Chapter 992: Assault on the French Ministry of Magic
Chapter 992: Assault on the French Ministry of Magic
Silent Ward, Peacekeeping Guard, Comprehensive Shield, Muggle Evacuation...
Forty wizards were scattered throughout the Palace of Versailles, casting a magical barrier that quickly enveloped the entire palace complex, forming a barrier that isolated the inside from the outside.
This way, no matter how intense the battle inside, no one outside would hear a single sound. All Muggles passing by would instinctively take a detour, avoiding any trouble.
Most importantly, this magical barrier also prevented Apparition. Ivan, having finally cornered these Death Eaters, had no intention of letting any of them escape.
Under the continuous rain, the Aurors who had dispersed the Muggles quickly gathered at the entrance of the Palace of Versailles, leaving a quarter of their number to maintain the magical barrier and protect the Muggles inside.
Ivan walked step by step to the center of the square, facing a large fountain surrounded by many exquisite statues.
This was the entrance to the French Ministry of Magic. The statues around it were all under powerful Confundus Charms, appearing ordinary to Muggles, but a true master of magic could discern their true nature.
Ivan looked down at the reflection in the water, dipping the tip of his wand into the fountain. A mysterious ripple spread quickly, turning the clear water a deep blue. The warning magic attached to the statues was triggered but was quickly suppressed by Fenrir and his team, who were well-prepared.
"Begin the operation!" Ivan said solemnly, retracting his wand.
Fenrir and the others nodded and one by one jumped into the blue water.
Ivan didn't follow immediately. Instead, he took a bottle from his pocket and drank the golden liquid inside.
The taste of Felix Felicis was peculiar, but Ivan didn't dwell on it, focusing instead on the changes in his body. A new status, "good luck", appeared in the System's status bar.
He felt a vague sense of difference, but couldn't pinpoint exactly what had changed.
Ivan's eyes flickered. He took a deep breath, adjusted his state, and then jumped into the water with Fenrir and the other Aurors.
It was like passing through a thin water curtain. Below the water, instead of a dark, muddy bottom, there was a grand and imposing hall.
...
As Fenrir and his team passed through the water curtain into the Ministry of Magic, the Aurors responsible for security sensed the intrusion and rushed over.
The lead Auror, upon seeing hundreds of wizards entering the hall through the water curtain, felt a chill run down his spine but still managed to step forward and shout, "Who are you? Why are you intruding on the Ministry of Magic?"
"I am Fenrir, the Executive Minister of the International Confederation of Wizards. I received a notification last night that Death Eaters had infiltrated the French Ministry of Magic. I am here on orders to conduct a search... please cooperate", Fenrir said with a cold smile, raising his hand to show the search warrant signed by Ivan, while his right hand rested on the wand at his waist.
The lead Auror swallowed hard and stammered, "I'm sorry, but we received no prior notice. The International Confederation of Wizards has no authority to conduct a search of the Ministry of Magic. So... so I need to consult with my superiors before making a decision. Please wait here!"
However, Fenrir and the others completely ignored his commands, drawing their wands to forcefully enter. If Ivan hadn't instructed them to hold back, these Aurors would have already been on the ground.
Fenrir's aggressive stance put immense pressure on the French Aurors present. The lead Wizard, gritting his teeth, swiftly drew his wand and pointed it at Fenrir, shouting loudly.
"Stop them!"
The battle was about to erupt, and both sides, already on high alert, almost simultaneously swung their wands, firing spells at each other.
Since they were unsure which Aurors were innocent and which were Death Eaters in disguise, Fenrir and his team refrained from using the Killing Curse, aiming instead to stun and apprehend their opponents.
The situation was different on the other side. The ruthless Acolytes, disguised as French Aurors, used Unforgivable Curses. However, due to the overwhelming numbers, they were quickly overwhelmed and defeated.
It was nine in the morning, the busiest time at the Ministry of Magic, with many Wizards still in the atrium conducting business.
Seeing hundreds of menacing Wizards storm into the Ministry of Magic and attack the guardian Aurors, some confused Wizards blindly joined the counterattack, while the rest were terrified, huddling in corners with pale faces, their high-pitched screams echoing throughout the hall, drawing more guardian Aurors.
When Ivan landed, he was met with this chaotic scene, but he had no intention of intervening, merely observing coldly.
Fenrir and his team did not disappoint, resolving the conflict in just a couple of minutes and gaining control of the situation. Thanks to their excellent coordination, there were no casualties on their side.
Of course, the lack of casualties only applied to their own people. In the atrium, over a hundred Wizards lay on the ground, most of them subdued or unconscious, while a few unfortunate souls were hit by their comrades' spells and died from friendly fire.
After clearing the atrium, Fenrir and his team wasted no time. They left twenty Wizards to maintain order and then split into several teams according to the plan, quickly searching the entire French Ministry of Magic for a Witch named Alison. Fenrir himself led the remaining team to attack the Department of Mysteries at the lowest level.
Ivan followed the main group at a leisurely pace, not joining the fight. His relaxed demeanor contrasted sharply with the intense battle before him, and he only retaliated when some reckless Wizards tried to curse him.
This was the Rapid Response Teams' first large-scale operation, and Ivan did not intend to get directly involved. Fenrir and his team were capable enough to handle most of the trouble.
He was here to wait for Grindelwald!
Although Ivan had no concrete evidence that Grindelwald was hiding in the French Ministry of Magic, this was not a criminal investigation. Ivan didn't need evidence; a voice in his mind told him that the person he was looking for was in this Ministry of Magic!
So Ivan chose to wait, fully focused and ready to face this threat.
Grindelwald could appear anywhere in the Ministry of Magic at any time, attacking one of the dispersed teams. But Ivan was prepared to provide support.
As soon as he received news of Grindelwald's appearance, he would use blood magic to break through the Anti-Apparition Charm and rush to their aid.
