First Quest (3)
The adventurer in front of Vivian was done processing his quest and stepped away from the counter before leaving.
Vivian stepped forward and handed over the Quest Paper to the receptionist.
While the receptionist was reading the Quest Paper, Vivian swept her gaze around the counter.
On top of the counter, there was a pen, a book that looked like a logbook and a green-colored oblong-shaped crystal with rough edges that was as large as an adult's head supported by a platform to make it stand vertically.
The receptionist put down the Quest Paper and looked at Vivian.
"The quest is a Copper Rank Quest. You are to gather 15 Bukaroo tails, the reward is 20 copper coins, and the time limit is 3 days. Do you accept this quest?"
"Yes."
"Please remember that once you accept this quest, the time limit will immediately start without any exceptions. And if you fail to deliver the items within the time limit, you won't receive any reward and it will be listed in your record that you failed the quest, leaving a bad mark on your record which will affect your promotion points. Do you still want to accept this quest?"
"Yes."
The receptionist picked up her pen and began writing on the logbook.
"Do you have a party or are you alone?"
"Alone."
"What's your name?"
"Vivian."
"Last name?"
"None."
"Your name is V-I-V-I-A-N. Correct?"
"Yes."
"Your rank?"
"Copper I."
"And your Class?"
"Thief."
"Okay, please touch the Memory Crystal."
Memory Crystal…?
Vivian glanced at the green crystal that was as large as an adult's head on top of the counter.
Is that it...?
She didn't know how much touching was required so she just let her fingertips of her right hand on top of the crystal.
Her brows knitted together because nothing happened, or nothing happened that she was aware of.
However, when the receptionist touched the crystal, it emitted a faint white glow and details of the quest entered Vivian's mind. And among the details, the image of the Bukaroo and its tail also appeared inside her head.
So it really was those fucking birds…
The receptionist pulled her hand away and then flipped the logbook.
"Please sign here," she said as she pointed at one section and her other hand offering Vivian the pen.
"I-I don't know how to write…"
"Any mark will do."
"Okay."
Vivian took the pen and began writing.
She didn't dare to use any alphabet or sign that she knew from her original world and made a nonsensical sign. She drew a straight line from left to right rising vertically, went back to left with a u-like symbol, and then rose a little bit from the top and made a straight line but hitting downwards, making an upside down J.
Vivian handed over the pen back to the receptionist.
"You have officially accepted the quest. Please gather the items and submit them here within 3 days starting now."
"Okay, thank you so much."
With that, Vivian stepped to the side, turned around and headed for the exit.

As Vivian stepped outside of the Adventurer's Guild building, she let out a sigh of relief.
I guess that went well...
And I finally have a source of income…
20 copper coins for 15 tails of that bird…
I was expecting to be at least 50 copper coins…
Well, at least I have enough for 10 copper coins for 1 night at that tavern, 2 copper coins for a bucket of hot water and damp cloth, and 6 copper coins for 2 meals...
Assuming, of course, that I complete the quest…
She raised her head and looked at the sky.
"I need to complete it before noon so that I can take another quest…"
"And once I have enough money, I also need to buy a watch -- if such a thing exists here…"
She headed for the city's gate that she entered from yesterday.

Vivian was walking and was about half a mile away from the city gate.
I think I have everything I need…
Vivian thought about buying a small bag or wrapper for the tails of the Bukaroo bird but decided not to in the end because of her lack of funds.
She took out a square-shaped thing that was wrapped with a cloth and tied with a knot.
I've been looking around, but I really can't see any trash cans around…
She swept her gaze around her surroundings.
As far as she knows, the thing on her hand was supposed to be food. However, when she tasted it yesterday, although it didn't smell bad -- in fact, it smelled like oats and bread -- it tasted rotten.
I wanted to use this cloth to wrap the Bukaroo tails and keep them inside my bag…
Tch.
She clicked her tongue and then put the food back inside her bag and resumed walking.
As much as I don't want to litter, I'll just this outside…
Her eyes swept around the surrounding forestry from the distance.
I also need to find a stick just like how I fought those birds yesterday…
I think I will need 2 just to be sure…

Back in her original world, Vivian had no interest in such things. After all, the era she was living there wasn't the medieval period and she lived a safe and normal life.
However, it really is weird…
Are Bukaroos really not aggressive…?'
Maybe it has something to do with the lore [Nemesis of Beasts]…?
I remember that fox, that tree or trunk monster and that bird weren't aggressive when I haven't yet acquired that lore title…
Or maybe I'm just imagining things…?
Well, whatever is the case, at least I don't have to go around chasing them…
And whether or not it's true that the reason why the non-aggressive monsters are now aggressive to me, there's no way I'm going to do that special quest given to me by that receptionist…
A thought suddenly appeared inside her head, causing her to stop walking.

If it's really true that non-aggressive monsters are now aggressive to me, what if I encountered a powerful monster, like a dragon…?

I mean, can it be classified as a beast...?
She recalled the description written on the [Nemesis of Beasts].
But everything is an animal, right...?

Can insects be classified as an animal...?
Whatever, but what if, right…?
I mean, what if I encountered a powerful monster...?
She covered her mouth with her hand.
Holy shit, I'm going to die if what I suspect is true...
She then recalled her [Otherworldly] Lore which grants [Growth].
The only thing I can do is just be more powerful…
There's no other choice but to grind like crazy...
And when that happens, let's see if those monsters can do anything about it…
Hell, I'll probably even bully them first…
She swept her gaze at the surrounding forests.
Since you guys want to play that game, starting from now on, all of you will be nothing but my experience points…!
And if I have to kill every last monster, animal or anyone in the world to ensure my safety, then so be it...!
She resumed walking and heading over to the forest to hunt for 15 Bukaroo tails.
