Chapter 1759: The Ancient Immortal Abode, Another Farewell (Part 2)
At their level of cultivation, treasures that could actually aid in their advancement were extremely rare. Opportunities like discovering an ancient Immortal Abode left behind by a Golden Immortal were virtually impossible to come by—even within the Ancient Realm.
That's precisely why the Golden Immortals of various territories chose to set aside their grudges temporarily and secretly convened for a private Golden Immortal assembly. During that meeting, they shared the anomalous occurrences reported within their domains.
Through this exchange, they managed to triangulate the location of the ancient Immortal Abode. An agreement was reached: when the time came, each would rely on their own abilities to claim whatever they could.
But they were all seasoned immortals with countless years of experience. Who among them would truly trust the others?
As expected, just one day after the meeting, someone tried to sneak off early in an attempt to locate the Immortal Abode for themselves.
This blatant betrayal naturally enraged the others. The Golden Immortals from each region immediately took action, triggering a chaotic battle in the void beyond the realms—a war that had yet to end even now.
“You mean… the battle among the Golden Immortals is still ongoing?” Jiang Chengxuan asked, astonished. He looked toward the elderly immortal before him in disbelief.
“But you're clearly right here…”
“Haha… Don't be alarmed,” the elder chuckled with some embarrassment in his eyes. “The one before you is merely a projection—a clone of my true self.”
Jiang Chengxuan's eyes lit with realization and curiosity as he regarded the elder anew.
“That battle… we old fogeys fought with real fire in our hearts. Every trick in the book was used,” the elder sighed. “In the end, we all locked each other down with powerful divine arts, unable to retreat nor press forward.”
“With the Ancient Immortal Abode on the verge of opening, we had no choice but to call a temporary truce. We each split off a clone to return to our territories and prepare for the expedition.”
Now it all made sense. Jiang Chengxuan finally understood why he had been invited.
After all, if a true Golden Immortal were present, they wouldn't need someone like him. But since only clones were returning, each of them sought reliable allies to bolster their chances. It was a calculated move—one meant to maximize gains in a limited timeframe.
None could guarantee that the others wouldn't do the same, bringing in their own reinforcements.
“In light of all this,” the elder asked casually, “what do you think, young friend?”
He held Jiang Chengxuan in high regard, especially after hearing from Yun Nanfeng about the daring rescue in the demonic sect and Jiang's ability to suppress Yun Zhuang despite their difference in cultivation.
From Jiang's possession of the damaged Desolate Heaven Scroll to his unwavering resolve, every detail impressed the elder deeply. Combined with his brotherhood-level bond with Yun Nanfeng, Jiang was, in the elder's eyes, the ideal ally.
Yet out of respect—and Golden Immortal pride—he refused to force Jiang into accepting.
After all, though the opportunity was enticing, it came with enormous risk. Several powerful factions would be involved. Who could say what dangers the Immortal Abode itself held?
Jiang understood these intricacies. So rather than answer immediately, he pondered in silence.
But in the end, he made his choice, holding true to his nature. He clasped his fists respectfully and said:
“I understand, Elder Yun. I've never seen an Ancient Immortal Abode before… I'd very much like to witness it.”
The old man's eyes sparkled with delight, and he burst into hearty laughter.
“Good! Good! Very good!”
“I knew I wasn't wrong about you! Young friend, you have courage! Yun Nanfeng is lucky to have met you!”
Jiang only smiled faintly in response, though the flame of battle was already burning in his eyes.
Had the real Golden Immortals been coming, he might've hesitated. But with just their clones involved, how could he shrink back?
Strike when the time is right—that was his philosophy.
“An Ancient Immortal Abode?!”
Back at their temporary quarters in the Cloudmist Immortal Sect, Jiang Chengxuan shared the news with Shen Ruyan.
Her beautiful eyes widened in shock.
“There are also three other Golden Immortal factions involved,” he explained, “but only their clones are participating.”
Shen Ruyan was stunned at first, then visibly relaxed. She gave Jiang a slight glare of reproach.
At first, she thought four actual Golden Immortals were going to engage. No matter how confident she was in Jiang's abilities, such a scenario would have been far too perilous.
Even as a Celestial Immortal, she understood the immeasurable gulf between Golden Immortals and Mystical Immortals. It was a chasm even greater than the one between Mystical and Celestial ranks.
Four Golden Immortals? Jiang would be facing certain death.
“My husband… even if they're only clones, don't force yourself. I only wish for your safe return,” she said softly, her eyes full of worry.
Jiang's heart warmed at her concern. He gently pulled her into his embrace, brushing his fingers through her hair.
He couldn't bring her along on such a dangerous journey, and for that, he felt deeply guilty.
Ever since she broke through to Celestial Immortal, they'd been seeing less and less of each other. Time together had become a rare luxury.
“I'm nearing the late stage of Celestial Immortal,” Shen Ruyan suddenly declared with determination. “Once you leave, I'll return to the Desolate Star Immortal Domain to enter closed-door cultivation and break through.”
Her gaze was resolute. With the help of the Ninefold Bodhi, her progress had been rapid. She cultivated day and night—just to keep pace with him.
“Good. If I find something that helps with the breakthrough to Mystical Immortal, I'll bring it back for you,” Jiang replied warmly.
The shattered realm fragments—he'd give those to her once she reached the late Celestial stage. And if he found a treasure that helped with the transition to Mystical Immortal, her breakthrough would come swiftly.
“My love… I must go.”
Several days later, after helping her consolidate her realm, Jiang Chengxuan prepared to depart.
They walked together to the inner sanctum of the Cloudmist Immortal Sect, where Yun Nanfeng and his family awaited.
“Brother Chengxuan! May fortune smile on you! I hope you return with a bounty!” Yun Nanfeng shouted with encouragement.
“Be careful, young friend!” his mother added with concern.
Clearly, they knew about the expedition and had come to send him off.
With their current strength, they couldn't accompany him—this was a farewell.
“Fairy Shen,” Yun Nanfeng's mother stepped forward, her robes flowing elegantly, “this is a small parting gift from the Cloudmist Immortal Clan. I hope you'll accept it.”
She handed over a storage ring.
In the cultivation world, people were used to partings. Once someone left, who knew when they would meet again? Decades? Centuries? Millennia?
Having reunited, they naturally cherished the farewell.
Only after sharing these goodbyes did Jiang Chengxuan wave to them and head off—to meet with the waiting Elder Yun and step into the unknown, seeking fortune in the fabled Ancient Immortal Abode.
