Chapter 989: Felix Felicis
Chapter 989: Felix Felicis
In the following days, the Wizarding World continued to maintain a rare calm. The Acolytes who had been causing trouble seemed to have vanished, and attacks on Muggles became increasingly rare. Grindelwald had not been seen for a long time.
However, Ivan did not let his guard down. He knew all too well that this was just a surface calm. No one knew what kind of sinister plot Grindelwald was hatching in the shadows.
With this in mind, while he had Fenrir and others prepare for war, Ivan himself did not idle. Instead, he continued to brew an extremely complex potion—Felix Felicis!
From the information he had, this incredibly powerful potion could make the drinker lucky for twelve hours, even enhancing their sixth sense to guide them to make the best decisions.
For example, in the original Time and Space, Harry relied on this inexplicable premonition to fulfill Dumbledore's request, obtaining the secret of Voldemort's Horcrux from Horace Slughorn.
Of course, the reason Felix Felicis, with its powerful effects, was not widely used was clear. Each ingredient required for the potion was extremely valuable, and the brewing process was incredibly difficult, involving many steps. Even the slightest mistake could turn this luck-inducing potion into a deadly poison.
Ivan estimated that in the entire British Wizarding World, only Snape and Slughorn had the ability to brew Felix Felicis.
With his recent Potions skill reaching nearly level eight, Ivan naturally had the capability to brew Felix Felicis.
Fortunately, Dumbledore's memories contained the recipe for Felix Felicis, so Ivan had been preparing to brew this potion that could determine the outcome of a battle from the beginning.
However, when Ivan actually started brewing, he realized just how complicated the process was. This potion took him several months to complete. The only consolation was that he finally succeeded and did not fail.
Looking at the golden liquid in the cauldron, Ivan carefully took a vial and filled it with the potion. He then opened the System Bar to check it.
【Magic Item: Felix Felicis
Quality: High
Description: This is an extraordinary potion. Drinking it will make you extremely lucky for a period of time, but remember not to rely too heavily on its power. An ant can never defeat an elephant with it.
Note: Overuse at your own risk...】
"Rely too heavily on its power, huh?" Ivan murmured to himself, stroking his chin as he read the System's description. It seemed that the power of Felix Felicis was not as terrifying as he had initially thought.
According to the description, its maximum duration was twelve hours, and it could not be used again for several years afterward, or it would turn into a poison or have the opposite effect, making the drinker incredibly unlucky and leading them to make extremely foolish decisions based on their sixth sense.
Ivan had always been wary of potions that could influence luck and judgment.
Compared to fluctuating good fortune and inexplicable prompts, Ivan preferred to maintain his clear-headed state. This was the condition he was most comfortable with.
However, the upcoming assault on the French Ministry of Magic was extremely dangerous. From the moment Grindelwald disguised himself as Aires, he had been in France for a whole year. There was no guarantee that he had not left any hidden traps, which made Ivan feel a growing sense of unease.
Additionally, there was one more important task that would require the power of Felix Felicis: destroying the Horcrux!
While they now knew that the object was in the possession of a witch named Alison, finding her would not be an easy task, let alone destroying it in the chaos of battle.
A bit of luck would certainly help!
Ivan sighed and put the Felix Felicis away, storing it in the lining of his Battle Robe for easy access whenever he needed it.
Knock, knock, knock~
Just as Ivan was considering whether he should ask Fenrir about the progress of their preparations, a soft tapping sound came from the window.
Ivan turned his head and saw a plump Owl standing outside the foggy window, pecking at the glass with its beak.
"Maca?! How did you get here?" Ivan immediately recognized his Owl and waved his wand to open the window, asking in surprise.
Since graduating from Hogwarts, Ivan had kept Maca at home, as the Magic Mark made it convenient for him to communicate without needing an Owl. Living in luxury, Maca had grown quite plump, and it was unexpected to see him fly such a long distance.
Maca, oblivious to Ivan's thoughts, flew around happily for a couple of laps before landing on Ivan's shoulder, holding out the letter tied to his leg.
Ivan untied the letter, opened it, and read a few lines. The name at the bottom was Hermione, and the content was brief, asking him to return as soon as possible.
Worried that the young witch might be in trouble, Ivan didn't waste any time. He put the letter away and used Apparition to return to his London residence.
The Granger family was startled to see Ivan suddenly appear before them, taking a while to recover from the shock.
After some questioning, Ivan learned from the Grangers that no one had been causing them trouble recently. Hermione had spent most of her time in the Alchemy Room since coming home for the holidays, working on something.
Curious, Ivan went upstairs and pushed open the door to the Alchemy Room. The spacious room was cluttered with various alchemical materials and failed Magic Items on the tables.
There, wearing the dazzling Ravenclaw's Diadem, was the young witch he had been thinking about, bustling about in the Alchemy Room.
Hearing the noise at the door, Hermione quickly turned around. Seeing Ivan, she beamed with joy and excitedly pulled him over to a wooden target. "Come and see, Ivan, I finally succeeded!"
"What?" Ivan was initially confused, but then, seeing Hermione's joyful expression, he began to suspect what she might have achieved, though he wasn't entirely sure.
Hermione took a deep breath, picked up a piece of Mithril, held it in her palm, and closed her eyes for about three seconds. Then, with a sudden jerk of her wrist, she threw the Mithril chunk.
Ivan keenly noticed that the surface of the Mithril chunk was inscribed with runes, glowing with a red Magic Lumos. Upon hitting the target, the Mithril chunk exploded violently.
"Amazing!" As the smoke cleared, Ivan looked at the destroyed wooden target and praised her.
He could tell that the young witch had infused her anger into the Mithril chunk, causing it to explode. This demonstrated that Hermione had gained a preliminary mastery of Emotional Magic.
