body began to move.
Its soft front end pushed a scale, smoothly moving it in front of Ange, and then quickly retracted.
From a distance, it didn't seem significant, but up close one could see just how large this scale was–at least ten kilometers long, five kilometers wide, and five hundred meters thick. Thick, heavy, and hard, it glistened with a metallic sheen.
However, this scale was just a regular piece of the Iron Scale Cleaner's shell. Similar scales layered over each other, blanketing its entire body.
No wonder even Starfire had to admit that her World-destroying Starfire couldn't dent it. Who could damage a steel plate that was so casually five hundred meters thick?
Before this scale, the Big Round Devil was merely like a thin-shelled walnut.
On this scale were several buildings that seemed to grow from the scale itself, integrated with it. At their windows and doorways, numerous humans were peering out curiously.
On the tallest tower, a female human was shouting something, but her voice was shielded and couldn't be heard.
Not until the scale came to a stop in front of Ange did the Iron Scale Cleaner remove the shield. The woman's voice immediately spread, “You are certainly not the light of the Ancient Godlight. We do not recognize you. You impostors, don't try to deceive the Great Iron Scales. You desecrators of Godlight, don't pose as the sole light of the Void. You're despicable, shameless, frauds!”
