Chapter 1131: Chapter 695 Always Misunderstood the Ancient God Chapter 1131: Chapter 695 Always Misunderstood the Ancient God Negris was surprised as he projected along with Ange's thoughts, “Huh? You've made progress, you didn't kill him immediately but asked for clarity first?”
One must admit that this was progress for Ange. Although his tone was angry, it was clearly an interrogative sentence; he did not act immediately.
This was crucial because Ange's Soul Brand had already been imprinted onto the Little Demon King's consciousness, establishing a Soul Contact, which allowed Ange to project himself. This involuntary Soul Contact meant that as soon as Ange had a thought, the consciousness of the Little Demon King could be wiped out, leaving him without the ability to even retaliate.
Luckily, Ange wasn't impulsive, or else their painstakingly successful ambush on the Ancient God Hunter might have ended in a significant loss.
“It's not like that, not like that. How many times have I said it? Turus is just a High-level devil. Above him are the Great Demon, the Devil King, the Demon Lord, and they are dozens of levels apart. Purgatory Twins here are Ancient Gods; they may look like demons but are absolutely not demons, at worst they are ancestors of the demons,” hurried Negris in an attempt to soothe.
“Who are you? Who are you?! How are you inside me? Get out, get out! Go out now!” The Little Demon King screamed in panic, struggling desperately.
He felt something branding onto his consciousness. Although he could recognize the brand, he was unwilling to believe it. If it really was what he recognized, the implications would be too severe. He would rather believe it was all a hallucination, just a hallucination.
Unfortunately, it wasn't a hallucination; Negris's voice rang clearly in his mind:
“Purgatory Twins, hello there, I am the God of Knowledge, you can call me Negris. This is our Master God, Ange. Oh, the Goddess of Starfire told us that you Ancient God Hunters call those who defy the First Law of the Void 'Law Breakers,' so this one here is Law Breaker Ange. Weren't you looking for him? How polite of you, now he has come to find you.”
The Little Demon King's mind buzzed intensely, unable to digest the overload of information from Negris's speech. So this Ange was the Law Breaker who had defied the First Law of the Void?
The edict of the Void Will had forced the Abyssal Big Mouth to emerge from its lair, the Law Breaker called Ange?
The news was relayed by the Goddess of Starfire? Why would Starfire reveal this? Was Starfire captured? The Goddess of Starfire got caught by them?
The Little Demon King's eyes widened in shock, stupefied by the news. God, what kind of existence was the Abyssal Big Mouth dealing with?
The Goddess of Starfire was the strongest among these Ancient God Hunters in terms of sheer destructive power, even stronger than Dark Wing. Yet, such a powerful being was captured by them?
They also, with a method beyond his understanding, sealed a Soul Brand inside a Blank God Statue. He had checked very carefully but discovered nothing until the consciousness transfer took place and it erupted suddenly, already branded onto his consciousness.
Although he was reluctant to believe it, compared to the even more incredible information contained in Negris's words, this physical experience of the brand was somewhat easier to confirm.
The Little Demon King's consciousness froze, and after a long moment, he struggled to speak, “Is this… is this a Soul Brand? Did you forcibly establish a Soul Contact with me?”
Ange nodded.
The Little Demon King asked with difficulty, “How… how did you manage to do that?”
“Like this, like this, and like this; that's how,” Ange described simply.
“…” The Little Demon King, who did not understand, pondered for a while and then asked, “Can I break it?”
Ange shook his head.
In fact, Ange didn't need to shake his head; from the moment the Soul Brand was etched onto his consciousness, the Little Demon King had already been struggling desperately, but alas, it was all in vain, without the slightest movement.
He kept talking to Ange, hoping to distract him long enough to break the soul connection, but unfortunately, Ange didn't seem very focused, and apparently was not actively maintaining it, yet the soul contact remained unshaken.
The Little Demon King despaired and painfully asked, “What do I need to do for you to let me go?”
It was Negris's turn to step in, chuckling as he said, “What's this about letting go? From now on, we are accomplices, fighting battles and breaking laws together. We are all Law Breakers now.”
“No, no, I don't want to be a Law Breaker, I don't want a Soul Brand, let me go, let go of me now!” The Little Demon King desperately struggled.
If it were so easy to struggle free from a soul connection, there would be no such thing as the Undead Empire. Negris didn't bother convincing him, just watched with a smile, and so did Ange, holding down the soul connection, letting him wail without being able to entertain the slightest different thought.
Like a spoiled child, the more attention they get, the louder they wail. But without attention, the wailing gets boring pretty quick. The Little Demon King faced reality and turned to Ange, pleading, “Please, make a condition for me, how can I earn my release? I will surely abide to satisfy you.”
Negris laughed, “Under the bondage of the soul connection, you must satisfy us whether you are released or not.”
“No, if you can't release me, even if I die, I won't cooperate with you,” the Little Demon King declared.
“Hehe, having such thoughts proves that you've never experienced a soul connection. Ange, make him itch,” Negris said, still smiling.
The moment Ange's gaze landed on his consciousness, the Little Demon King immediately felt numb and itchy all over, as if countless little bugs were crawling on his skin. The problem was, he was still in a state of consciousness and had no physical body.
The Little Demon King never knew there could be a feeling more torturous than pain. This itching and numbness penetrated deep into his bones, making him wish he could rip them out.
After enduring a few dozen seconds, the Little Demon King changed his mind, “I'll cooperate, cooperate, I'll work with you, remove it, remove it!”
Negris cruelly said, “Too late. Anthony instructed that the first punishment must be memorable, making your knees weaken just recalling it. Let's start with ten minutes.”
The Little Demon King's vision darkened, wishing he could faint. He could barely endure a few seconds, how could he endure ten minutes?
Ten minutes later, the Little Demon King was as obedient as could be, meekly responding to any questions.
Back in his original body, Negris couldn't resist sharing with everyone, “He calls himself an Ancient God yet can't even last ten minutes, showing no resolve whatsoever.”
Drosa, surprised, said, “Lord Negris, could you be misunderstanding something? Why do Ancient Gods need firm resolve?”
“'Ancient' in Ancient Gods signifies age-old, like ancient creatures, it's merely a quantifier, while 'God' implies immense power. In common usage, there's hardly anything that surpasses a god's power, hence the translation to Ancient God, which has nothing to do with your definition of God.”
“The correct understanding of Ancient God should be 'creatures that have inherited great power from ancient times until now,'” Drosa explained.
Negris was stunned, “Ah? Is that what it means? But aren't the Goddess of Starfire's World-destroying Starfire and Abyssal Big Mouth's swallowing of sunlight Divine Techniques?”
“Of course not, those are their innate powers, entirely different from your Divine Techniques. As long as you possess enough power and know how to use it, you too can swallow sunlight or wield World-destroying Starfire,” Drosa replied.
So, that was it. Negris realized he had always misunderstood the Ancient Gods, thinking they were ancient deities, but they were not the same thing at all.
This meant that the traits he understood of the gods could not be applied to the Ancient Gods at all, no wonder these Ancient Gods lacked any divinity.
Negris decided to re-examine these Ancient Gods later but for now wanted to study the “bug hole” that they had just acquired.
