Jou took a deep breath and stood up.
All the Phantoms vanished, and the entire Field returned to its original state. Dark, silent, and empty, with no way to determine direction.
Jou looked up and saw You Bei floating beside him, her expression complicated.
"Jou."
She hesitated for a moment, then closed her eyes and spoke softly.
"It seems you've gone through more than I thought over the years."
"Experience is what makes us stronger."
Jou stood up and gently touched his Deck on his Duel Disk. It was as if, through the residual power in the Deck, he could still feel the will of those who had left him.
Jou looked up and said firmly, "For the sake of those irreplaceable friends who are no longer with us, I must keep moving forward."
You Bei smiled with relief. "With such determination, you're already an excellent Duelist, Jou."
Just then, the surrounding darkness began to ripple. The darkness converged in mid-air, forming an enormous shadow. The vague outline revealed sharp claws, a long tail, and eyes that glowed with a wicked red light.
"Yeshen."
Jou looked up at the massive shadow and said, "Let's skip the theatrics. I'm not afraid of you, and I won't be swayed by a few words in my head. I have only one purpose here, and we both know how this should end."
Jou shook his Duel Disk.
"With a Duelist's way."
The shadow emitted a series of indistinct sounds, like a heavy, angry breath.
Then the darkness below the shadow gathered, forming a black humanoid figure. It had no clear features, but it had eyes, and through those eyes, one could see a look of irritation.
"I see, you are indeed a troublesome kid. There are still a few challenging characters in this world."
He paused for a moment, then a Duel Disk appeared in his hand.
"Fine, I'll grant your wish. But let me make one thing clear: now that you've dared to enter my main Field, neither you nor that lucky escapee will be leaving."
Before Jou could respond, You Bei sneered.
"You're the one who doesn't understand what you're facing." You Bei said coolly, "Let's give this overconfident Yeshen a taste of your new hero power, Jou."
"Alright!"
Jou activated his Duel Disk.
"Duel!" (x2)

"I'll start, Draw."
This was their second battle, but this time, You Bei had returned to Jou's side. Yeshen went first.
Yeshen said, "I activate the Magic Card 'Take Over 5' and send the top five cards from my Deck to the Graveyard."
Yeshen drew five cards from the top of his Deck and placed them on his Duel Disk, which rolled them one by one into the Graveyard.
"I set a monster card face-down on the Field", Yeshen said. "Then I set another card face-down. My Turn ends."
Jou: "My Turn, Draw!"
You Bei: "Show him the power of your new heroes, Jou."
"Got it."
Jou played a card.
"Normal Summon 'Elemental Hero Solid'!"
A hero clad in white armor, with silver armor reflecting a cold light, landed heavily on the Field. The hero's arms, like shields, crossed in front of him, forming a solid wall.

"Solid's effect: When successfully summoned, Special Summon one Level 4 or lower 'Hero' monster from your hand."
Jou revealed another monster card in his hand.
"Special Summon 'Elemental Hero Sky'!"
This Elemental Hero was already part of Xiang Hong Ye's Deck, but back then, its effect was merely "halving Attack Power to directly Attack", a far cry from the version familiar to real-life duelists.
However, now that Jou has reached the maximum level, the power of the Elemental Heroes has been fully unleashed, and his Sky has evolved into its strongest form.
A transparent vortex swirled up, coalescing into a solid form clad in sturdy armor. Two turbines spun at full speed, generating a gust that lifted him into the air. With his arms crossed and a commanding presence, he radiated an air of confident authority.

Jou said, "Effect of 'Elemental Hero Sky'! When this card is summoned or Special Summoned, I can add any 'Hero' monster from my Deck to my hand!
I will retrieve—"
His Duel Disk automatically searched, and a card sprang out as if guided by an unseen spirit, landing in Jou's hand.
"I add 'Elemental Hero Liquid' to my hand!"
Yeshen sneered, "Just a bunch of low-level heroes, endlessly annoying."
Ignoring the taunt, Jou continued, "Now, I activate the Magic Card 'Synchro'!
On the Field, 'Elemental Hero Solid' and the 'Elemental Hero Liquid' just retrieved from my hand will Synchro!"
A deep blue stream erupted on the Field, materializing into the form of a hero. The water transformed into a gem-like, transparent armor that enveloped the hero's body.
Both Elemental Hero Liquid and Elemental Hero Solid were drawn into the Synchro Vortex, vanishing within. A massive burst of energy followed, a cold whirlwind that seemed to freeze everything within a ten-mile radius, even the surrounding darkness turning icy.
Snowflakes fell from the sky as a white-cloaked hero descended, arms crossed, riding a transparent vortex.
Elemental Hero Absolute Zero, summon!

Yeshen remarked, "At least that's a decent monster."
But then he laughed coldly and added, "Still, it's nothing more than a snack for a god."
Jou ignored the insult and said, "Effect of 'Elemental Hero Liquid.' When this card is sent to the Graveyard as a Synchro Material for a 'Hero' monster, I can draw two cards from my Deck and then discard one card from my hand."
Jou drew two cards and then sent one to the Graveyard.
"Then, another effect of 'Elemental Hero Solid.' When this card is sent to the Graveyard by the effect of a Magic Card, I can Special Summon one 'Hero' monster from my Graveyard in Defense Position."
Jou drew another card from his Deck.
"I Special Summon 'Elemental Hero Liquid' in Defense Position!"

"Liquid is a Water attribute monster", Jou explained, "and another effect of 'Elemental Hero Absolute Zero.' This card's Attack Power increases by 500 points for each Water attribute monster on the Field, including itself!"

"Battle!"
Jou declared.
"Elemental Hero Sky, attack the face-down monster!"
