Chapter Eight : The Language of Flame

The fire crackled softly in the center of the hut, casting flickering shadows across the thick tome that now lay open before them.

It wasn’t a book anymore.

It was a doorway.

And Anya… was the key.

---

? 1. The First Flamebearer

The first few pages were impossible to read — until Anya touched the center of the open page. Then, with a soft glow, the language began to shift, rearranging itself into words they could understand.

The story began — not with Arjun. Not even with his parents.

But with the original Flamebearer.

> “Before kings had names, before cities had walls, there was one man who stood against the end.”

He lived over ten thousand years ago, a warrior-mage who unified scattered tribes, created languages, and forged an empire spanning the known world. He was the first to channel the “Flame of Truth” — a magic that only the most honest soul could wield without destruction.

And when the world was nearly destroyed by a calamity in the sky, a creature made of dark fire and hatred — The Black Dragon — it was he who fought it off, sacrificing half the continent in the process.

But the magic survived. And with it… his lineage.

---

? 2. Bloodlines and Betrayals

Then came the second part — the pages felt heavier here, emotionally.

The diagrams changed. Now they showed a family tree. And at the center of it: Arjun’s ancestors.

Not just nobles.

Emperors.

The family ruled the last remnant of the old empire — a kingdom of balance between knowledge and strength. And from that family came a daughter — the strongest mage in generations, titled the “Tenth Gate Flame” — a title only one magician every few hundred years could earn.

Arjun’s sister.

Then came the betrayal.

His uncle, driven by greed and promises of dark power, killed almost everyone in one night. The family was massacred. The empire, swallowed whole.

Only three survived: Arjun (barely two months old), his sister, and their mother.

> *“He cannot survive here,” the sister wrote. “He must grow away from this world. Far from these ruins. So that when he returns… he returns untouched.”

---

? 3. The Mistake

She had prepared a portal — a spell so powerful it broke every known rule of magic. It was meant to send Arjun and his mother to a peaceful world — at the same time.

But magic that powerful is imprecise.

The rift split across time.

Arjun landed 1023 years in the future.

His mother… never made it.

She died in the transfer. The sister only learned this after the mountain itself, bound to her magic, showed her the echoes.

So, with time already fractured, she did the only thing she could.

She built.

She carved spells into the mountain to make it unreachable for all except their bloodline.

She raised magical beasts to defend it, shaping them to be tests, not killers.

She built a hut.

She created a fire that would never truly die.

She prepared the mountain, inch by inch, so that if Arjun ever returned, he would be trained.

And then… she died.

At the age of 99, the last survivor of a fallen empire, alone but with purpose fulfilled.

But before that, she wrote everything she knew — into this book.

? 4. The Rules of Magic and the Mountain

As the others listened, Anya flipped page after page, reading aloud — her voice stronger now, more certain.

Rules of Magic:

Magic exists in three forms: Understanding, Intention, and Emotion.

Only when all three align can a spell take form.

Magic isn't cast — it's spoken, felt, and believed.

The more practical the mind, the harder it is to use. Magic is fluid, not logic.

Rules of the Mountain:

No one may enter or leave unless of the bloodline or invited through a trial.

The mountain shifts for outsiders, looping time and space.

The hut is the heart — everything begins and ends there.

Once the challenges are accepted, the mountain awakens.

> “This place isn’t just hiding him,” Anya said softly. “It’s watching him.”

---

? 5. The Seven Trials

And then — near the end of what seemed like the "First Volume" — they found it:

> “To awaken the ancient blood and restore what was lost, seven challenges must be overcome. Each one tied not to strength or knowledge — but to the threads of the soul.”

A page unfolded — revealing seven emblems, each glowing softly in different colors.

Trial of Clarity.
Trial of Compassion.
Trial of Endurance.
Trial of Logic.
Trial of Courage.
Trial of Will.
Trial of Flame.

And beside each symbol… a name flickered briefly — as if responding to the people nearby.

Each of the friends saw the symbol shift toward them when they looked at it.

The flame shifted toward Arjun.

The logic symbol pulsed near Anya.

The endurance symbol toward Suraj.

Compassion lit up for Riya.

And so on.

> “They’re not just here for you,” Anya whispered.
“They’re part of it now.”
