Cyber Wishing Machine?
"Can we really get online like this?" Xiao Bai wondered, incredulous.
Though not a communication specialist , he knew that despite the advancements brought by Paradise Technology, the fundamental model of communication hadn't changed much. It still required troublesome elements like 'base stations' and 'protocols'—it wasn't as simple as just having a Wi-Fi icon.
"Let's try it," he said. "But there's no browser in the programs. The desktop only has 'Settings,' 'Search,' and 'Log' buttons..."
Xiao Bai opened the 'Search' button and typed in 'Browser' to see if there was a corresponding program.
A prompt popped up on the screen:
Corresponding program not loaded. Create now?
Yes
The phone went black again, followed by another stream of data. When it lit up again, a 'Browser' icon had appeared on the desktop.
"Does that mean it wrote a browser from scratch in just a second? How powerful is this thing?"
Xiao Bai opened the browser with a glance. It looked just like any ordinary mobile browser, complete with the usual barrage of ads and news at the bottom.
He selected a video website he used to frequent, and it instantly jumped to the homepage without a moment's delay.
He then randomly picked a video and clicked on it. It loaded instantly and began playing smoothly.
"Watch closely. This man is called Dazhuang..."
"Holy crap! How is this possible? Surfing the web on just a phone, and with such incredible speed? I'm actually in Paradise !"
Normally, maintaining a connection to the outside world from Paradise was both incredibly difficult and highly dependent on luck.
First, the rules and environment of Paradise had to be relatively benign, providing the basic conditions for setting up a network. Then, specialized communication equipment made using Paradise Technology had to be used, and a series of complex procedures carried out by professionals were required to establish any connection to the outside world.
Even then, that was just for basic communication. To actually browse the web like normal was even more complicated.
Unless it's truly necessary, accessing the internet within Paradise is considered a luxury.
Places like the Mecha Academy's training grounds or this research institute have internet access; otherwise, the owner of that tablet wouldn't have installed a gacha game.
"But the signal base station here has long since been reduced to scrap metal. How can phones still get online, and with such fast speeds? What kind of black magic quantum communication is this?"
Xiao Bai marveled at the technology before opening a news website and searching for "Mecha Academy" to see if the attackers had been apprehended.
He scrolled through the news back to last year, but found no relevant articles.
"Is the information being censored? Does the attackers' 'energy' run that deep? An entire class went missing—how can there be no trace of it online?"
Unwilling to give up, Xiao Bai opened the Mecha Academy's website to see if the school had any official statements.
He only found a single announcement:
Class 3, Year 1 Temporarily Deployed for Special Mission
That was Xiao Bai's class.
The content simply repeated the title and added the line "End time to be determined."
The comments below showed no suspicion, with many expressing envy, thinking it was a good opportunity to earn credits, or speculating that they had been selected by some elite unit.
"Several dozen lives, just brushed aside like that?"
Xiao Bai punched a nearby wall in anger, shouting "Keyboard Come!" as he prepared to expose the truth.
But before he could even think of a headline, he shook his head.
"No, that villain's influence is too great. Anything I say will be censored, and revealing I'm still alive might attract further assassination attempts, even endangering my parents..."
He had previously imagined that once he left this place, he would definitely track down that villain and grind him into two dimensions.
But after witnessing the Devil Head's brutality, he had to put that thought on hold for now...
He didn't know if the villain was similarly ruthless, or if there was any connection between them.
"I definitely can't contact my parents or friends directly. I'm not sure if they're being watched. For now, I'll have to figure out how to write some anonymous report letters."
"Wait! Wouldn't emails be traced back too? Unless..."
Xiao Bai opened the search function on his 'phone' and entered "untraceable highly encrypted email."
"No corresponding program loaded. Create?"
Yes.
This time, the 'phone' screen was black for even longer, the data stream falling faster and denser. It took a full five minutes before the screen lit up again, now displaying an "Encrypted Email" icon.
"Is this some kind of cyber wishing machine? Can it generate any program I want?"
Instead of writing the anonymous letter, Xiao Bai entered "bank card balance modifier" into the search bar.
"No corresponding program loaded. Create?"
Yes.
After another blackout, the 'phone' added a mobile payment app, a shopping app, and a gacha game.
"What the hell is this good for? I need something to decrease the balance!"
Xiao Bai grumbled under his breath and tried a more precise description: "A modifier to increase the balance of a bank card."
After the screen went black, the "phone" gained a short video app and a novel writing software.
Xiao Bai: "............"
He had to input an even more precise and clear description: "A modifier that adds 100 million yuan to a bank card with just one click."
This time, the "phone" added a music player. When opened, it contained a lullaby for soothing babies.
"You're telling me to daydream, huh? Is this Wishing Machine even working?"
Xiao Bai, caught between laughter and frustration, made one last attempt with a different approach.
"A hacker program that can breach bank savings systems."
The "phone" displayed a different message:
"No matching program template found. Unable to create."
After these attempts, Xiao Bai had a rough idea of how this "brain in a box" worked.
It could indeed write its own programs and even achieve quantum communication, something that defied conventional science.
However, it couldn't create everything out of thin air; it needed something akin to a 'template'.
Take a bank's savings system, for example. It's hosted on a dedicated internal network, making physical access impossible. Even if quantum communication could be used to infiltrate the internal network, the attack w ouldn't rely on a single program. Instead, it would involve a comprehensive attack system composed of multiple programs, complex tactics, and constant adjustments based on the target's responses. There's no such thing as a fixed template in such scenarios.
In summary, while the Wishing Machine can grant wishes, it's far from omnipotent and prone to misinterpretation...
