Chapter 995: Another Meeting
Chapter 995: Another Meeting
"I have already informed President Hals about everything that has happened here. We haven't received any response yet, so he’s probably dealing with the troubles of other teams..." Fenrir briefly explained.
Given that they have been attacked, it’s likely that the other teams have faced similar situations. The enemy has trapped them within the Department of Mysteries and made great efforts to separate them, clearly planning to pick them off one by one.
They haven’t seen any enemy Wizards yet, and Fenrir has reason to believe that the Maddagos, capable of splitting, are merely being used to hinder their movements.
While these monsters are extremely troublesome, it’s unrealistic to think they can wipe out over a dozen elite Aurors. Therefore, the enemy’s true intention is probably to delay their actions and then lead their main force to attack the other teams.
With this in mind, Fenrir felt a growing sense of urgency. He made a gesture for everyone to stay alert and led Walker and the others through the passage burned by Fiendfyre.
They hadn’t gone far when Fenrir was forced to stop. A sense of danger welled up inside him, and he noticed that the debris from the magical cabinets was slowly floating around them.
"Be careful!" Fenrir shouted, waving his wand to cast a Shield Charm in front of him.
The Aurors, alerted by Fenrir, quickly reacted, forming a defensive circle back-to-back.
The attack was more intense than they had anticipated. The flying debris whizzed through the air with a piercing sound, instantly shattering several layers of magical barriers. Fenrir managed to dodge by rolling several times, but the others weren’t as fortunate.
Walker and a few others were lightly injured, while the four Aurors at the rear were hit and fell to the ground, their bodies riddled with deep blood holes, clearly beyond saving...
"Damn it!" Fenrir glanced at the fallen Aurors, feeling a mix of fear and anger. While he wasn’t particularly close to these deceased colleagues, having only known them for about a month, they had fought together in several battles and had developed some camaraderie...
Despite his anger, the attacker’s strength also filled Fenrir with dread. The protective spells cast by so many of them were easily broken by a single magical attack. In his memory, only two Wizards in the entire Wizarding World possessed such power.
Fenrir tightened his grip on his wand, his expression tense as he looked forward. A faint sound of footsteps gradually grew louder.
Moments later, a figure appeared before them—it was none other than Gellert Grindelwald!
"Avada Kedavra!" At the sight of him, Fenrir’s pupils constricted, and he launched an attack without hesitation, casting the Killing Curse.
A sickly green beam flashed through the air. Sensing the threat, Walker and the others also cast spells, and in an instant, over a dozen spells were launched, all aimed at Grindelwald.
Facing this barrage, Grindelwald didn’t even bother to draw his wand from his sleeve. He casually raised his hand, and the debris on the ground rose to intercept each spell with pinpoint accuracy. Then, he extended his index finger toward one of the Aurors, and a blinding white light shot out at an unimaginable speed, shattering the Auror’s Protego in a single strike.
Auror's body quickly stiffened, transforming into a stone statue, his face still frozen in a look of terror.
Seeing Auror's dire fate, a chill crept into the hearts of Fenrir and the others. Walker crouched low, immediately shifting into his werewolf form, preparing to fight to the death.
A disdainful sneer appeared on Grindelwald's face. He effortlessly dodged a Killing Curse by tilting his head slightly, then casually waved his right hand. The nearby magic cabinet flew up and slammed into the werewolf-transformed Walker, sending him flying.
"Reducto!" "Confringo!"
Fenrir and the others didn't stand idle. They fought while retreating, casting spells at Grindelwald and managing to rescue Walker.
Grindelwald seemed in no hurry to kill them, merely deflecting Fenrir's and the others' attacks with ease. He launched a counterattack every few seconds, and each time, one of them would die at his hands.
The Aurors present were drenched in cold sweat, powerless to do anything but watch as their comrades fell one by one. Each time Grindelwald struck, it was as if Death itself was calling out, taking another life.
In just over a minute, only Fenrir, Walker, and a nearly broken warlock remained.
Seemingly growing impatient, Grindelwald raised his hand again, this time pointing at the leading Fenrir.
"Avada Kedavra!"
The dark green spell beam reached Fenrir almost instantly. The moment Grindelwald raised his hand, Fenrir started to dodge, but he was just a fraction too slow. He could only watch helplessly as Death approached.
Just as Fenrir was sinking into despair, a force from an unknown source yanked him, causing his body to shift a few centimeters in the air. The dark green beam passed by him.
Grindelwald's brow furrowed, then he seemed to sense something. He looked up to see a golden bird, engulfed in pale white flames, charging directly at him.
This time, Grindelwald didn't underestimate the threat. He quickly pulled out the Elder Wand from his sleeve and cast a semi-circular magic barrier in front of him.
The Phoenix crashed into the sturdy magic barrier, causing a violent explosion. The rising flames engulfed everything around.
When the smoke and flames cleared, Ivan appeared before the group, his eyes fixed on Grindelwald in the inferno.
"President Hals?!" Fenrir and the others shouted, their eyes wide with relief and gratitude. The tension in their hearts finally eased.
"I'm sorry, I seem to have arrived a bit late... The other teams also encountered some difficulties, which delayed me", Ivan said, scanning the bodies on the ground and sighing.
"You did well, and so did they..."
Ivan had anticipated that the France Ministry of Magic, being Grindelwald's stronghold, would have multiple layers of defense. As the attackers, without much intelligence or a mole, they would suffer significant casualties. However, seeing the ground littered with bodies still left him somewhat unsettled...
