Chapter 996: Your Ambition Ends Here!
Chapter 996: Your Ambition Ends Here!
Ivan quickly adjusted his emotions after a few moments and turned to Grindelwald, his voice solemn. "Today, we will settle this, Grindelwald... Your ambition ends here..."
"Is that so? Well, I also think it's time to put an end to all this." Grindelwald said coldly, his Elder Wand flicking lightly. Several spell beams shot out, aimed at Fenrir, Walker, and the others.
He had deliberately kept these people alive to lure Ivan Hals here. Now that his goal was achieved, they were no longer necessary.
Ivan, of course, wouldn't let Grindelwald succeed. He immediately used magic to push a large cabinet in front of the group to shield them.
The spell beams struck the wardrobe, causing a series of explosions.
Fenrir, Walker, and the lone surviving male Auror stood in a triangular formation, wands raised, ready to counterattack. However, before they could act, Ivan stopped them.
"Take them and leave, Fenrir... You won't stand a chance in this fight." Ivan said seriously. "Also, don't forget the quest I assigned you. Your goal is to complete it!"
While Fenrir and the others might be formidable in the eyes of ordinary wizards, they were far from a match for Grindelwald. Interfering in the battle would only be a liability. It would be better to use their strength for more important tasks.
With that, Ivan reached into his robes and pulled out a vial, tossing it to Fenrir. "Take this!"
Fenrir caught the vial with both hands, examining the transparent liquid inside, which was half-filled with a golden substance.
"This is Felix Felicis. It will enhance your luck for twelve hours. You might be able to find Alison's location with it... The Horcrux is around her neck", Ivan's voice echoed in Fenrir's mind. Fenrir didn't ask any questions, opened the potion, and drank it in one gulp, then led the remaining two in a mad dash away.
The destructive power of these two titans was evident within the North American Capitol. They didn't want to be caught in the crossfire.
Watching Fenrir and the others flee, Ivan soon turned his gaze back to Grindelwald, slightly surprised that he hadn't taken the opportunity to attack.
"You think they can escape?!" Grindelwald's lips curled into a mocking smile. He clapped his hands lightly, and the platform began to tremble violently.
The black and white tiles beneath Fenrir and the others crumbled instantly, and a massive, several-meter-wide, bottomless chasm appeared on the platform. Fenrir and the others had no chance to resist and fell straight into the abyss.
Grindelwald's smile grew wider as he watched this. He looked at Ivan, expecting to see a face filled with frustration and anger, but Ivan's reaction was unexpected. His face was eerily calm.
"If the Aurors fighting desperately at the Ministry of Magic knew that their International Confederation of Wizards President was indifferent to their sacrifices, they would surely be disappointed", Grindelwald sneered.
"Every colleague who falls here, I will remember their appearance and deeds." Ivan said indifferently. "However, I have no intention of letting my subordinates die in front of me..."
"Do you really think I came to see you without any preparation?" Ivan said with a cold smile.
Before entering the Department of Mysteries, Fenrir had already used the Magic Mark to inform Ivan of everything that had happened here. Ivan was well aware that the entire Department of Mysteries was under Grindelwald's control, and he had let Fenrir leave only because he was confident in his plans.
Ivan's calm demeanor made Grindelwald's smile freeze, and he felt a hint of unease. He raised his left hand and pointed at the several-meter-wide crack, then clenched his fingers tightly. The crack, resembling an abyss, quickly closed.
He intended to crush those Aurors under the earth!
At that moment, a high-pitched neigh echoed through the air.
Just before the ground fully closed, a white phantom shot out from the depths like lightning—it was a massive Unicorn, several meters tall, its body composed of dense White Mist. It burst forth from the ground and, without looking back, galloped away into the distance.
Fenrir and Walker, who had fallen into the ground earlier, were now safely seated on the giant Unicorn's back, while the unfortunate warlock was firmly clamped in its mouth.
Grindelwald's face darkened. The Department of Mysteries was his stronghold, yet the people he wanted to kill had been easily rescued. This made him furious.
Looking at Ivan's somewhat youthful face, Grindelwald's heart sank.
Since his escape from Nurmengard, this young warlock had become a thorn in his side, one that continued to grow. Every time they met, Ivan's strength had significantly increased. Over a month ago, at the North American Magical Congress, Ivan had used a hidden trap on the Key to deal him a severe blow. Grindelwald had a premonition that if he didn't kill Ivan in this battle, he might never have another chance.
So this battle, he had to win!
Grindelwald said nothing, raising his hand to cast the Cruciatus Curse.
"Reducto"
Ivan conjured an invisible shield to block it. Before he could counter, he suddenly shrank, the solid brick ground beneath him transforming into a Muddy Swamp. Grim Hands emerged from the mud, tightly gripping his ankles and thighs.
The massive Wardrobes on either side, as if pulled by some unseen force, began to crash toward him.
Ivan remained expressionless, as if he hadn't noticed the danger, but his counterattack had already begun. Sinister white Fiendfyre erupted from his body, burning into the mud through the strange arms that held him.
A bizarre wailing sounded in his ears as the strange arms in the mud disintegrated into black mist.
At the same time, the robe he wore transformed, extending into a pair of black Bat Wings. He flapped them vigorously, propelling himself high into the air just before the Wardrobes could reach him.
The ground was Grindelwald's domain, and Ivan still vividly remembered the plight of Fenrir and the others. He wasn't foolish enough to stand his ground and fight head-on.
