Chapter 1145: Chapter 1148: Accompanying Richard Coldwell to See His Ex-Girlfriend (2) Chapter 1145: Chapter 1148: Accompanying Richard Coldwell to See His Ex-Girlfriend (2) “It's been a while,” the girl greeted first, settling herself across from Richard Coldwell and Lily.
Despite appearing like someone timid, she lifted her brows and smiled at Lily.
“I'm Martha Barnes, nice to meet you.”
Soft and fluffy–this name really suited her.
She looked just as soft and fluffy, making one want to cradle her in the palm of their hands.
Lily gave a slight nod, “Hello, I'm Lily Redington, just call me Lily.”
For some reason, Lily felt an instinctive urge to get closer to the adorable girl before her.
But… was this the type that Richard liked?
She had assumed that Richard would prefer someone with a cool and aloof temperament.
“Lily, that's a nice name. Then you can call me Erina,” the girl said, her lips curving up into a pleasant arc.
When she smiled, it was like the warmth of the sun, seemingly capable of melting ice.
Lily paused, suddenly understanding why Richard seemed different around this girl.
She did look very special.
“Erina…” The man who had been ignored all along finally spoke up.
His cold voice seemed to have melted in the warmth, lacking its usual chill.
Lily felt that Miss Martha Barnes was pleasant toward her and didn't seem like a difficult person to communicate with.
If Richard really liked her, even if there were misunderstandings, they could be cleared up by talking it out.
Just as she thought to help, she heard the man beside her say,
“I'm getting married, and Lily is my fiancee. I invited you out today so you could meet her in advance. On the day of the wedding, I hope you can come.”
Richard's words almost made Lily faint.
Wasn't he supposed to like her? Why would he say such a thing!
It seemed right that Richard was usually a man of few words–if he talked more, who knows how many people he would offend.
Just as Lily was about to help clarify, someone pinched her thigh fiercely.
She suppressed a groan and bore the pain.
That darned Richard, using this tactic to stop her!
“Oh, is that so?”
Martha Barnes' beautiful eyes dimmed slightly but quickly regained brightness.
“Then… congratulations to you both.”
She turned to Lily, “Lily, you're very fortunate.”
Her lovely eyes curved, no malice in sight.
Lily did not miss the subtle changes in Martha's expression.
Such a good girl; even though her intertwined fingers were turning white, the look in her eyes towards Lily was still clear and bright.
Lily could tell that Martha's well-wishes weren't disingenuous or spiteful.
She was sincerely, from the bottom of her heart, wishing Lily and Richard happiness.
Richard frowned, unable to believe that Erina would just watch him marry another woman.
But the confrontation and accusations he was expecting never happened.
Martha quickly composed herself and then bid farewell to them both.
“Don't worry, I will definitely be on time for the wedding. Well, I have something to do, so I'll go first.”
With that, she stood up and hastily retreated.
“Aren't you going to chase after her?” Lily nudged Richard's elbow.
The man didn't move, only watching silently as the woman disappeared through the coffee shop's entrance.
A long while later, he finally spoke.
“Thanks for today.”
“Sigh, I really can't figure you out. You obviously like her, so why did you speak like that? Don't you know a girl's heart is very fragile, and you simply cannot provoke it?”
Lily felt quite fond of Martha Barnes and couldn't help speaking on her behalf.
Richard, however, kept a stern face: “Erina is not a fragile woman. What is a provocation to ordinary people might be motivation for her.”
“Motivation…” Lily looked at Richard skeptically, “Are you really holding out hope that she will come and object at the wedding?”
