Chapter 1156: 720 Chapter 1156: 720 “Something's off,” the Little Inferior Demons who had stood up hastily withdrew their Fireballs and fingers, knelt down again, and quietly shuffled toward the crowd of their companions who had been kneeling properly all along.
Those companions dared not let them sneak in, pushing them away with arms and legs flailing. That 'little girl' was watching them closely–what if she couldn't tell who was who and ended up beating them up as a group?
So, the Little Inferior Demons quickly split into two groups: one trembling in fear, the other standing tall and proud.
The Little Angel rushed forward excitedly, landing a punch in the eye socket, another punch in the eye socket.
The hearts of the Void Elves also rose and fell like a roller coaster. In this place, the Ancient Gods were the supreme beings, and all creatures struggled to survive in their shadow.
Those protected by an Ancient God were fine, but without protection, their plight was no different than that of a rat in the gutter–scattering like birds and beasts at the arrival of an Ancient God and only daring to show themselves after it had left.
Or, like these Little Inferior Demons, relying on some blood relation, following behind the Devil King of Purgatory, picking up scraps and living quite comfortably.
Among the hierarchy of the numerous Ancient Gods, the Ancient God Hunters, the Purgatory Twins, stood a notch higher. No other Ancient God dared to disturb his territory.
If it were lower-ranking Ancient Gods, like those from the Wandering God League, they themselves were targets of other Ancient Gods' hunts–how could they afford to protect other beings?
Even if they weren't being hunted, the battle over territory between two Ancient Gods could easily spell disaster for these Void Elves.
In contrast, within the domain of the Purgatory Twins, despite being harassed by Little Inferior Demons, the difficulty of surviving was actually the lowest.
Yet now, this Devil King of Purgatory, who in the eyes of the Void Elves was levels above the Ancient Gods, was obediently kneeling before Ange, his body shrouded in a blood mist, looking ferocious beyond measure.
This juxtaposition of ferocity and docility made many feel uncomfortable.
Ange, on the other hand, didn't seem to mind. He nodded, signaling for him to rise, and then went back to messing with the tender hemp.
Tender hemp, capable of growing in the Void's low-oxygen, lightless environment, was a rare crop of immeasurable value.
Whether it was cultivating new crops based on tender hemp or breeding crops with the characteristics of tender hemp, as long as they retained the ability to grow in the Void's cold, oxygen-deprived environment, a new lineage could be formed.
Just as the No. 3 Magic Rice and bananas did, all the No. 3 Magic Rice that grew in the Master Plane had a common ancestor, and to an even greater extreme, bananas around the world were all part of its distributed self.
Faced with such valuable crops, what time did Ange have for anything else? There would surely be others to attend to it.
Anthony offered a smile, summoned the Merging with Divine Soul, and then stepped forward.
This was Anthony's first encounter with a true Ancient God. The previous encounters with Dark Wing and the Goddess of Starfire were not for him to handle, so the impression was not profound. Moreover, neither Dark Wing nor the Goddess of Starfire possessed anything close to the might of the Devil King of Purgatory.
When the Goddess of Starfire wasn't gathering Starfire, she was just like a harmless cat-loving lady. Dark Wing was an offshoot of the Abyssal Big Mouth, its might depending on how much power the Abyssal Big Mouth had channeled into it.
Only the Purgatory Twins were Ancient Gods born for battle, with fierce appearances and wild strength. The spreading blood mist from the Purgatory Twin carried an intense polluting effect; even the withered wood on the ground would slowly decay under its corruption, and this wood came from the Divine Tree remnants that had endured five hundred thousand years.
If any creature could survive the corrosion of the blood mist and remain Undead, it had the potential to evolve into a Demon, and that was how the Demon race came into being.
Of course, the blood fog isn't just released for no reason. It only appears when the Purgatory Twins are in a battle state and their power overflows.
Just now, when the Little Demon King approached, it was in a battle state, so there was a trail of blood fog. Now, although it has withdrawn from that state, the blood fog still lingers. The main reason is–he's doing it on purpose.
Anthony could have guessed the reasoning with his toes: You can't even withstand my aura, what makes you think you can stand on equal footing with me?
He wanted to put everyone in their place.
But, indeed, the Little Demon King had the credentials. The pressure it was putting on Anthony was very real. Without manifesting his Divine Soul, Anthony would have had no way to resist the contamination of the blood fog. This was the first time he had truly felt the prestige of an Ancient God.
But the next moment, Anthony almost laughed out loud. He saw that Big Cat had somehow made it to the ground, and while the Little Demon King wasn't paying attention, Big Cat sneakily poked its paw and a huge chunk of the blood fog just whooshed away into nothingness.
Just like that, the imposing aura was gone. Anthony, struggling to hold back his laughter, said, “Greetings, Devil King of Purgatory. I am the Sovereign's follower, Anthony. This is the God of Knowledge, Negris, the Sovereign's mouthpiece. The Lord is currently studying the relics of the Tree of Ten Thousand Realms, and I will explain the specifics to you.”
After a pause, Anthony added, “There is one thing I must advise you on. It would be best to retract your blood fog. If it comes into contact with the Lord's crops, you're going to have trouble.”
After another pause, Anthony said once more, “If you don't retract it soon, it'll all be gone.”
The Little Demon King was somewhat baffled. He looked at the blood fog that was about to disperse in front of Ange and then back at Anthony, frowning: This human doesn't seem to be deceiving me. Trouble? What sort of trouble? It'll all be gone?
He wanted to defy him, but recalling Ange's mysterious trickery, he hesitated for a moment and then decided it'd be wise to listen and retract it.
He stretched out his palm, and with a clench facing upwards, the blood fog around him swiftly converged into his palm, forming a blood-red pearl.
However, the Little Demon King quickly noticed something strange. The amount of blood fog was too little. He had a rough idea of how much he had released, but now why was there only half left?
Turning his head to look behind him, he saw that it was spotlessly clean. Where was the blood fog?
Where is my Purgatory fog? Confused, he turned his head, and then got a shock–to see that his palm was spotlessly clean, with no sign of the blood-colored pearl.
Who? Who? Who could have stolen something from his palm without him noticing? Whoever could quietly take the blood pearl could just as quietly sever his hand. Without figuring out who it was, the Little Demon King wouldn't dare lower his guard, even when squatting over a pit.
Was it him? His gaze fell on Anthony, who had a mysterious and profound smile, then shifted to Negris, who wore a similar smile, or was it them?
Then his gaze moved on to Lightning and Big Cat, who had tucked its paws inside its chest. Could it be them? Huh, that cat looks a bit like the one nurtured by the Goddess of Starfire.
His eyes glided past Little Angel, Little Zombie, Aesclis, and others, eventually returning to Anthony, full of shock and suspicion.
Though he didn't know who exactly, there was no doubt that there was someone here who could silently take things right out from his palm.
He had intended to showcase his power so these people recognized the gap between them, urging them to respect him more in the future. Instead, they had turned the tables and sent a powerful message to him. But who exactly was it?
Anthony and Negris wore faces of enigmatic smiles, yet they were secretly communicating through their souls: Big Cat, after absorbing the Hole Bug's burrow, has become even faster at swiping things. This Little Demon King looks quite frightened. Watch how I scare him.
PS: Do you have to work tomorrow? Congratulations!
