Chapter 1099: Chapter 663 I Object! Chapter 1099: Chapter 663 I Object! Letting someone with Locke's personality manage a huge organization is like asking Rogge to review lyric poetry–utterly fatal. That it didn't blow up sooner is all thanks to his sturdy willpower.
Now things are looking up. Someone is willing to take over, someone to secure his position for him, and what's better, these are all veterans from the Resting Palace. Locke couldn't wait to throw in the towel.
He claimed he was going to guard Your Majesty's body and surely, you can't expect him to guard a body while also managing a massive organization in another world, can you?
So, during this past half year, while Ange has been fixing up the Conch Shell here, Locke's been fussing with the Sorcerer Alliance over there. Just waiting for the moment silver coin got the hang of the whole setup, and then he'd high-tail it out of there.
Of course, Negris wouldn't admit he got duped; he just claimed he persuaded Locke through painstaking earnestness to hand over the reins and retire in seclusion, passing the Sorcerer Alliance on to Lord Ange of the two realms blah blah blah.
“Alright already, we know you got duped. Silver coin gave us a heads-up a while ago that Locke didn't want the job anymore. Figured he'd set you up to take over and even made a bet on it. The odds were one-to-one point two against you being duped, and one-to-five against. We all placed our bets.” Anthony, who was dragged along to take over the Sorcerer Alliance in the Star Burst Plane, said.
“What??! You guys made bets on me? Don't you have any humanity?!” Negris was furious enough to jump his feet.
Anthony shrugged, “Silver coin isn't human, so why does it need humanity?”
Unable to best Anthony, Negris could only sulk, but after a while, curiosity got the better of him, “What did you all bet on? Did anyone bet on me not getting duped?”
“Yeah, the Witch and the Great Sage bet on you not getting duped because they thought Locke was too straightforward to dupe anybody. Ah, but now they regret it.” Anthony sighed.
“Ha ha ha, li–…” Negris first reacted with schadenfreude, but then he quickly realized that their loss was because he got tricked. Wasn't he the one who was most embarrassed?
Damn it, he had been fooled by that simple-minded Locke, and now he was even more frustrated.
After simmering in anger for a while, everyone arrived, and they all set off for the Resting Abyss to use the world passage there to travel to the Star Burst Plane.
The original world passage was in the Resting Palace, but with increasing traffic, it became quite chaotic. So, Ange moved the world passage to the world transfer station next to the Resting Abyss. After passing through the world passage, you could immediately use the Teleportation Array to travel to any Plane.
The Conch Plane, however, was a bit of a hassle. It was much too far from the Resting Abyss, and the energy required for teleportation was considerable. Beyond a certain distance, it wasn't even possible to establish a connection.
According to tests, the world transfer station had a maximum teleportation range of five million kilometers. Any further and it lost connection. So, if the Conch Plane moved further away in the future, travel between the two places would be a massive issue, unless Little Sapling could sprout another bud.
Little Sapling was, at present, able to produce only two buds, one planted in Iron Sand City and the other in the Resting Abyss, forming a world passage to connect the two worlds. However, the God of Life said that Little Sapling's potential was far more than that, and as long as it could produce more buds, it could extend the world passage further.
“How far it can extend mainly depends on your power. It is one with you, and your strength is its strength,” the God of Life said earnestly, suffused with expectation.
“Oh, I've got enough land for now,” Ange replied nonchalantly, meaning he had enough ground between the two worlds for the time being, and would worry about the rest later.
That response was almost enough to push the ever-nature-lovin' God of Life to the brink of smacking him.
Walking through the long world passage and seeing light, he had arrived at Iron Sand City. Ange was already there, idly watching two Cave Dwarves arm-wrestle.
Anthony couldn't help asking, “You can now project your consciousness without the need for the Black Crystal Body, but why can't your physical body come here?”
Negris explained, “Because he is the fulcrum of the world channel. The world channel opened by Little Sapling draws its power from him. If his body crosses over, the fulcrum disappears; hence, he can't pass through the world channel, just as it is impossible for one to fly into the sky by stepping on one's own feet.”
“Stepping on one's own feet? Like this?” Anthony stepped on one foot with the other and, pitter-patter, flew into the sky.
Negris said irritably, “Let me put it another way, it's like no one can lift themselves by pulling their own hair.”
Anthony smiled and said, “Although I can, I won't fall for your trick, pulling my own hair.”
“Aaargh, dammit, you reaper, I curse you to have no paper when you go to the bathroom,” Negris said viciously.
After some horseplay, everyone had arrived. Ange reached single-handedly into the Resting Palace and pulled out the bunch of items given by Locke. After checking them, he picked out a wand.
Glancing at it, a rush of information flooded into his soul, immediately making him understand how to use the wand.
Walking to a spacious area outside the city, he held the wand. The Holy Light flickered, a strong Holy Light infused into the wand, causing it to open and elongate, just like the Staff of Heaven.
Ange jabbed the wand into the ground and a beam of light shot into the high sky, reaching into the Void.
Negris spat out a mouthful of old blood, “The wand given by Locke, why must it be activated with Holy Light?!”
Anthony looked on with a sudden realization, “No wonder I couldn't find the location of the Secret Church. Kvada, Loki has sheltered them. Undead, magicians, Church, all under Locke's jurisdiction; no wonder he wanted to skedaddle.”
With Agli's help, Anthony had already grasped the details of the Church of Light in the Star Burst Plane, but he could never locate the Secret Church. He had assumed it was in some remote Abyss Dimension, until now, when it dawned on him, aside from being protected by Locke, what plane could escape his search?
This answer was too incredible, and it wasn't until Ange pulled out this wand that he had the epiphany.
As the pillar of light ascended, half an hour later, a special sorcerer's ladder, the Tower of Annihilation owned by Locke, moved to their location, descending slowly along the beam of light.
Upon reaching Ange's side, the base of the Tower of Annihilation opened, and a human hurried out with a bowed back, running up to greet them: “Distinguished Lord of Both Worlds, Truk awaits your arrival under orders.”
It was clear he knew that Locke had handed over the Tower of Annihilation to Ange.
“Truk? Archbishop Truk?” Anthony immediately recalled the name.
Truk looked up and scrutinized Anthony for a moment before realizing, “You must be Pope Anthony, if I'm not mistaken. Your fame has been rather incessant lately; I never imagined that during the time Locke and I were trapped within the Annihilation Boundary, you managed to completely upend our Church of Light. Impressive indeed.”
“What do you mean by 'upend'?” Anthony said discontentedly, “In the name of the sacred, I protect the Light and continue the true light doctrine, God's spokesperson on earth.”
Truk was momentarily speechless. Yes, the man's position was higher, his status greater; the Church was indeed his own, so how could it be called 'upended'? It should be considered a rightful succession.
Fortunately for Truk, he didn't need to feel awkward for long. Three more sorcerer's ladders were moving in, descending slowly. During the descent, Lainas's booming voice was heard from within one ladder:
“I object, I object to handing over the Sorcerer Alliance to you outsiders. Even if the Lord of Annihilation is setting off on a journey, the Alliance's chief should be elected from among our own council members.”
