Chapter 993: Overwhelming by Might
Chapter 993: Overwhelming by Might
Inside a limestone cave on an island in the New World, Joe Rudolph noticed the Transponder Snail had gone silent and sighed. He turned to Dagon beside him. "Prepare yourself. We're moving out."
After selecting their operational base, Joe Rudolph had settled his clan members in New World before coming here personally. The Golden Lion had ordered them to suppress pirates in this realm, a duty they were bound to fulfill.
This cave had been preserved specifically for their mission, and now they returned here with willing clan members ready for combat.
Yet Ophi's name was no stranger to him—a pirate of deadly reputation. But as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, orders from above left no room for hesitation.
"Isn't this too dangerous?" Dagon asked with concern. "We're Seven Warlords of the Sea, not Golden Lion's subordinates. If this isn't within our conscription terms, shouldn't we refuse?"
Joe Rudolph shook his head. "We could refuse, but that man doesn't care for rules. The Seven Warlords of the Sea's contract never specified our obligations—only our profit shares. That's precisely what makes him terrifying. If we use regulations to defy Golden Lion, he'll replace us without hesitation. He's capable of that."
"You don't know him either, but I do. Defying him makes survival harder. Complying ensures comfort. Golden Lion never betrays those who obey him—that's why I came to New World so quickly. We can act freely within his tolerance, but refusing direct orders? That's asking for trouble. Remember, refusing and failing are two different things. Ophi won't break me so easily!"
He stood abruptly. "Gather our allies. We're going to Xipilian to stop Ophi!"
...
Akusu Island—a temperate land ideal for farming. Previously a pirate crew's base, it had been seized by Kas and his forces after a fierce battle.
But Kas faced a problem: the pirates had ravaged the land so thoroughly that farmland lay barren, leaving civilians starving.
What to do? Reclaim the land, rebuild structures, and find the island's hiding civilians—Kas took it upon himself to complete these tasks.
With the Navy's help, the civilians gradually regained hope. Just as Kas prepared to leave, however, another pirate crew arrived unexpectedly. Naturally, battle was inevitable.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Boom! Boom!
Gunfire and cannonballs erupted near the farmland.
"Protect our achievements!"
A massive white energy shield stood motionless in the fields, absorbing relentless cannon and musket fire from the pirates. The defenders couldn't move—if they counterattacked, they'd abandon the shield's protection, destroying the reclaimed farmland. Behind it lay countless civilian homes, irreplaceable.
Across the battlefield, a muscular bald giant frowned as his crew attacked. But when he heard voices from the white energy, his expression suddenly cleared.
"I see..."
The giant nodded. "They're protecting lives, so they won't attack? My mistake to exploit their mercy. Cease fire!"
"Captain, why stop now? We're winning!" A squad leader protested.
The giant shot him a glare. The subordinate immediately broke into cold sweat.
"Overwhelming might isn't about trickery—it's about honor. This Navy isn't ordinary. That white energy must be Kas, the Colossal Shield. I want to defeat them fairly. Stopping now would make their defeat meaningless!" He slammed his massive stone pillar into the ground. "Cease fire! Regroup! Find open ground for battle!"
The squad leader swallowed hard. "Stop firing! All of you—stop!!"
The tremor from the stone pillar silenced the pirates, who parted to reveal Wang Long at the center.
"Enemy stopped attacking?" Kas frowned inside the shield. What was this? Surrendering?
Nearby, Donald's pupils constricted as he spotted a figure deep within the pirate ranks. "That's..."
"You recognize the Mountain Demon Swordsman?" Kas asked.
As the pirates parted, Kas immediately identified Wang Long.
"Once a legendary wanderer in Flower Country", Donald confirmed. "I used to idolize him. Never thought he'd become a pirate!"
Unlike Kas, Donald rarely checked pirate wanted posters. Lately, he'd obsessed over understanding Justice's Words with Wilbur Vice Admiral and Kas Vice Admiral.
He couldn't grasp why his interpretation differed so drastically from theirs. "If they all agree, my understanding must be wrong..." Yet his mind stubbornly refused to align with theirs, leaving him perpetually confused.
"Hey, Navy!" Wang Long roared. "You're Kas, the Colossal Shield, right? I know you want to protect these fields and civilians, but I demand a fair fight! Let's move to open ground—no hiding behind shields!"
"Definitely Wang Long", Donald nodded. "He always loved challenges like this."
Kas raised his voice. "Then let's fight! Justice won't fall to wickedness! The Navy won't lose to pirates!"
"Hah!" Wang Long grinned, gripping his stone pillar. "I admire your spirit—just don't regret it when you fall!"
The Navy and pirates moved in unison, abandoning the farmland for open terrain.
"Now", Wang Long stepped forward, stone pillar raised, eyes gleaming with bloodlust. "Let me crush this bewildered white mist fairly!!"
Whoosh!
A figure burst from the white energy, cold gleam flashing toward Wang Long.
"Oh?" Wang Long's eyes lit up.
Crash!
The blur's lightning speed met the giant's casual pillar swing, halting midair.
"As expected! Donald!" Wang Long laughed. "When I saw that pistol shot, I thought I'd misjudged you. Joined the Navy, huh?!"
