Chapter 992: Someone Who Let Their Time Expire and Became Invalid
Chapter 992: Someone Who Let Their Time Expire and Became Invalid
"I had no choice! Please spare me! I've been here for seven years! Seven years of constant danger! Once, during an intelligence handoff, Herbert Officer discovered me, but Captain spared me on the condition that I feed false intelligence to the Navy and relay their intelligence back to them."
The pirate with a fur-lined pauldron sobbed bitterly, "It's true! I never wanted this! I dreamed of becoming a Navy officer myself, but staying here was too dangerous! If I didn't abandon my Navy identity, I'd eventually be killed! I don't want to die!"
At this moment, he was the only one left alive in the valley.
All the other pirates had been finished off by Klah and Kaku's Calm Step, their bodies severed in an instant. Only this former undercover agent with the fur-lined pauldron remained.
"None of that matters anymore. You made your choice, and that means paying the price."
Klah stood with one hand in his pocket, adjusting his glasses with the other as he looked down at the kneeling man. "You'll die here—that's inevitable. But your family doesn't have to know. You can still be remembered as a Navy martyr, sparing your family and hometown from shame. However, you must provide intelligence first."
"Is that so?"
The man with the fur-lined pauldron hesitated, then chuckled bitterly. "So I couldn't escape after all. After evading this fate for years, this is how it ends. Can you really keep my family in the dark?"
Klah nodded calmly. "Undercover work is inherently dangerous. Especially after years embedded in a pirate crew, character shifts are natural. But those who become undercover agents once carried justice in their hearts—even more so than many within the Navy itself. For that original intent, we can be lenient. You'll die for your actions, but that has nothing to do with your family or hometown."
"How noble of you. You're right—it was my choice. Thank you, then." The man's expression gradually eased.
Majestic. Noble. No trace of cover-up.
If you overstepped, your fate was declared, but others remained untouched. The Navy's leniency stemmed from the unwavering justice in every undercover agent's original intent. Kuromr. himself had set this precedent.
What Klah said were Kuromr.'s exact words.
No need to act like the World Government or CP, hiding behind shadows and orchestrating assassinations.
They came here to evaluate, to judge.
All evil would vanish in this trial.
"They're fighting over territory", the fur-lined pauldron man revealed. "Dressrosa drove out the local pirate influence. Captain—no, Ophi—wants to seize those unprotected territories. They'll clash with Dressrosa soon. Unless an accident occurs, they've already begun their campaigns across various battlefields. Nacruo's goal was always this Mountain Archipelago—to conquer the mountain tribes. This war is also a test. If Dressrosa's strength proves weak, Ophi might march straight on its capital and raise his flag there."
"Dressrosa is a World Government member state!" the Navy Commander exclaimed.
This revelation didn't shock Klah or Kaku.
World Government? To major pirates, it was utterly irrelevant.
"Going to war with Dressrosa?" Klah frowned. "Is this intelligence confirmed?"
"Of course. I'm about to die—no reason to lie. I want to die with a clean reputation. The five officers each target an island, swiftly conquering them before moving to the next, then assembling at 'Cyprian Kingdom's' capital to meet Ophi. Their first target is Cyprian Kingdom."
He then revealed the locations of the remaining four officers' targets.
Klah knew Cyprian—a kingdom near Dressrosa, a formidable one that had shielded pirates. This explained Dressrosa's slow progress. But now, the kingdom had fallen.
"I understand. Thank you for the intelligence."
Klah raised his index finger, then hesitated before asking the nearby Navy Commander, "Hand me your pistol."
The commander passed his revolver. Klah aimed it at the man. "Ready to pay your price?"
The fur-lined pauldron man knelt, closed his eyes, and said nothing more.
Bang!
A single shot pierced his brow.
As the body collapsed, Klah tossed the pistol back and pulled out a Transponder Snail, dialing a call.
"Listen up! This is Vice Admiral Klah's Navy unit—we're engaged in combat! We're fighting the Unicorn Pirate Crew!"
The snail connected quickly, voices of battle and a distant roar erupting from its shell.
"Klah here. Looks like no reminder's needed. Where are you? We're coming now", Klah said.
The Navy quickly relayed coordinates before the line cut. "Wrap up here—we're moving to the battlefield."
"Hey, I won't do this. My mission was to assist your evaluation of Navy undercover agents, not to fight pirates. That's your job", Kaku interjected.
CP (Cipher Pol) indeed had no interest in pirates unless the World Government intervened. To them, it was all the same.
"Your problem, not mine. I'm heading straight to the battlefield—I won't escort you", Klah replied coldly, dialing another direct line.
The Transponder Snail's image shifted to a sharp-faced man with a middle part and cigar clenched in his teeth.
"Kuromr.."
...
Headquarters.
"Got it", Kuro said, hanging up. He leaned back, exhaling smoke before muttering, "Damn troublesome matters!"
"Sixteen billion? Impressive", Lida munched snacks on the couch. "Kuro, shall we move out?"
"No need. They're all Vice Admirals. If I rush everywhere myself, what's the point of having subordinates?"
Kuro dialed another call. The snail's image morphed into a face with catfish-like whiskers.
"Golden Lion Vice Admiral."
"Joe Rudolph, are you in the New World?"
"Uh, yes."
"Head to Cyprian. Assist the Navy in eliminating 'Unicorn' Ophi and his crew. Can you handle it?" Kuro asked.
A pause, then: "Understood. I'll cooperate."
"Good. That's settled."
Kuro hung up, smirking at Lida. "See? Why bother chasing Warlords of the Sea when I've got men who can act for me?"
