Dungeon Core Online 139 Chapter 139

Chapter 139

SoulDemon

Level 40

Phantom Blade

Normally when James saw a party leader, it was usually the tank, the healer, or a ranged dps. This time around though, the party's obvious leader, was a melee class. Not only that, he seemed to be a melee dps that almost didn't even need his other party members. Of course, when you were level 40 and had access to up to three subclasses worth of boosts and skills, well it kind of helped boost your power.

James had never heard of a Phantom Blade. It didn't pull up on the normal skill tress that's the developers had released within DCO, meaning this class was a unique or secret class. Which also meant, he also had an even greater edge on the other players. Because from what James knew of secret and unique classes, they often came with really strong abilities, except for maybe acupuncturist, James had yet to see Gno-More do much with that class.

"Oh, I bet he feels special." Rue was watching the carnage take place in the swamp as well, her earlier indignation about James cutting her off gone. The party of 5 was walking calmly through the swamp, not even attempting to make their way onto the wooden paths and were killing everything in their paths.

This was likely in part due to the fact that one of the level 39s was a Trapper, a subclass chosen at level 30 by someone who was already a rogue. The trapper had a passive that could alert them to any trap that was a lower level than they were. The way the game treated traps was that they were equal to the level of the highest basic mob per level. Mimics, of course, were treated as their appropriate level. Which meant the traps James had on his third floor were all currently level 34, while his mimics were level 75. So, other than the mimics, the Trap expert was guaranteed to be able to locate and disable any and every trap the party came across.

The group's other level 39 player was their tank. He was currently walking in the middle of the party, with a massive wall of shields floating around him, and his party. The ability, shield wall, had a 30foot radius, and created magical shields that would constantly fly around the tank and protect anything within it from attacks with a 50% chance. The class able to use such an ability, was called a Centurion. Of course, the shields that were summoned by the ability took on the same shape and color as the shield the user was wearing, meaning the Centurion, whose name was SpinToWin, had half a dozen rainbow colored jawbreaker shields floating around the group.

Between SpinToWin's defensive ability and the detection skills of the trapper named Crikey, they didn't have to worry about triggering any traps or getting ambushed. Which meant the other two members of the party, a Chaotic Sorcerer and High Cleric of Light, had nothing to fear. The Chaotic Sorcerer was simply launching colorful and crazy looking spells left and right, while the High Cleric kept an eye on his party members' health bars and statuses to cleanse any debuff or stun the Funky Monkey's or any of James's other mobs could launch.

Meanwhile, SoulDemon moved soundlessly atop the freaking swamp waters. His form seemed to almost lose its substance as he moved, making his image, while still extremely colorful, fade in and out. If you looked at him the few times he paused, it was almost as if there were merely a memory of some form there, as he nearly became completely invisible. In his hands, he wielded a dagger and sword, both made out of a white and red striped candy James figured was a candy cane. However, the weapons also seemed to fade, and at the faintest movement or gust of air, they blurred and seemed to dissipate.

In and of itself, the level 40 player looked pretty awesome, even decked out in the candied armor like he was. But as James watched him take down mob after mob, James realized he would be extremely problematic to face on the battlefield. First, because it seemed he had an innate dodge ability, meaning attacks made towards him actually seemed to have a chance to completely pass through his phantom form. Second, whenever he did make attacks, his weapons seemed to completely bypass any and all armor or attempts to block. Meaning he was dealing true damage, which was a tank's biggest nightmare.

Of course, the most terrifying thing about this party, was what James slowly came to realize as he watched them. The two level 35 members were not actually a part of their normal party. No, the way the Centurion, Trapper, and Phantom Blade interacted showed they were used to pairing together. The other two had just been dragged along for the purpose of the invasion. Which meant these three had been climbing as fast as they could, within BLANKs overly difficult dungeon. By only having the three of them, they gained experience at a faster rate, which was why they could climb faster than any others, and why James was certain they were the exception, not the norm, for BLANKs dungeon. A very good thing, because if there had been many more players like this, James would have been growing concerned for his players.

That being said, he was still growing rather concerned for a certain group of players hanging out on his third floor. Stryke Force had sent ten members through the invasion gate, leaving five players behind, along with the dynamic duo of Axel42 and FlashFyre. They were currently preparing to defend the floor from the invaders, as it seemed Stryker123, the level 31 Paladin leader of Stryke Force, had given a platinum coin to the shrine of Yarx. He could see the enemies that were the invaders on his map approaching, and he was working to establish a defensive line to try and bring them down.

"Say Rue." James watched the group establishing themselves, trying to set up a proper ambush for the five invaders laying waste to James's third floor.

"Say Glyax." She replied, already smiling. James knew the AI had spent enough time with him to know what he was thinking.

"Think we should give them a BLANK style welcome?" James was already working to take control of the instance. Obviously, normally his dungeon floors controlled themselves with the AIs and programs set in place, as well as whatever unique style instructions James opted for with regards to his mobs. However, he still always retained the ability to personally control any instance he set his eyes on. It just took a lot of focus, turning the game away from a free for all simulation and more like a real time strategy game.

"It would be rude of us not too." Rue chuckled darkly, her eyes flashing with excitement. "Otherwise, these guys are going to start spreading terrible rumors that you're just an easy knockoff of what a true dungeon should be." Her words were meant in jest, but they did kind of sting. James was in no way shape or form a pushover. Granted, he wanted players to enjoy his dungeon, so had avoided making things too ridiculously powerful, though he had added in some trollish upgrades on more than one occasion.

Also, while James did have a modicum of difficulty to his floor, he knew BLANKs dungeon would always be able to be more overpowered and difficult to his own. That was because there was a downside to the random dungeon style of mobs. He was stuck with only the ability to summon tier level specific mobs. Which meant he could only upgrade them a certain amount of times, before he ran out of upgrade points for them.

Dungeons that had a single element, not only unlocked new mobs every tier, but could also bring over their lower leveled versions of their mobs, and them on the higher floors. This gave them access to even more upgrades and abilities. James could only imagine how fearsome his dickens would be if he could give them tier 2 and tier 3 upgrades.

"Right, well then. Let's see just how good these guys are." And with that, James switched from playing Dungeon Simulator to Dungeon Craft 2057.
