Chapter 999: The Final Duel
Chapter 999: The Final Duel
After resolving these troubles, Fenrir and his companions used Lumos to restore light to the dark Control Room.
"Are you okay, Cis?" Walker, noticing his injured colleague, hurried over to check on him.
"Still alive... for now", Cis said weakly, pressing his blood-soaked chest and trying to stand, but nearly falling back down.
If not for Protego partially shielding him, he would probably be dead by now.
"Don't move around, help is on the way. Let me tend to your wounds", Walker said, frowning as he helped Cis sit in a corner and used his rudimentary Healing Magic to stop the bleeding.
Fenrir glanced over, and upon seeing that Cis was not in immediate danger, crouched down and tore a peculiar Triangular Pendant from Alison's neck. Inside the pendant was a Circle with a Vertical Line in the center. Fenrir, who frequently dealt with Death Eaters, recognized this as Grindelwald's symbol, often carried by many Death Eaters.
However, this particular pendant looked especially different, with a blue Magic Lumos flowing over its surface and exuding a sinister aura...
Fenrir dared not look at it for long and immediately threw it to the ground, then waved his wand to summon Fiendfyre to burn it.
Ivan had warned him about the terror of Horcruxes, which could influence the carrier's emotions. Those with weak wills might even be controlled by a Horcrux.
As the flames approached, the pendant, sensing the threat, began to tremble violently. Moments later, a piercing scream echoed through the Control Room. The sound, as if imbued with magic, caused excruciating headaches. Fenrir, Walker, and the others clutched their ears, powerless to stop the sound from piercing their minds. Cis, in particular, spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed into unconsciousness.
Fortunately, the terrifying Fiendfyre quickly engulfed the pendant, and the piercing scream abruptly ceased after a few seconds. Fenrir took a while to recover, then cast a spell to extinguish the Fiendfyre. The pendant had vanished completely.
The Horcrux was destroyed...
...
One minute earlier, in the Department of Mysteries, Ivan, having received Fenrir's message, felt a surge of joy. His attacks grew more ferocious, and several spells flew towards Grindelwald.
"Achilles Shield!" Grindelwald waved his wand vigorously, and a brilliant Magic Shield materialized from the air. With all his might, the shield solidified into a tangible form, as if from a myth.
The thin beams of spell light struck the shield, producing a series of ear-piercing thuds. The surface of the Achilles Shield developed some cracks, but they instantly repaired themselves with Reparo.
"Thunder!" Ivan pointed his wand, and blue lightning surged from the tip, skillfully bypassing the sturdy Achilles Shield and striking the sides.
Grindelwald, of course, did not fall for it. He waved the Elder Wand, easily deflecting the dense lightning.
As the battle reached a stalemate, Grindelwald's expression suddenly changed, and his body shook. The Magic Shield in front of him shattered with a loud bang.
"Sectumsempra~ (Sectumsempra)" Ivan had been waiting for this moment. An invisible Blade of Magic shot from the tip of his wand, slicing towards Grindelwald at an indescribable speed.
A sudden sense of danger surged through Grindelwald’s mind. He forced down the piercing pain and barely managed to dodge by shifting his body.
However, Ivan’s meticulously planned attack was not about to end there. In the blink of an eye, a white shadow leaped from the ground, hooves raised to trample Grindelwald—this was none other than the Unicorn Shadow, which had vanished after sending Fenrir and the others away.
Though it was a repeated tactic, Ivan’s timing was impeccable. Grindelwald, suffering from a splitting headache, could only cast a non-verbal spell to shield himself. The hooves struck him with full force.
The Magic Barrier around him shattered first, followed by the Invisibility Cloak he wore, which glowed with Lumos and provided another layer of protection. By the time the force reached Grindelwald, it had been reduced to less than a third, but he had no intention of resisting and was sent flying.
Even after multiple layers of defense, the full power of the Unicorn Shadow’s attack was not to be underestimated. The immense force compressed Grindelwald’s chest, causing it to cave in slightly. Blood gushed from his mouth, splattering onto the Unicorn Shadow, turning the white shadow blood-red.
Grindelwald crashed onto the hard tiles, barely having time to catch his breath before the warning in his heart resurfaced.
Ivan, capitalizing on his advantage, summoned another bolt of lightning at the tip of his wand. Grindelwald’s pupils constricted, and he swiftly waved the Elder Wand. The black and white tiles in front of him rose to form a thick wall, blocking the attack.
The violent lightning struck the wall and exploded on impact!
In the next moment, a high-pitched neigh echoed through the Control Room as the illusory Unicorn Shadow broke through the tile barrier and charged towards him.
"Flagrate~ (Flagrate)" Grindelwald’s eyes fixed on the Unicorn Shadow as he rapidly cast the spell. The blood on the Unicorn Shadow’s surface began to move, forming a rope that bound the Phantom Beast.
This brief delay was enough for the brick wall blocking Ivan to crumble.
"Surrender, Grindelwald. You have no chance of winning now..." Ivan advanced step by step, his words designed to unsettle Grindelwald. Upon realizing that his opponent had only sustained minor injuries, Ivan’s brow furrowed.
The destruction of the Horcrux seemed to have had less of an impact on Grindelwald than he had anticipated. Otherwise, Grindelwald would never have withstood his meticulously planned ambush.
Was it due to the number of Horcruxes?
Ivan speculated that Grindelwald had not divided his soul into too many fragments, making his spirit less vulnerable and capable of withstanding the destruction of a single Horcrux.
Grindelwald rose from the ground, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. His gaze was sharp, like that of an injured tiger, his aura undiminished and even more formidable.
"Before a battle concludes, no one can predict its outcome... Do you think I chose this battlefield for nothing?" Grindelwald spoke slowly, pointing the Elder Wand at the ground. Complex patterns appeared on each tile, spreading in all directions.
"The time is almost right..."
